Hi,
I have had this idea i want to throw out for others to consider and possibly
build. Right now i dont have the cash to build a prototype or i would be
all over it.

But i was sitting there the other day doing some research on hydrogen power
for cars, they have come quite a bit from the humble beginning.

My therory is, a good quality hydrogen generator, to produce the fuel to run
a small motor, which will spin a pulley that spins a few car alternators.
Plug this into a inverter for house hold power, and you have endless power
without the requirement of gas like most generators.

As many learned in Hurricane sady, Gas generators are nice, but they do you
no good if you dont have power at the gas stations.
This would require water instead of gas, which is a supply most of us have, even
if we have to use river water or something, it would still be a supply where we could
have power to run our fridges and essential electronics.

Could be a life saving thing to have around, and if someone had the cash to build a
commercial model, it could be a great business idea.

Power without gas.

Anyway, that is my therory, i wish i had the funds to turn it into more than just a idea,
but not a option right now. Maybe someone else will have the opportunity.

Here you go. Better start drinking now though, build up a good store of empty cans.

Why dont you just make a sterling engine. You can make a heat source from wood. There will be plenty of wood if you are out in the country.

Thanks Phage, that gives me enough info to know it would be worth tinkering with.
I was looking at a system online, it's around $500 for the setup, but produces 3liters
a hour of hydrogen, which should be more than enough to power a small engine,
the trick would be to tune it down so there is very little reserve super small tank as in
oz size before it hits the motor and burns, so it's producing just enough, not not enough to
worry about explosion from to much stored up. But that should be no big deal, just a matter
of adjusting things.
Ok, this will be a project for this winter for sure. Just have to convince the wife its a good
investment. *LOL*.

I see he was using aluminum instead of 316 steel, from what i've seen the steel last a lot
longer and takes a long time to corrode. But his set up is a interesting idea.

babybull24, ya going boom is one draw back, but if the only supply or excess is limited,
it shouldnt be a problem, i would not want any size of storage of it thats for sure, more
along the lines of it produces just enough to run the motor.

ShadellacZumbrum i have thought about a motor such as that, and have a few ideas of
putting one to use, but i was thinking more along the lines of a power source you could
easily get supplies for, not needing to go into the woods and risk being seen.
I do have a pile of wood for the stove, but wood has a tendency to give you away with
the smoke trail. Kind of hard to be inconspicuous with a plume of smoke coming from
the top of the house. I was thinking more along the lines of a way for power that could not
be seen by others, or leave a heat trail for our govt to use infrared to track down.
i would think a small hydrogen generator inside would give off no traces of anything for
others to locate you.

a sterling engine using a fresnel lens for a heat source,or a fresnel lens to power a steam engine sounds more efficient and safer.

Kind of a bass-ackwards approach. Have you looked into fuel cells?

I just built a small one two nights ago, i was caught up in all the hype about how easy it was to make so i had to bite.

Mine is from 2" stainless steal washers, 3/4" SS washers, nylon washer and a 2 1/2" nylon toilet seat bolt.

Works ok for a first model, it dosnt produce as much hho i expected but i understand how it all works now. I was using baking soda or sodium bicarbonat, i had to put 10 tablespoons in my 1 gallon container just to get enough to to bubble out through the bubbler but the more baking soda the more amps it draws.

The Dry cell is my next project, they claim it produces more with less amps drawn and safer.

My goal is to build one for fairly cheap (if possible) to run a walk behind push mower, then if that works, Im off to install one on the ole 4x4 wagoneer.

But this is to help with saving money on fuel, as stated above the sterling engine would be great for an electric generator which are all over you tube. Im in the mist of designing one for my shop heater for this winter, torque is my biggest concern without access of a machine shop anymore!

Use to have a wagoneer loved that thing, mine was a 76.

Ya, been reading a bit on the dry cells, they look like they would be
much safer.

I'm still at the starting stages of playing with it all, but got curious about
it when i saw a video, we have a exploder that runs great, but mpg is
not that great, would like to increase it, then i got to thinking one other
uses, and curious as to how far it could be taken.

Only one real way to find out, thats start tinkering.

Torque was one of my questions as well, if it would have enough to
turn everything and be able to gear it so you get the speed you need
to produce enough power to make it worth messing with.
But from all i have been reading, it looks like it should prove to be a
useful idea.

My ideal is down the road build something big enough where we can take
the house off the grid, or at least let them pay us, but thats way down the
road and a lot of experimenting and building.
