What do you do when you have a filthy pervert for a Mayor...FRESH from a very very long career in Congress, I might add, who will not resign? What happens when over 80% of the city wants him to resign and he won't? Locks are changed on his office..and he still won't leave.

Why.. You pay him off and make a city already struggling with financial issues, just a little closer to broke. Why not? It's California where deficits into the many billions of dollars at the State level are just a regular thing to be used to.

In exchange for his long awaited exit as Mayor, the city of San Diego will pay Bob Filner's legal fees and his share of damages in a lawsuit according to anonymous sources. An estimate puts that amount around several hundred thousand dollars.

The body count is up to 18, possibly more, women who have alleged Filner groped, licked, squeezed and harassed them. Filner refused to leave office, even as women continued to come forward.
Source

The list for Mayor Perv is up to 18 women now, who he's victimized. When it's 1 or 2 saying something, you can wonder if maybe it's made up or not quite how it sounds. 18....and quite possibly more to come? Well?

The moral of this story, for our Children who are watching it develop? Society doesn't punish perverts and sexual deviants. It rewards and pays them off.

Maybe cutting deals with criminals and perverts has helped bring our society down? I sure think it has. What respect can anyone HAVE for the laws when they are only the best MONEY CAN BUY?

What *IS* the purpose of having written laws when they are followed only when those in power feel like it or find them convenient, even for each other? Oh.. yeah... Of course.. the laws are to bash us little people while the higher people laugh and break some more on a whim.

It's been pretty crazy...lol Even the Democrats wanted to him to resign.
It's amazing SD will pay his legal fee's and lawsuit damages. I guess they just want to be rid of him asap.

No kidding and that's what has shocked me about this. Some stories I read try and make this out to be a Democrat thing...but it's no more a Democrat thing than the idiot about Guam capsizing or Todd Akin's stupidity being a representative sample for all Republicans.

He's just a dirty old man and you know? He *JUST* took that position as Mayor out of the last election. He served 20 years in Congress ...So how many women and pages did he fondle, molest and otherwise abuse while in Washington? We aren't even hearing that, are we? Nothing meaningful anyway. Perhaps because Congress will circle non-partisan wagons when perverts are being hunted.

Congress contains too many of them of both sides to even play with letting that run too far, eh?

First I will provide the LA Times as a second source, since that is what Briebart cited/based it's story on.

www.latimes.com...

Second I agree with Gloria Allred, the attorney representing the accusers..

In a news conference Thursday, Allred said that although she does not know the details of the mediation deal, it would be "morally repugnant" for the city to "make a gift of public funds" to Filner so that he can, in effect, continue to fight against the lawsuit

If true...whoever signs the check needs to be the next to go.

Thanks Indigo... I saw the BB source as a problem at the last moment but hoped folks might have heard a bit about this to know it's headlines across all major media to some degree. Maybe not 'above the fold' headlines but it's in there somewhere.

Democracy is still the best system on the planet...but there is something to be said for 3rd world countries where when the people want a local official out, he doesn't sit there smugly demanding payola, but rather a crowd of locals with AK-47's shows up at his office and drags him out into the street.

If any of us working out here in the real world pulled off just one of these incidents --- let alone 18+ --- we'd be kicked to the curb so fast it would make your head spin. Why is it that every time the L33TS pull this kind of crap they get a payday and a golden parachute. And why is nothing doe to stop it?

The arguments his lawyers will make/have made will be the same as they always are...

If not for him being a public figure, he would not be the subject of these lawsuits, thus it is employment related and the employer should finance the defense.

Where-upon if there is anyone will a brain sitting across the table, they respond ...If not for your client fondeling any stranger that crossed his path that vaguely resembled a woman, there would not be a lawsuit.

His lawyer then says "we are prepared to file suit for work related claims, namely the lawsuits resulting from his public role..."

Then the City of SD attorneys should say...bring it! If they have any balls.

Filners slimy attorneys then point out that thier client is happy to remain in office until his term expires or the results of a VERY LONG and VERY EXPENSIVE recall election tell him he has to go.

Then they run the numbers...what is cheaper to get rid of this guy? Pay him off and he leaves now? Or spend millions on a recall election and wait months.

Lord help me...this guy's got issues

His accusers included three business executives, two college officials, two military veterans, a Navy admiral, two singers, three city employees and a nurse.

Jackson said she took a $50,000 pay cut to join Filner's staff because she believed in his political agenda. Instead, she said, she found that Filner was verbally abusive to her and others and that he once told her she would do better work if she would not wear panties.

I can see legal expenses being covered for behavior during a person's term of office IF that behavior had ANYTHING to do with their duties within that office. Say..the Mayor made an official decision which resulted in some horrible outcome. I can see defense for that...

However, the fact he sought out public office so he could find more victims (that argument works as well as what his defense people bring up) shouldn't give the criminal a free pass on legal costs because he happened to be successful in trawling 18 or more times.

It's like saying a rapist could claim the same because ..gee..he raped while in office and ONLY those he worked around. Well, this turkey isn't far from it from what I've read in details (and some new definitions of Rape have him one lucky man to be in California, I think). He should get nothing but an arraignment on sexual assault charges and a trial date ...as an EX-Mayor.

Oh...I agree...but bottom line in dollars...The lawsuits will take a long time to make thier way through the courts...and the Mayor is still in office. If you were the SD Finance chair...and your choices were for him to remain in office for 6 more months and maybe longer, recieving full pay and doing nothing and in the meanwhile the city has to spend a few million on a recall election....VS. Writing him a check for a couple hundred thousand to resign?

You can do the right thing morally or fiscally, not both. Tough spot.

I believe the fact people see that as a tough choice when money and values or principle, like enforcing the law, conflict are why it's become an epidemic across society from the school lunch room to the White House.

Everyone knows they can push a bit, and if they make it more expensive to do the right thing than pay off? They'll not only get away with it but literally be paid for doing whatever wrong it was. A Mayor is a pretty low level on the pecking order to be above the law, even as a former member of Congress. It's getting worse on this. They describe physical contact and what any mere mortal would be charged with sexual assault for. Forced kissing alone qualifies to my thinking.

Well.. Confirmed I suppose... He's been bought. However... his problems are far from over. The San Diego City Council can't help him on this one...

CALIFORNIA AG INVESTIGATES SAN DIEGO MAYOR

I also came across this for folks... It shows what kind of swell fella Mayor Perv was. I mean, he got right to business.

Key dates in the sexual harassment scandal of San Diego Mayor Bob Filner:

Nov. 6, 2012: Filner, a 10-term congressman, is elected mayor. He is the first Democrat in 20 years to lead the nation's eighth-largest city.

Dec. 3, 2012: Filner takes office.

June 20, 2013: Filner communications director Irene McCormack Jackson confronts Filner at staff meeting about unwanted sexual advances. Allen Jones, Filner's deputy chief of staff, quits.
Source

It covers a good bit more than that of course so anyone curious is encouraged to go check it out. Hopefully the California A.G. will do what the City wasn't willing or couldn't find the strength to do.
