I do not bash Unions, I will say though that they are not exactly always the easiest to get into right now I have tried recently even with Vet Preference they just simply don't have the books to sell right now. If you can get in good on you but even unions cannot solve the broader problems of our nations lack of work and economic manipulation.

Question, How does one start a successful business without enough money for start up costs taxes etc etc for those that are on the verge of starving and homeless?
I wouldn't even suggest an attempt at a .com business ran out of the public library. This is just a thought of mine though, there is more to it then just getting hired especially if you have ZERO resources.

Heres some Startup Biz Statistics

Some really interesting figures there even suggests that 71% of businesses fail around 10 years and if you notice the most successful businesses like having a day care or start a religious organization does anyone have an idea of what it costs to get the proper licenses and insurance etc etc lol this costs a lot of dough

Well, me personally? I have no children. I paid off all debt aside from student loans. I tossed everything aside, and went for my passion. All income that comes in goes to that passion, and I live frugally and meaningfully.

I also stopped giving a f'ng # what anyone thinks about me and my life, as I watch this paradigm suck the life out of them, and they will pass that on to their children.

71% of businesses fail. Correct.

The only people who listen to those stats are those who are afraid to FAIL more than they are to TRY.

I would rather fall on my face TRYING TO SUCCEED than trying NOT TO FAIL.

Good brother...you can either read these stats...or you can read information about what needs to be done to be self sufficient, and THEN TRY.

What's the worst that can happen? Failure? Hell!! I embrace that rather than being stuck!!!

If my connection to this reality, my life, my breath, ENDS TOMORROW...I will pass into the realm of nothingness with a smile on my face because at least I know that at the end of the day I did not let these demons, these beasts, these foul pieces of # that run this paradigm dictate how my life goes day in and day out.

I agree with you.

It is getting diffecult to get in. They even want some collge now.

I think the problem is that the media and politicians has made the unions look bad for too long. They dont have the power they once had because of the manipulation that each and every one of us has allowed the politicians to get away with.

The only way for it to get better is for people to stand up together and make their voice be heard. But i think that is pretty much a pipe dream no because of the greedy selfish nature that we have become used to.

But the family has to eat so it is what ut is i guess.

IDK I can't fathom using all of the money I had to start a business without having any real knowledge and everything else required to run a business. I am sure the simple solution is to hire someone that knows better but if you don't have the capital or a solid plan then you are doomed to fail no matter what kind of wishy washy optimism one may have, you do not have to believe in the ocean to drown.

For those with no capital or attributes to make you a successful entrepreneur I do not suggest starting your own business until you get the resources and proper knowledge and education to make you successful.

I also have no children, no spouse. I tried and failed. The one good thing I can say that I did, was buying grandma out of her house when she was going to go into a nursing home. I let her live in the house rent free, hydro electric free, and oil free ever since. I paid it all, all she had to worry about was food, she could not afford to live anymore after grandpa died and she lost 2/4 pensions.

That is sad as # man. my grandparents worked enough to get 2 pensions each, one from US and one from Canada, and she could not afford to keep the house they built, got burnt down and rebuilt all before I was born. No mortgage overhead or any of that. What is in store for me in my future? No pension from all my work in the US, I can get one from canada if I live long enough and stay here. The pension wouldn't even cover food expenses. Every time I get money saved, I sink it all into dental, I have sunk 10 grand into my teeth so far, and I am not even halfway done. Teeth pain is worse than migraines.

This is sad news but that is awesome you did that for your grandma, I was pulled out of the street by someone close to me and we look out for each other I know how these kinds of bonds work only the person that pulled me out of the gutter was a friend. I still think that the first step is organizing but it seems so impossible given opinions outweighing necessity hard desicions will have to be made soon!

