Lets say the SHTF in the worst way ever. Everything but zombies. So you're in the city. And by a miracle you're able to get out of the madness.

You're wondering in the farm fields hopelessly lost. But you feel safer by far that what you experienced in the city. Now that you're in the farm fields you went up to a few farms and acerages but you were met with the most violent response. You're scared to try again as you feel you might get shot if you approach a farm house again.

So now you're really starving. You're at the point where you feel you might not have to get aggressive. You don't have any weapon though. All you have are the clothes on your back. So you're considering trying to take over an acerage or farmhouse.

So my question is, would you get violent and try and take over someone else's stuff in that scenario or would you just resign yourself to fait and die in the farm feilds of exposure and starvation? or what would be your plan of action knowing that most people who have farms are shooting to kill if anyone tries to approach there homes.

what would you do???

Firstly I'd try to negotiate, and try to earnestly join their family or community.

At that stage the world will pretty much suck, and dying by a bullet will be better than being hacked to pieces eventually.
Remembering Rwanda, I'd charge for the house and be shot.

you would need to be crazy to go to a farm maybe use your clothes as a white flag but you would be sleeping with the rest of the animals in the barn doing 16 hours a day in a shtf scenario labor will be cheap and plenty full and that is the reality of it

If you are in farm fields there will be woods nearby.. Always is

I would simply go into the woods and survive

Some countries are not big enough for people to 'go into the countryside' so I would find a tall flat topped building, make the first three stories look like the building had been bunt out, possibly with a few burnt bodies scattered about,
then set up rain collection on the roof, the upper stories windows on the south side having vegetable growing planters set back from the window so passerby's could not see them.
And importantly somewhere secure for body waste, hopefully with a system to collect the gas produced to cook and light with.
dead falls and such like for defense, along with a good crossbow and plenty of bolts for it.(bolts are what crossbow 'arrows' are called)
Perhaps I should mention as many packs of seeds as possible, and a supply of chickens! eggs, meat, feathers for bolt flights. Plus the chicken poop for the manure!

I don't think I would ever find myself in the situation the OP puts us in, but you are correct concerning the room/board for labor. You may even find yourself pulling security after you have gained the trust of those who you are working for.

It would be similiar to the early days of the frontier.

Chickens make noise and are easy to catch/kill. After all your prep work, which sounds ok for a built up area, you're going to announce your presence by basically putting a loudspeaker on the roof?

As always, the situation dictates.

Consider this. If you are starving, chances are that you are physically weak as well. A physical confrontation probably would not go well for you. You'll probably not be very sharp mentally either.

If you are suffering from starvation, your best bet would be to try to approach somebody in a non threatening manner and hope they help. After all, you'll be at ropes end and what have you got to lose?

I would lay down and die on the spot.

I mean is that not the logical thing to do?

Are these threads meant to offer or ask for some form of education regarding survival skills or do you just like to fantasize about potential SHTF scenarios and are just asking some random questions to adhere to form?

Yea, I've noticed that the OP likes to throw out vague and not very well thought out scenarios for us to play with too. But he has stated that he is a young adult so may be just trying to learn things.

Or maybe a inept Gov't employee/contractor just trolling the waters hoping someone will bite.

I've noticed that the OP doesn't revisit his threads a whole lot either to possibly clarify thoughts, so there may be a short attention span to deal with as well.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this thread before from the OP, just written in a different manner. But there have been a couple of threads that the OP authored that I thought were good. They made me think, and for that I thank him.

I'm one of those farmers too. Eventually, I plan to have kind of a trading post type setup, but that's only after the initial chaos dies down. Until then, it's pretty much shoot to kill any intruders, or at least high alert.

Approach the farm via the most direct entrance with your hands up, and slowly turn to show you don't have a weapon on your back...

At my place, first you'll hear directions from a megaphone, then a little remote controlled truck will come out with a note and a two-way radio to establish communication (taking the truck/radio would be a bad idea...and the last one you had). Assuming that talk went ok..., a guy (in at least a vest, if not armor...not sure if my cop buddy will have a full suit or not, but know he has a couple of vests) will come out and meet you halfway and escort you in (while at least two others have rifles trained on you, and others are looking around 360 to make sure you aren't a diversion).

