I am a Christian, and I completely agree with Rowan Williams on this. Persecution has no soft end. There is either terrible persecution, Christians
stoned in the streets, butchered by packs of slavering atheists, homosexuals, and persons of other faiths, or there is not.
I have been persecuted in my life, not over matters of faith, but over being simply somewhat unique when I was young. I am discriminated against now
because people older than my twenty eight years assume that those of my age group are ignorant of anything that happened before 1993. I am
discriminated against by other Christians, because I am not part of the "lets go down to the purpose built (at great expense) well maintained
building where we all compare cardigans on a sunday" brigade, and because I am a metalhead, which often inspires the idea that I must be in league
First things first folks. Christ is worshiped in a wide variety of ways across the planet, and even right here in the UK, where this story
originates. I choose to worship Christ, not in the way prescribed by the church of either Rome (The very idea of a Roman Church is frankly appalling,
and what the RCC has been responsible for in history is beyond savage, and not of God, and continues to this day in some very disturbing respects) or
England (since lets face it, Christ was not English). I worship according to Jesus's word, in my own home, and in the homes of friends. I do not
limit my social connections to those who share my faith, since Jesus was aquainted with people from EVERY walk of life. Thieves, prostitutes,
barbarians, tax collectors, all of these broke bread with him at some point, and he with them.
He had far more tolerance and love for those who were outside of all faith, more compassion for them than he ever did for those who had puported to
faith, went through the motions, said all the right things, while making liars and bastards of themselves before God. Note, Jesus was never recorded
as beating down people from other faiths, but if he walked into a temple dedicated to God and saw people making money by usurping the faith of the
people, he would go ape, trash thier wares, scatter thier coin before the people, and make the perpetrators sorry they ever crawled out of the womb.
THAT is Christianity. The gutless, hand holding, appeasing, blinkered, blinded, institutionalised, wasteful and GREEDY church that exists in this day
and age, needs as much persecuting as can be leveled upon it, for the Church itself has become seperate from the people, a vast network of nothing
more than money.
People (generally those who dont comprehend at the same time as they read) often say that St Peter was tasked with "building a church" for all
Christs followers, and that this is why we have these massive buildings, and the huge expenditures on staffing and maintaining these buildings, why we
have an institution at all. However, it is my belief that Christ's church should never have been of stone and mortar, and should always have been
bound together by people. It should never have owned property independant of that owned by its followers, (which it does today). It should not have a
bank account, or the capacity to act unilaterally (which it does today).
So, in short, organised Christianity, the abused, raped version practiced in buildings dedicated to the purpose, rather than amongst true believers
who do not require a club house, treasurers, managers, priests and vicars, organised Christianity SHOULD be persectuted, because it is as much of God
as the murder of the young, and the destruction of innocence are. That the entire structure is not currently on fire, collapsing around the heads of
the kiddy fiddlers and accountants who currently run the entire show, is a travesty, and given that the Church (not Christians, but the institution
itself) has been responsible for the bulk of persecution over the last thousand and more years, toward everyone else, I think its about time the vile
construction took a licking. And as Rowan Williams clearly pointed out, most of the people complaining wouldnt know persecution if it jumped up, and
forced its fist down thier throats.