I chose my passion and put what money I had each month towards the "capital" of what I was trying to do.
I didn't just wait until I had 10,000 or whatever else. No one is waiting on hopes and dreams, you either go for it(meaning..what you really want) or you don't. Every cent goes towards every STEP. Not just a down payment on something or what have you. Set goals. Write down what you want to do. Goal 1 of 25 may cost $5, Goal 2 may cost $199, but I learned to just shut the hell up and WORK TOWARDS EACH AND EVERY GOAL, and that is still my path. Even if your plan doesn't involve owning a business, you can STILL HAVE A PLAN. Don't give up. Defeatist attitudes are not cool. I can't be bothered with it.

Knowledge? I went to college for communications. It was there where I learned that all it takes is a pen, pad, a highlighter, maybe a few cups of coffee and some goddamn initiative to buy a few BOOKS and LEARN what the HELL you need to learn about what you want to do.

Now if you excuse me, I'll be gassing my car up tomorrow with the income that I have, to hit a convention miles away, to display my wares and market what I do because I love doing what I am doing regardless of the end result each month.

I used to be depressed, because I tried to live according to "the script". When I stopped, and invited struggle, uncertainty, and some goddamn FIGHT into my life...I stopped being depressed. In fact...I realized i had no time for that...all I have time to do now is fight. And it feels good man.

It is pretty hard to save and do all that on low salaries with no securities I never said it was impossible if you read my last post carefully I did suggest that it is not a good idea for one to start a business without a plan, knowledge, and capital these are things you possessed to get started and good on you for that, I truly do hope you stay successful and get the opportunity to give employees a job to I really from the bottom of my heart do. I am saying though that it is a fact this is not a possible scenario for so many, and if everyone was meant for this then everyone would be doing it this is not the case either. Good luck at your convention BTW!

That good deed saved my ass. If I had not done it, I would be homeless in NY now, along with my parents. Now we at least have a place to live. Property taxes are about 500 a year, we paid more than that per month back in NY.

The downside, is there is no work here, there are some factory jobs, but the government pays to ship people in every year, and houses people from haiti and jaimaca to fill the jobs here..... The factory in town here recently changed hands, and my uncle that worked there for 30 years got #canned. It's rough, no loyalty to the people that have been there forever running the place.

We are trying to bring our business up here, but people are dicks. Plus, people up here do not do real nice floors. It is all prefinished crap, even in the "high end" houses. High end houses in the tristate did real hardwood floors, and all custom work. Borders, medallions, all kinds of fancy stuff.

thank you!!

and don't give up. I am just trying, and having the time of my life doing so. I am not rich or successful. I am just trying. And i do not go to bed hungry, and i do not live beyond my means.

I am just trying to be positive because it is rough right now, but the truth remains: if you are relying on a 9 to 5 to save you(or a 9 to 12, thanks to Obamacare), that will not cut it.

Any hustle is a good hustle to me. Just keep yourself safe.

I know the feeling my town is dying too, where I live used to be one of the biggest cities for steel manufacturing when all the metal work left and the foundries went under thats when things started down hill very fast. I am currently trying to get out of my location and head westward for a better shot in a career in welding. Hell before I got involuntarily recalled back to active service after my first EAS I had a job when I returned they went out of business and that was in home remodeling and contracting. I always hate being on the grind but its the only way to attempt to get ahead for me at least.

I never suggest giving up but I do believe wholly that we as a nation really need to do some tweaking on current affairs and try to turn all this around. I just dont know how or what exactly needs the revamping but know that alot of stuff out there needs it in the worst way

Totally agree.

But...until everyone is on the same page...take a step back...and think about how you can improve on the things you can control.

If I was a total jerk, I could say screw you to my family and go out on my own. I could go out west and work some dangerous ass job. I can't do it though. MY father cannot work alone anymore, those days have been gone for at least 8 years now. My family is the most important thing in the world to me, and I cannot just abandon them, even if I just gave the house to them, they could not survive without my young body doing all the heavy lifting of machines and materials.

Sometimes I wish I was more equipped to live in this world, AKA be a sociopath and not give a crap about anyone but myself. Then I think if I cannot look at myself in the mirror now, how bad it would be to live then....

