I wish that I could legally share with you the events that led to my decision. I cannot. I feel you deserve to know what’s going on--the first amendment is supposed to guarantee me the freedom to speak out in situations like this.

Unfortunately, Congress has passed laws that say otherwise. As things currently stand, I cannot share my experiences over the last six weeks, even though I have twice made the appropriate requests."

And now it becomes perfectly clear why the large corporations exposed by Snowden wont admit to their involvement in PRISM... it's basically against the law for them to talk about it.

That was already known though, when the whole PRISM leak happened. Part of it that was mentioned said the companies can't talk about it. This guy probably said more about it with his explanation than was allowed. Absolutely everything about these programs (even acknowledgement that you can't talk about them) is classified.

My only question and concern regarding American peoples;

Why havent ALL of you stood up against this government yet? Year after year your nation is ran by more evil, your rights are being taken away bit by bit, and your government is headlocking you in a chokehold

Just stop working, come together as PEOPLE, and show the government/corperations you will not abide by such evil and you will not be pushed over by abusive police forces guarding such evil.

There are more numbers in the American people then there are people in the government, military and police forces combined. It shouldnt be that hard to stand up and tell the evil, enough is enough, the people run the country, the country doesnt run the people.

Dont wait for the last moment - that could be the worst decision and the hardest time to 'fight' against the tyranny. They are trying to orchastrate a WW3 it seems without making it too obvious. By then, your entire attention will be diverted to 'terrorists' and bombings, or infiltration.

Yea, thats a reality you DONT want to see. People of Ats, amongst the American population here, seem to believe they are an intelligent crowd. What is show intelligent about letting evil government and their police zombies control your life? You talk about being the greatest nation on Earth, but what is a nation other then an IDEA of where one lives? Are you the greatest people on Earth?

Do something, thats all Im saying.. This is getting real bad, and evil is bullying every corner they can. Your ancestors did not fight for that country for no reason. At least they put up a fight. I havent seen a fight in American people, only against eachother!

No one would have believed in the last years of the twentieth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter. It is possible that the infusoria under the microscope do the same. No one gave a thought to the older worlds of space as sources of human danger, or thought of them only to dismiss the idea of life upon them as impossible or improbable. It is curious to recall some of the mental habits of those departed days. At most terrestrial men fancied there might be other men upon Mars, perhaps inferior to themselves and ready to welcome a missionary enterprise. Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us. And early in the twenyfirst century came the great disillusionment.

The sad truth is that we walk around thinking that we have rights when in fact we are more confined then most will ever realize.

Yeah... unfortunately, our friend Lincoln, here, fails to realize that the US military doesn't live in Lincoln's time anymore. That now, any violent revolution can and will be crushed by ADS, drones, electric arc weapon, and, if they feel they'll lose, they still have the nuclear bomb and even the antimatter bomb at their disposal. D.U.M.B.s will enable key military figures to literally disappear off the face of the Earth in the case of SHTF. He forgets the concept of bulletproof tanks, nuclear bunkers, etc.

Americans, may be doughy and lazy, but history has shown the American people when moved can be powerful.

We are the inheritors of greatness, we need only realize it.

The PTB also realizes it. That's why the military is in place. To avoid the collapse of your society back to chaos. Ever wondered what would happen IF (big emphasis on the IF here) the people successfully destroyed the government and its worldwide defence system (the military)? Mafia and neonazism and criminals will be the first to take over. They are quite more coordinated and faster than honest people. Why do you think the big media keeps feeding the people with pro-revolution propaganda (Hunger Games, The Purge, Revolution)? They are using the same tactic as the Communists did: "People of all nations, unite yourselves (against your respective government)" - quote from Karl Marx. Marxism, my friend, is still much alive. The russians might have lost the cold war, but I feel that the Ideological war has just begun.

Respectfully,

Swan

You have a President who ran on a platform of government transparency and respect for the constitution who turned out to be a liar and has trampled both, a congress with no regard for the will of the people who put them there, and secret courts that you aren't allowed to know about. So much for checks and balances?

What?! So youre telling me a politician running for government told lies?

Who would have thought such a thing possible?

But seriously....
There is only one way to know what a government will or wont do when elected, its quite easy to know too, because its the complete opposite of what they say they will do. Its been this way for at least a 2 decades, im surprised that people get surprised about politicians lying. What do people expect when they lie and are not taken to account. It strikes me as hilarious that Clinton was impeached for lying about an affair, but the likes of Bush and Obama lie about things that really matter, lives are lost because of their lies, yet nothing is done about it.
We have a world of idiots, blindfolded by the mouthpieces for govt(the MSM).
Freedom is collapsing around us, and I think its about time we sacked the lot of them and started again.
The constitution needs to be revived and maybe even revised to prevent this corporate take over of the world.
Society needs to take its future back into its own hands, that goes for the world over, not just the USA.

Another U.S. based secure email provider has decided to end their mail service according to CNET, stating

that it could "see the writing on the wall" and decided it best to shut down its Silent Mail feature.

This is the link to the company's blog post.

Silent Circle states they have received no communication or subpoena from the US government, but that they can't guarantee the security of clients' email and would rather be "safe than sorry".

As an aside, guess where I read this headline?
Yes, the American-audience intended, perfectly legal since the "modernization" of the Smith-Mundt Act, State Department propaganda vehicle, Voice of America.

