Pretty sure that this guy is probably in the dog house lol

They say a dog is a man's best friend and shipwrecked sailor Graham Anley proved just that when he rescued his beloved pooch from his sinking yacht - before returning to save his WIFE! As his boat started to sink Mr Anley grabbed his Jack Russell Rosie who was wearing a specially-adapted dog life-jacket - and swam ashore. Once the animal was safely on dry land he swam back to his stricken vessel to save wife Sheryl who had been trapped on the boat after her safety line snagged on the yacht’s steering gear.
According to the Zimbabwe Times, the drama unfolded after the couple hit a reef off the coast of South Africa on 4 August during a three-month sailing trip. Geoff McGregor, of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), told the Huffington Post: "As the incident happened, Graham sent a Mayday radio distress call and activated the EPIRB (Global Positioning Distress beacon) but they were immediately forced to abandon ship. "He first swam Rosie ashore safety before returning for his wife."

awk he must really love that wee dog lol

Get 2 cars.
Put your wife in the trunk of one and put the dog in the trunk of the other car.
Wait one hour and then let them both out.
Which one is happy to see you??

Thats why the dog was rescued first.

That is just so wrong! Seeing as he's a yacht owner, I wonder how the Mrs. will do in the divorce settlement?

I think we both know how that will go,yet another reason to rescue the dog first.

Shoot my wife would be crazy enough to make me get her dog out first...

We all know that its better to rescue a dog first as its a better survival tool than a nagging wife....so rescue dog crack open a few beers and relax and then head out to the wreck and see if theres a few beers still on board and if the wife is still alive i suppose rescue her as i've yet seen a dog thats well trained in cooking food

Don's bullet/flameproof armour and hides

It'll probably go for a buck from the Mrs perspective just to piss the husband off IMO

Maybe he was already in the water and close to shore with the dog before he realized his wife was trapped on the boat and not right behind him.

Dogs are dumb animals that way. The lifejacket may have been impeding the dog's ability to swim and anyone with half a wit who intended to sail out in the blue yonder must be able to swim, as I'm sure the wife knew how.

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure if I cared enough for my dog to have a life vest, and owned a boat and was out on it...the dog wouldn't have been a novice at swimming either....

I don't know, I can totally see telling my hubby to save the dog first, especially if you can swim....I don't know would need to hear what the wife has to say.

p.s. we happen to have a little terrier named Rosie too, and she is a horrible swimmer, she fell out of a canoe once and could barely swim with her short little legs and plump little body....she didn't jump out again after that!...

It doesn't sound all that bad.

She is human and can consciously understand what is happening and make choices to prolong her life (life jackets, back floating, deep breaths, stay calm. The dog has no real understanding of what is going on and therefore the dogs life is essentially in more danger than the wife's. So bringing the dog to safety while the wife waits it out makes perfect sense to me.

If she was unconsious, or struggling to keep calm, or breathe, swim whatever then obviously human first but it doesn't sound the case here because she was right he left her, still waiting.

Lets face it Dogs are more reliable and trustworthy companions than woman.

What an extremely rude and sexist OPINION.

What did some chick dump you and now you blame all women for your problems?

There are some seriously bitter men on ATS.

...and yet at every given chance comes the rude and sexist snide comments. Desensitized yet ladies?

And another thing, most people treat their dogs like children, so with that in mind, of course they both would have tried saving their baby first.