Like the other farmer said, labor may be something you could trade for some food, if you have nothing else, but expect to be guarded the whole time you're here, and the stay will be a brief one (and sleep in a locked stallion stall, kind of like a cell, but at least a safe bed, as I'd throw a rollaway in there), only enough to get some food in you, and some water to take with, and then get on your way.

Always a chance we take a shine to each other, and it works out that you join us, but trust is earned, not given.

Agreed, evasion is probably the best tactic to survive in volatile situations. To be able to do this, especially without gear, requires a lot of knowledge, practise and experience. Maybe this is something the OP should focus his energy on more, so that when whatever scenario arises he will be able to fend for himself.

Also have an escape plan and supply stashes so you don't end up in a field in your underpants when something happens.

It's also more fun to actually prepare.

Well the story I'm working on is called "Fallout", so ya it's a slight apocalypse fetish I think

Well if I'm not challenging you to think on your feet, then who will. And when this scenario happens you'll look back and think "ya spartacus showed us the way threw it!"

Okay here's what I'd do. First I'd try and survive on my own. If I couldn't then maybe approach a farm and try and negotiate. If they wouldn't agree then I'd leave. Now lets say I came across a farm were the bad guys where. Lets say they were basically criminals, mugging, enslaving, and or eating anyone who came around. Like they sort of gave me a reason to want to attack.

What I'd do is spend time during the day in near by forests and areas and do recon. I'd write down how many people, who seems to carry guns, what they're routine is, etc etc. Do that for as long as I could hold out. And hope I could wait for one of them to go into the woods, or wander far enough away from the farm. That likely would happen at some point. Probably to try and do some hunting. That would give me my opportunity. I'd see if the easy opportunity came around to jump the person. Maybe they take a nap. Maybe they take a crap. Who knows. At that point just sneak up with a big stick and knock them out. At that point it would be tricky to try and decide what to do with them. Maybe you just take their gun and stuff and leave the area completely.

But maybe lets say they had your family or friends locked up at the farm enslaved. So you felt like you'd have to do something. Well I'd still have a lot of hessitation about killing anyone. So I'd likely just tie the person to a tree. But now with their gun I'd have a chance. Like there's so many ways you could draw the others out. Like take the persons shirt and at night hang it on a tree at the edge of the woods. Then take the odd shoe and place it near by. They'd be wondering what happened and go looking for him. At that point you likely could start to take several more of them out one by one.

But lets say they're super smart. Lets say they never leave the house alone. They never wander into the woods alone. They're pretty vigialant. Then what you'd do is simply sneak up to the barn in the middle of the night and as long as there's no people inside just set fire to it, then go back to the woods. So their barn burns down. Or maybe the same opportunity to do the house presents inself. You'd have to gage who's inside but same thing you might have that opportunity. You set fire to the house. So then you have a chance to draw them out. At some point they'd have no place to stay anymore.

I mean it's hard to say for sure. This is all hypothetical based on a apocalyptic senario where everyone is in survival mode. So it's hard to say how it would go down. But I think even without a gun you'd have a chance to take out some criminal types that way. I'd never try that with anyone who was just trying to defend there farm. But in some rare scenarios you might have to play the hero and try and step in and do some damage.

This person is starving because they were unprepared to take care of their basic needs in an emergency.
They have no idea how to care for themselves once society falls apart.

Along with all the other skills a person should learn you should also know what edible plants are in your area.

I don't care where you live (except Antarctica) has many edible plants. You just have to know how to find them and what they are.

Some places are more bountiful than others.....I live in a desert and it would seem to an uneducated person that it is barren, hostile and contains zero food. Not true, I could live off what nature provides for a very long time although it wouldn't be delicious it would sustain me till I could do better.

My pack that always travels with me in my vehicle has 3 day of food in it with water so I would have a head start right off the bat.

Anyone who starves or finds themselves in your situation pretty much brings it upon themselves.

Knowledge & skills people!!