Lavabit, email service used by Snowden, shuts down

boingboing.net

Remember when word circulated that Edward Snowden was using Lavabit, an email service that purports to provide better privacy and security for users than popular web-based free services like Gmail?

Lavabit's owner has shut down service, with a mysterious message posted on the lavabit.com home page today.

we are being led by the nose, but I believe in a good way towards good ends.
this is all about getting our blood boiling over the injustices and corruptions
at the core of those establishments that ruled over our lives for so long!

but a tide has turned behind the scenes and there is a new force at the
helm, a force for the good imo.

snowden doesn't exist in reality. he is a computer generated creation manufactured
using well known and widely available technologies within the movie industries.
(check out the making of the movie Benjamin button if you doubt me).

but it is irrelevant whether he is real or not. the contents of the messages is what counts.

America land of the oppressed

Guess the USA and UK spent all that time fighting the NAZIS in world war 2 for nothing. We may have well surrenderd then as we lost our freedoms anyways, just took longer for them to die.

Or not have them in the first place. America did not enter the war to stop Nazi Germany. They entered the war to stop the soviets at Berlin. Many Nazi war criminals were recruited to conduct their work on Americans. I guess you have to commend America for not singling out blacks as guinea pigs under MK Ultra and its predecessors.

As you can see, it wouldnt be the worst thing that ever happened under an administration.

Sadly they are going after Snowden hard...

Snowden accepted asylum so long has he didn't leak anything more. He thought he was good to go because others had his info and it was them that would leak it. Unfortunately as soon as he left that Airport he was checkmated. He can't leak anything otherwise he gets his papers pulled and Russia sends him back to the US. His only leverage he has is the fact that he has these documents and more importantly others have these documents!

The Shakedown:

Snowden has stated that TOR was secure and he used it, stated that in Chat logs on Arstechnica, As you all know the FBI came in and took down Freedom Hosting due to Childporn. They installed a Java based malware that compromises your MAC address and other information the moment you logged on to the secure site. All good for a Pedo site (nail the bastards) but the little bit of information that seems to not be repeated too much is that they installed this on ALL sties on Freedom Host... including TOR Mail and legit sites.

My guess is the Pedo bust was just to get into freedom hosting and the are tracking a site there that either has/had the documents or a place where they communicated about it. By compromising the location of the people going to those sites they now can now know one half of the equation and send men in Black SUV's or Seal Team 6 to those people and retrieve what they have.

The second half of the equation is the people they don't know of, people not using TOR but have the documents. So either you compromise his very secure email or you take it down. By taking it down you effectively force him to communicate outside the secure network he built before he left, hopefully giving you a trail of crumbs. Lavabit had both client and web based email... was he just using the webmail version in case his computer was compromised? If so does he have everyone's email that needs? If he didn't that could prove trouble sum to rebuild your network without compromising the very people you are trying to protect.

Whats out is out and what he gave to some reporters is still going to come out, but maybe not all of it will come out. Maybe the heavy stuff that is keeping him alive he only shared with a few because of it's sensitivity. The US only needs to get to those individuals before they and Russia feel safe in taking him down.

A guy builds his company for 10 years, putting all of his heart and sweat into it, and then the Government shuts it down because someone who used it happens to be someone the Goverment doesnt like.

If current trends continue we`ll be a totalitarian dictatorship within the next 10 years.

People are calling this scary, but this is exactly what has gone on with all the big e-mail providers, including Google. The difference is that the owner of Lavabit has the integrity to protect the privacy of his customers, so he shut down his service rather than sellout his customers to the government. The same cannot be said of Google, Microsoft, etc.

I'm actually heartened by this because for once a US email provider is being as forthright as possible about government attempts to control his business.

Imagine if the other major email providers i.e. Apple, Google, Microsoft, had displayed the same level of integrity that the owner of Lavabit has done...

There would be an all out mutiny if this (suspension of email service) happened on a large/broad scale. We the people would storm the castle and the heads of those people that create and implement such unconstitutional programs would Roll.

The day is coming ... we can be complicit slaves or make a stand.

They would not legally own it, any statute, bill, law, ordinance, rule that violates common law, thou shalt not harm and that include tyranny or slavery (that is major harm), and constitutions is illegal and unlawful. That is the real law, upheld in the highest courts and no one has to obey any of their unlawful legislations or bills, they're criminal, tell them to shove it.

They rely on compliance with crimes and the russian roulette of some lower court criminal decisions, but people cannot comply with things that are unlawful.

They never do this legally. Their entrenched psuedo laws are not legal. They violate the law.

How can an email provide be responsible for who uses their email service? Or a taxi-driver be responsible for who uses their taxi?

Even people like me, who are generally OK with and Tolerant about the Government and not at all part of the "Lets Bash the Government" crowd are starting to raise their eyebrows. And that means something. It means that something is VERY wrong and we need to start taking a stand. One way to take such a stand would be to boycott Apple, Google, Microsoft and implement citizens privacy stronger than ever before.

Well if this doesnt show people how far the TPTB is willing to go. Then that is scary. There is NO WAY this is going to be broadcast as news on the MSM. So the majority of people in this nation will no nothing, and continue there sheeple ways. What a mess we are in.
