FBI sued for keeping secret their file on journalist Michael Hastings

rt.com

Two investigative journalists are suing the FBI after the government failed to respond on time to a pair of Freedom of Information Act requests filed for details on the death of reporter Michael Hastings.
"By suing the FBI for failure to comply with the Freedom of Information Act, [we] hope to obtain records pertaining both to the unusual circumstances of Michael Hastings's death and to the broader issue of FBI surveillance of journalists and other critics of American national security policy,"

If you too have doubts regarding the mainstream media version of Hastings' disappearance you may want to give a look to these threads (among others):

Hastings' tweets also showed support for Ron Paul: link

Well it's not quite an investigation into the mystery surrounding his death but it's a start

This is on the Drudge Report. It was just posted today.

The lawsuit follows the FBI's failure to respond to separate Freedom of Information Act requests for records on Hastings submitted by journalist Jason Leopold of al-Jazeera and Massachusetts Institute of Technology researcher Ryan Shapiro.

What the hell is with that? al-Jazeera ? MIT?

Now why do you suppose those guy want that information?

I do find it interesting that the FBI completely ignored their FOIA Requests.

I wonder if the FBI ignored it because they know they are a Bunch of Damn Liars?

If that information is released maybe we will discover that MIchael Hastings was being investigate after all.
Do you suppose it will bother them if we call them LIARS. After all they said there was no such investigation going on.

Serves them right although I would be the very, very, veriest to admit that Fatso Hoover was cutie-cute in drag.

IF there was a conspiracy surrounding the death of Michael Hastings, and if said conspiracy included the arranged planning and execution of the events which killed him, don't you think the FBI would simply shred the relevant files? Obviously they were lying, but it'd be fairly easy to avoid a lawsuit by coming out with a very banal few pages, and leaving the rest in burn bags.

I fear that after Michael's death, any actual paper trail would have met the same fate as the journalist. I also fear that this litigation will result in little information outside the ineffectual.

The Freedom of Information Act is useless. It's a false idol of freedom and transparency. An FOIA request, if granted, only gives you access to information they want you to see. There'd be no point in classifying documents and performing clandestine operations in the first place if the lid could be so easily blown off of them. Don't count on anything of value ever being found about the Hastings assassination.
