China Takes Aim at Western Ideas

www.nytimes.com

HONG KONG — Communist Party cadres have filled meeting halls around China to hear a somber, secretive warning issued by senior leaders. Power could escape their grip, they have been told, unless the party eradicates seven subversive currents coursing through Chinese society.

I feel for you Chinese citizens yearning to be free!

I really do as western ideas have been targeted in America too !

Yes first they came for the 'constitution', and my government is also promoting 'universal values', and they sure don't like an 'independent media' all that much. they sure don't like pro market either for that fact, and they sure don't like criticism of the party in power.

Solidarity my fellow freedom seeking citizens ! ! ! ! !

Who knew we had more in common with China?

One party rule eh ?

Thank god for those 'obstructionists' here in America !

I read this, and I swear change the names, and the labels, and this is America.

of course I just might be overly 'partisan'.

“Constitutionalism belongs only to capitalism,” said one commentary in the overseas edition of the People’s Daily. Constitutionalism “is a weapon for information and psychological warfare used by the magnates of American monopoly capitalism and their proxies in China to subvert China’s socialist system,” said another commentary in the paper.

Sounds familiar doesn't it ?

This must be why capitalism get's attacked so often on ATS it does subvert the socialist 'agenda'.

Here's another gem...

Mr. Xi’s hard line has disappointed Chinese liberals, some of whom once hailed his rise to power as an opportunity to push for political change after a long period of stagnation.

Here's the American 'translation' ...
Mr. Obama's hard line has disappointed American liberals, some of whom once hailed his rise to power as an opportunity to push for political change after a long period of stagnation.

A free thinking & free willed people are no good to those who want complete control of their subservient slave population. What good are we if we refuse to follow instructions & perform to their every whim?

The truly pathetic thing is that there is a whole segment of the population that could be told this to their face by the people in control & they would still be content shrugging their shoulders just as long as they have access to their entertainment & junk food...

The people of the world need to figure out a way to unite & throw off the yoke of oppression...if they're going to be global then we need to be as well.

Ale you brewed, Ægir, and you will never again hold a feast;
all your possessions which are here inside—
may flame play over them,
and may your back be burnt![21]

The civil discontent in China is a major untold story. They arrest thousands of domestic terrorists every year, there are multiple separatist movements with a violent edge. I find it funny how all of these top economic analysts see China having a smooth rise over the next few decades when it is clear that there will be plenty of bumps in that road.

Domestic terrorists you say ?

Well that explains why China spies on it's own people just like America does.

Lot's of things in common.

Since 2001, over 7,000 Chinese citizens have been convicted on terrorism charges.

terrorism in China wiki

I was surprised when I first learned about this. By most accounts in the media you'd think every person in China marched in step to the communist party. Obviously from your article they see a new threat emerging that goes beyond ethnic separatism, which has produced most of the terrorism so far.

It seems like a natural progression that the Chinese would start putting pressure on their party to change. We might even see something similar to the Arab spring happen. A political movement in China would be ridiculous they have like 50 cities with a million people.

I think a lot of similar stuff about India. They have a ton of domestic terrorism too and the same type of concentrated population. In ten years time my fear is that it's complete chaos across all of Asia- from Egypt to China. In that kind of situation the economy would be destroyed and advanced weaponry would be tough to track.

ETA: Wow, I wasn't even close. They have over 160 cities of a million plus in China. If there were civil unrest it would get out of hand really fast. Maybe that's why they crap themselves whenever someone figures out how to bypass internet censorship.

That might be a good thing for us in one way, and bad thing in another with our growing dependence on Asia( China) and the ME.

Stability=prosperity and economic growth without it ?

Riots.

One of the biggest scandals is Cameron porn filter proposal. It would be supplied by Huawei.

The same one the decadent whore past NSA director Hayden said this month China uses to spy on western countries.

Yeah, Asia in chaos would eliminate the chance of America losing WW3 but send us into deep recession economically. There's probably a guy at the pentagon running the numbers, figuring out if it's worth nudging them off the cliff.

But they're communists. Why get mad when communists do what communists do? Ahh, i get it. Then that means we're commies too!

Well, it's now legal for the US government to create and distribute propaganda. Why do you need to create propaganda in a democracy, hmm... ?

I actually addressed this problem recently in a different thread - where I tried to open a discussion on what the best system to create a consensus is.

The increasing fragmentation of society and human consciousness

But I completely agree with you. We really need to figure out a way to unite mankind.

This and some other things they decided they couldn't hide anymore. So they just legalize it which means they could be mental. I mean who is going to listen to anything now anyway? Most knew that they were manipulating and lying for some time now...using press outlets to disseminate the spew. So this must be just a big old middle finger in the face of the "people". Like yea we are doing it, you know we have been doing it and now its legal.

As far as China never forget that some important people in this country just love the Chines model. Even if they have "adopted" some western capitalism/industrialization remember that it was always a Marxist and Leninist dream for the "state" to own the means of production, to own the industrial base. American capitalist fool themselves that they can get in bed with communist china and not take on some morphology that would effect the west. Its like colonization. Eventually the colonies grow up and take charge of themselves. See if a day doesn't come that the chines communists have a resurgence and just confiscate all the foreign industry that has moved there over the last few decades.
