Want to see a lighting bolt hit a commuter train? Of course you do.

Video from a Tokyo resident, taken on Monday evening.

A Tokyo resident filmed the moment an Odakyu Electric Railway train travelling from the Izumi-Tamagawa Station to Noborito Station took a direct hit of lightning on Monday evening. The train was travelling over a railway bridge when it was struck sending sparks flying at the front of the train as it slowed to a stop. The passengers onboard reported carriages suddenly went dark as the train temporarily lost power. There were no reported injuries and the train regained power and was able to move again after 10 minutes.

That would be so flipping scary!

Actually, I would like to see if you look like your avatar - if so, lighting does strike twice in the same spot.

I change my avatar a lot, only yesterday I was using a real pic of myself. Apart from both being blonde I dont think I look much like that avatar,

so to answer your question 'nope'

and what I look like doesnt really have anything to do with lightning hitting a train

I have been wondering if she speaks with an Irish brogue.

On topic: I liked the video. I liked the sparks flying off the front end of the train.

What an amazing capture!

Recording a lightning strike relies on either dumb luck (getting your camera out and pointing it at tall metal structures during thunderstorms) or shooting a rocket attached to a wire many hundreds of feet into the air during the correct weather conditions.

That this event was recorded at all is amazing.

What is also amazing is that the train was up and running again in ten minutes. If that happened here in Britain, I am sure it would take at least an hour to even get someone out to look at the train, let alone get it moving again. Good job cameraman, and great job railway employees!
