Islam, Judaism and Christianity are all basically the same religion at the root.

You know - If Jesus was the son of god (which I believe) then couldn't god have also sent another messenger 800 years later too? Islam and Christians could both be right - isn't it??

At any rate - it is just true that historically these three religions DO come from the same root based in the old testament.

Good arguments made on both sides in this post.

That's your error .... Christianity doesn't believe Jesus is a prophet ... It believes that He is God Incarnate. That's a huge fundamental difference between Christianity and the other faiths. God incarnate. That's HUGE.

"Believes" is the keyword here. Christians can believe all they want that Jesus is the messiah, but, at the end of the day that's all it is: a belief. And a belief is not to know, belief is just some faith.

Historically, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad are the three Prophets of the denominations of Abraham's monotheism. What each called themselves is irrelevant when discussing the historic and archaeological origins of each.

Siddhartha Gautama believed himself to be the Buddha, but, that doesn't change the fact that Buddhism is born out of Hinduism.

Jesus believed himself to be God incarnate, but that doesn't change the fact that Christianity was born out of Judaism, or that Islam was born out of both collectively.

If Islam is not born out of Judaism and Christianity, whence cometh the angel Gabriel to Muhammad?

Obviously you never truly believed in anything. If you truly believe in something you know and there would be no doubt. So telling people they are wrong in there beliefs is wrong. Every man must find his own truths and his own beliefs. It is not your place nor mine to tell them they are wrong. As humans the only thing that sets us apart is our ability to have faith and believe. Our beliefs in things like god and love and virtue are sometimes all we have left i encourage everyone to look into there hearts and find what you truly believe and cherish it its all we have.

As-salamu alaykum

May peace be upon you.

JoeP, much more to it than that. Christ came to show a Path towards Enlightenment/Union with God through activated Grace. To change the dead ways of Judaism, to the Enlightening ways of his Path. Judaism does not produce ENlightened Saints. It's a dead religion that tries to follow 800-some-odd rules of kosher living and not making the creator too mad by continuing to offer animal blood sacrifices(something that still goes on in Israel)

Islam is also mostly dead when it comes to Enlightenment/Ego death/Union, except for Sufism, which actively works on surrendering the Ego and entering into the Heart where Union can be found. However, many Muslim sects hate and don't include Sufism as officially Muslim.

In Christianity, particularly Eastern Orthodoxy Monasticism, (they hold the cleanest title to the purest form and lineage to Christ and the 12 disciples), their Monasteries are basically Enlightenment schools where many Monks eventually reach Enlightenment/Union with God. OF course nor all monks, but many do.

Christinaity still provides and experiential way towards Enlightenment.
Judaism dead
Islam only has a very tiny branch called Sufism, where some may also reach Enlightenment through that path

Pretty big differences if you ask me. You're only touching on Exoteric aspects

much more to it than that. enlightenment has no specified path. however some paths are nearer. since they are the straight path.
but humanity has not been created to be a monk. true enlightenment is within society.

Just minor differences - all believe in the old testament, all think Jesus was at least a prophet (at least Islam does) and all come from the same area of the world.
The only real difference is that they have different slants - Christianity thinks Jesus was the son of god and not just a prophet, and they have a new testament - the Muslims think he was a great prophet and in the 8th century found a new prophet to follow and the Jews think that the messiah has not come yet and hold onto just the old testament.
Really, that’s it - they all have the same root belief in the old testament.
Joe

the most common point that humanity has, monotheistic religions, even Hindus and Buddhists and aheists, it is that world needs a Messiah. or Messiahs. and divinely Messiah or Messiahs will come some day. as it is written in Psalms :

And certainly We wrote in the Book(Psalms) after the reminder(Bible) that (as for) the land, My righteous servants shall inherit it.
Most surely in this is a message to a people who serve
And We have not sent you(the prophet of Islam) but as a mercy to the worlds.
Say: It is only revealed to me that your God is one God; will you then submit? -Koran 21.105

For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land. -Psalms 37
