I had originally planned a disclaimer at the top saying that I knew the subject had come up before, but that I wanted to bring it up anew for those who either hadn't seen them and didn't know to search for them; or that some of the information in them was incomplete; or that—well, some things need to keep being brought forward for the benefit of new members because, to be honest, we all know that a lot of people are not aware enough to go digging for old threads on important subjects, simply because they are not aware of them.

But thanks for pointing out that excellent thread. It's the very one I had in mind, but I didn't realize it was that recent. I somehow had it in mind that it was a year or more ago.

Next time I won't be so cavalier about skipping the search.

And by, the way: Yeah. Public school. Just when you thought it was as about as bad as it was going to get—the Feds decide it would make an excellent vehicle for creating good little "collectivists"....

i really can't believe this is REAL. the first video was disturbing enough, that teacher REALLY creeped me out, especially the way she roamed through the class as they were "teaching" each other with a little frown as if she was searching for discontent.i felt it a little on the "juvenile" end of things thinking that those kids were just a little old for the way it was presented, THEN i moved on to the "grade 7 class", and then to really freak me out the SAME juvenile approach continued right on into high school. everything following the same path, right down to words used, the "gestures", (wtf do gestures like that have to do with LEARNING), even that "happy/disappointment crap with the "score card". seriously i thought they were supposed to be trying to get kids to LEARN MORE, NOT MAKE THEM even DUMBER. i really feel sorry for these kids as hey get out of school to find themselves hopelessly lost in the "real world" that is not dumbed down and made fun (not that i would have found all that BS gesturing and yelling back and forth using different voices "fun").i just tried to picture some of these "kids" especially the "high school class", starting to work at my old job. they would be mercilessly PICKED ON by older co-workers if ANY of that crap came out. like if we were trying to "teach" something and they started up with their "gesturing" and going back and forth to "teach" each other or the "repeating" crap. and i do mean SERIOUSLY PICKED ON and made fun of.

have no doubt this is NOT about teaching so mach as INDOCTRINATING. the whole GESTURING as they speak, even the PATRONIZING used is all about "controlling them". lets see where have i seen gesturing like that before.... KIDS CHURCH, and even the WAL-MART "chant". i wonder if THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO with all the "school shootings? seriously i don't know how long i could have put up with the BS without "SNAPPING". i would have likely gotten beat up even WORSE in school teaching like this since i would have continually caused "UNHAPPY FACES" to be gained as i never DID deal well with the whole "gesturing thing" even as a small child, getting me to do the "motions" while singing and stuff was a fight as i would just REFUSE to do it, thus i would have had every kid PO'd with me for always "costing them their "reward". i guess i would have also spent more time at the "principle's office" because i would NOT have COMPLIED WITH THIS BS.

then there is the kids "yelling" repeated stuff at each other, this is supposed to get them to "learn" better?, how much time is WASTED with all that repetitive stuff? time that could be much better spent LEARNING MORE stuff?

i hate to say it but this is turning the US into an even BIGGER LAUGHING STOCK across THE WORLD. and these "teachers" seem proud of what they are doing :shk: any teacher who uses this "method" should be IMMEDIATELY FIRED for INCOMPETENCE. this type of "teaching" might be APPROPRIATE FOR KINDERGARTEN, not for kids right up on through high school :shk:

12 years of an "education", you never use. You get educated, AFTER high school graduation.

While I applaud a more standardized way of doing educations in our country, look at other countries they don't vary from province to province. This will most likely pull up the worst states but also pull down the ones that care about it (are there any left?).

Education should be one of our top priorities as a country.


Knowing Teachers I will ask them if this is better than ALL CHILDREN LEFT BEHIND but I doubt it. It is most likely a downward spiral. Sad really education is one area America led the world, well at least when I was a kid...

At least the Rich can pick and choose how to educate their kids...


It is simple really. We will need more CONSUMER driven Drones in the future not more people who can think, act and reason for themselves.

My only real concern would be Does it work

Adjustments to education are needed and if there is a better way to teach it should be explored.

Now if this is creating a bunch of fleshy robots well then that is another Agenda...

You guys must read John Taylor Gatto if you haven't already.

This book is amazing (although at some point it becomes paranoia, but given the other posts in this thread I suppose it won't scare you LOL). I would be thinking all through each chapter, "Yeah, but what on earth does this have to do with schooling?" and then by the end of the chapter it would tie it all together and blow me away. It's from a dozen years ago or so.

I was 'educated' in Calfornia back in the 70s-early 80s. When I was 18 I realized with horror that the only thing I'd managed to absorb was the political indoctrination. Except, hilariously, I had the idea that everything I believed in was somehow supported by my teacher's favorite political party, when it turns out I was a 'constitutionalist' that didn't even HAVE a political party ('cause they all suck). I set out to educate myself on what I missed. I'm 48 and I'm still working on it.

The internet today allows more self-education in a couple months than most of 12 years of schooling.

I admit my connection is too slow to watch the vids, but from my own personal experience I can say that this common core curriculum did not do my son any favors. Pair that with all of the testing required by no child left behind and they have effectively stunted our entire educational system, which was struggling to begin with.

My son could read before entering kindergarten, we had our basics covered. His Kindergarten teacher was great, and it's kindergarten. After the first semester of his first grade year he stopped reading. They spent so much repeated time on nonsense exercises and repeat work that he actually lost ground. He could or at least would read and write better for me before he entered the public school system than he was after being in it for a year and a half. When I pulled him out to start homeschooling him half way through the year there were only 5 readers in his first grade class. They focus so much on nonsense "words" and inane skills that they are not actually covering the basics even very well.

I only gave the system a year and a half to try and educate my child before I took matters into my own hands. After homeschooling for a semester he had read Stuart Little, James and the Giant Peach and started the Narnia series. There are other educational options out there. We are lucky enough to be able to homeschool and continue to do so. The side bonus is that my 2 1/2 year old is already fluent in his basics because of the time spent on school. He knows his colors and shapes and speaks in stories rather than sentences.

I can't speak for the system as a whole or for others progress made, but from my own experience, they are wrong pushing this on our schools.

Even many materials available for home schooling (though not all, by a long shot) are Common Core these days. Unless you order online, the newer stuff (what you can locate) is all now Common Core. And you are correct; this is NOT something the states are doing. It's completely federal. Because, hey, they have done SUCH a great job with education so far, so we can trust them to rewrite everything.....NOT!
