Governments, once they realize the full breadth & capability of the US surveillance, and the fact that they themselves are vulnerable, and not only their citizen... they will soon decide to take action! And of course the US, having the confrontation with China in mind (and that it cannot weaken its position in such a critical time), will not back down easily.

Net neutrality is the first that could go, but I'm not sure it will be the last.

Do you think that Snowden will prove to be the trigger to the 3rd WW? (but an information/electronic one this time)

Not really that surprising is it? I just assumed it was common knowledge that the NSA had made its way into the UN.

Besides its not just the US doing the spying.
Germany and the UK have their own systems set up, with generous NSA guidance, to monitor electronic communications for hints of terrorist action. While it has not been openly admitted (or revealed as the case may be) Russia also has or will have it's own NSA-style monitoring and i am damn certain that China has it it too.

Most major countries are doing this if they haven't already, it is a security measure that unfortunately has to be put in place because while the net should be neutral many of the people who us it simply are not.

Look at TOR and the wealth of kiddie porn and other nastiness that takes place on it.
Also, let us not forget that while text messaging is all well and good it is essentially just cell phone based email and if there is one thing the net has taught us in recent years it is that even terrorists and residents of the third world have cell phone plans.

Think it is perceived the UN will assemble over Syria issue, this is an attempt at fracturing the international organization, placing mistrust between its members
imo a new international body is needed, and it's about time, the UN is corrupt to the bone.

The members of the UN don't seem to need any reason for mistrust, it seems to be simply human nature that no one trusts anyone for a wide variety of reasons.

It does bring to mind the interesting question of what the NSA would hope to gain by doing this though.

Thus, it is the NSA succeeded in the summer of 2012 to penetrate the internal video conference system of the international community and to crack the encryption. This was for "a dramatic improvement of the data from video teleconferencing and the ability to decrypt this traffic" taken care of, according to a secret NSA document. "The traffic gives us the internal video teleconferencing the UN (yay!)." Within three weeks, the number of decrypted communications had risen from 12 to 458th

In one case, the NSA had also caught the Chinese intelligence in it, also a spy. Then, the NSA intercepted, which had previously listened to the Chinese. The espionage actions are illegal, in valid today agreements with the UN, the United States has pledged not to take covert action

To be honest, i am not sure we will have a confrontation with China. For one they seem to be doing a damn good job of destroying their own country and economy, so i am just assuming that the best course of action is to let China hang itself.

(Did you catch the story about the recent floods in China releasing an unknown number of crocodiles from a farm into the rushing waters? Thought that bit was particularly funny.)

I'm glad these reports are trickling in, but I can't say I'm surprised.

Our fears of big brother are coming to fruition before our very eyes.

The United Nations is as corrupt as the day is long. It's a cesspool.
I'm not surprised that the NSA would spy on them. They should.
I don't mind that in the least.
This is a whole different subject than the NSA spying on Americans.
Night and day difference.

When the only religious chapel at the UN headquarters is run by those who worship Lucifer you know that something is SERIOUSLY wrong with the picture...

The Lucis Trust is the Publishing House which prints and disseminates United Nations material. It is a devastating indictment of the New Age and Pagan nature of the UN. Bailey changed the name to Lucis Trust, because Lucifer Trust revealed the true nature of the New Age Movement too clearly. A quick trip to any New Age bookstore will reveal that many of the hard-core New Age books are published by Lucis Trust.

At one time, the Lucis Trust office in New York was located at 666 United Nations Plaza and is a member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations under a slick program called "World Goodwill". Luci's Trust is sponsored by among others Robert McNamara, former minister of Defense in the USA, president of the World Bank, member of the Rockefeller Foundation, and Thomas Watson (IBM, former ambassador in Moscow).

Lucis Trust - The Spiritual Foundation of the United Nations

This is the leading, putatively respectable Britain-based Satan cult (it worships Lucifer). The Lucis Trust, which runs the only religious chapel at the New York United Nations headquarters, The Temple of Understanding, was originaly founded as the Lucifer Trust, in London, in 1923. The Lucis Trust associated with the UNO is the New York affiliate of the British organization. The name was changed from Lucifer Trust, to Lucis Trust, to make the nature of the organization less conspicuous. rense.com...

The New World Order is a spiritual agenda enthroning Lucifer as the god of this earth. Lucis Trust was set up as Lucifer Publishing by theosophist Alice A. Bailey. Don't be deceived.

This is not new or unexpected. All the way back 40+ years....most of us knew all those countries offices in the UN were bugged. In fact...even the individual countries themselves always had assumed Im sure that they were.

If they don't like it perhaps they should pay for their own existance, with THEIR troops and support.Or better yet leave.

Very first release of cablegate showed how Hillary Clinton illegally ordered spying on UN. No inquire. No charges. Just go and kill the messenger.

If that is your standard then you have no place to cry when NSA comes to install cameras at your house and ATF comes for your guns.

This is the kind of fallout that is not good for national security. While I'm sure most countries all know their people are going to be bugged, wired, tapped, etc when they come for a visit (I'm sure because they all do it themselves too). I can't see how it's a good thing having to admit it...

It was common conjecture. Now it's inconvenient fact.

My first thought reading this OP was, wow I bet that put them to sleep.
. I am no fan of the UN. It is a completely useless organization imho. As others have said, it is no surprise they are a target of the NSA. Perhaps our time would be better spent trying to find a group that have not been targeted by the NSA? After all if you're gonna build an organization whose sole purpose is to spy?????

I'm so angry, you wouldn't believe it, not even I do.
I have never felt so much anger inside me before, I begin to understand what hate must feel like.
If I could tell those responsible 1 sentence it would be this:

No you absolutely can't!

And if you could see my face and hear my voice, you would understand that this is set in stone.

And honestly, behavior like this can easily become the reason why no one heard the last scream of the missing neighbors.

It will only serve to weaken an already weak UN.
