Wow now that's one cool critter!

But are you sure that's a dance you're watching?
Maybe those legs and the colorful thing on its back serve as some kind of sonar system. It almost looks like he's "scanning" his surroundings.

he looks like a lil alien Zulu witch doctor dancing and flailing his harry arms about

Exactly!!

Very cool!! I love seeing creatures that are new to me, wonderful!

Amazing and beautiful, thank you for sharing this little gem. S+F.
I see some of the rest of you hate spiders and while that is true of venomous ones the none dangerous variety's are great little pest controllers, I jump a mile if I don's know it's there but usually can pick them up in the palm of my hand or a glass to put out in the garden after all it never asked to be a spider and all life is sacred so to kill one without reason is illogical.

Yeah, out of all the spiders I have seen jumping spiders are on a different level completely. They almost display a level of awareness unseen in other species of spiders. Very comparable to dragonflies and mantids.

Watching them hunt is amazing. The way they ambush prey is almost flawless.

I totally agree

This time of year they seem to just appear out of nowhere in my window seals. There are times I've watched them stalk fly's and cheer them on when they make a kill!

I would never touch any other spider but I have zero problems with jumping spiders crawling on my hand. One time I put my finger in ones face and he jumped on my nail, looked me in the eyes, and I swear he said "wash my back!"...

That's the best thing I've ever seen.
Only thing better would be the soundtrack of;
"I am the great and powerful OZ !"
But...
What's does it say about a spiders' self esteem
to use human features to mesmerize?

"While approaching the female, the male will vibrate his abdomen while waving raised legs and tail, and dance from side to side."

And you thought Disco was dead.

This dancing is serious business, it means passing on ones genes or not!

"He points his gun to the spider, and says "Dance spider dance!" and so the spider did. He danced, and danced, and danced. He danced until he was dead."

Spiders are very interesting, if only my sisters would understand.

At first it was like "eww its a icky bug, squish it"
Then it was like "wait a minute little fell has the groovy moves, lets not squish it yet"

Cool vids none the less.

I am always amazed by nature I mean who would have thought a spider with a voo doo shamen bald headed doll on it's back

my daughter brought in a completely intact dragonfly the other day.
It was dead of course but what was cool was its wings was up spread in a vee formation it looked as though it died in the middle of flying.

If that thing was crawling up your leg - the last word you would use is stunning.

It's very tiny: "Both sexes reach about 5 mm in body length".

You can fit a bunch of them on your fingernail: Peacock spider
