I got to admit I really don't know what to say about that.

Definitely got me stumped. It is a very interesting picture to say the least.

What are your ideas on what it is?

OK...I can't think of a photo anomaly that would make that type of angular smear. I seriously feel the hair standing up on the back of my neck.

The point is that if you take a picture of a moving "dot" with an open shutter it will show up as a line.

I think the lines you are seeing in the pic is the comet at different points in time and at different postions, in one image.

That is the only logical explanation I can come up with.

Doesn't mean it can't be something else though.

This thing has me so excited. Wow. I guess if it keeps on sailing past, we will always wonder. Now, if it turns, and make a bee-line toward us, then my hair might start standing on end.

Somebody is going to come in here with a plausible explanation. Just watch, our ingenuity in coming up with plausible explanation for strange anomoly is unlimited.

Right but it would not show up as two lines.

Also look at the star in the bottom left corner. See the lines coming off of the star if it was multiple shots they would be distorted as well.

Oh it is coming toward us.

It is supposed to be visible to the naked eye in November.

It would if the recording was interrupted and resumed.

Why, those angles stay the same, or virtually the same.

Wow that's amazing. Question. Why do we assume ufo's have or need headlights? Could those three lines be denser parts of the ice that's possibly reflecting more light? I am by no means a expert or novice for that matter. If someone don't come along and make sense of this I may lose my cool. Its freaking spooky.

Interesting delta shape to it, don't know how that can be accounted for.

if it denser and more ligth on it than it shape of light wouldn't like that..it will be Round shape..

Comets do travel through gravitational fields and get drawn in at a certain point.

I'm no expert though.

That's pretty uniform in length and angles from the center point. I'm not ruling it out but it's certainly not higher on my list than that of a possible craft.

We have that area of space mapped.
If there were a body exerting enough gravity to mess with a comet flying by, we'd know about it, I'd imagine.

I'm no expert though.

Another poster pointed out that taking a picture of a moving object would create those lines. If it was three dense parts of the comet reflecting light could it possibly make this effect?

I knew I wasn't too concerned about the red dust and all that. Seems to be something else altogether and am very pleased its a craft.

Don't think you needed to add all the mystery and could have posted your results. It could just be in camera or the exposure...

I plan on photographing it soon as will 1,000's of amateurs so we will know soon enough!

Perhaps it is octagonal in shape and the lights you see are the sides directly facing the sun and thus they are reflected and illuminated where the sunlight hits. That wouldn't make sense though, as a comet would be expected to take a round or elliptic shape over the eons. Maybe it is a simply a huge diamond too hard to be eroded?

Can't say i would be upset if it was a UFO coming to restore balance to the planet.