It's either that, or we all die together lol. I would rather live and be prosperous, but only so much is up to me.

My sister is a new mother, I fear for her, her fiance and the kid. Both her and her fiance are working fulltime, and not really making ends meet. And they are smart, he works nights, she works days, so no childcare costs.

Yeah, I've had several jobs like that, unfortunately they're usually through a temp agency, so it never lasts long. I'd do that for $11.78 an hour though, no problem. Even with my knees as screwed as they are, I'd love to make that kind of money.

I was reading awhle back about the cycles that economies go through. This was a while back and I wouldn't be able to find this article if I wanted to so bear with me. But, basically one group of people (it was the US and it's allies the last time) will come up with some new technology that will change the way things are done. It will catch on, first in the country that it's developed in, but then the markets will open to the other countries and eventually, the whole world is tranformed. Everyone has the electricity, the computers, air conditioning ect. And, there will be no where for the country to peddle to, the technology has been broken down, analyzed improved upon, and it being manufactured in those other countries. This is where we've been at for awhile, and probably stay at until someone comes up with the new (if they haven't already) and the process starts all over again. Where that new will come from is anyone's guess, but the way things are going, it doesn't look like it's gonna be the US . They seem more intent on just preserving what is and more likely to kill anything new ideas that might threaten it. But, someone somewhere will come up with this new and the cycle will continue...

This cycle can be tracked by generations The good news for the younger ones out there is that you are similar to the generation that fought WW2,, the ones that transformed the world last time. Weather or not you are one of the few that get to enjoy that new world first depends on weather you decide to be innovative or not.

I probably did a lousy job trying to explain this, sorry. But it's like every generation will spend a portion of their lives in each stage of the cycle My father grew up in the depression, fought in WW2 and then came home. And during his time in the labor force, men ventured to the moon, the highway system was created, computers start to become more mainstream, I spent my childhood watching as the world transformed. I entered the labor force as the textile industry left the country, Japanese cars began to be sold in the US, the technology was adapted and did the jobs that were done by those workers in my father's time... The younger ones think that us boomers had it so wonderful. I am a boomer, I entered the workforce at the beginning of decline and it's been downhill ever since. It's my kid's generation that are entering the workforce during the time that is similar to the depression. The world is in a state of .inertia, waiting for something new to come along and give it new life!!

I'm 26 I had nearly a year of unemployment after I was discharged (honorably) from the Navy. Now I'm washing dishes for $7.25 an hour, but I don't mind, work is work and the people I work with are pretty cool.

I'll agree that finding a job these days is not an easy task, sometimes you have to take a job that you don't want because at least you'll have a job.

Op, I imagine that you have more bills than I and probably a family to support. That being said, I would love to make $11.00 an hour. Maybe you'll feel better knowing that some people would love to have your job?

Believe me, I'm a skilled worker too. I have a lot of electronics experience from my time as a Sonar Tech. I'm also a good mechanic with the certifications to back it up, but I could find no employment with those skills.

Oh well, the sun still rises in the morning, and still sets at night.

When I hear stories like this I cringe. About a thousand years ago I was intending to join the Navy myself. I took the physicals, took the tests, and all that, but the recruiter told me I didn't qualify for the rating I wanted (aerial photographic observation, or whatever it's called) and instead they wanted to give me a different rating (eavesdropping on Russian ships and breaking their codes, or whatever it's called). I was annoyed so when they put the enlistment papers in front of me I said "Nahhhh!".

I can't help but wonder what would have happened to me if I had signed up- yeah I'd have an interesting career but I'd have four years full of worthless skills once I got out (shiver). Say Dave, I used to work with someone in the Army who was rated as a radio communications specialist but the army put her in whatever that department is that picks up body parts after an accident. She was very good at working with radios but there simply wasn't any positions for her rating so they put her where they needed her regardless of how disgusting it is How often do things like that happen in the military?
