Subscribing to threads

What does this mean, when I view a thread it has an option to "subscribe to the thread". I checked the FAQ's and didn't find anything so I thought if I posted this, someone might know.

When you subscribe, you get e-mails each time there's a new post.

I think I'll pass on that option.

could that be concidered spamming, one may recieve hundreds of e-mails!?

well ADVISER, thats why you have the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe to any threads and control them from profile/subscriptions. So its in your hands. If you consider it spam, then you're responsible for spamming yourself.
