Spacecraft Sees Giant 'Hole' In the Sun (Video)

The so-called coronal hole over the sun's north pole came into view between July 13 and 18 and was observed by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO. NASA released a video of the sun hole as seen by the SOHO spacecraft, showing the region as a vast dark spot surrounded by solar activity.

I've seen smaller dark holes on the sun, via links posted around these boards. Also, a giant black cross formation on the front of the sun, as well as massive eruptions and other odd activity but never almost the whole top half of the star to go dark.

It looks like the Sun is wearing a toupee.

That coronal gulf is not nearly as large at Spaceweather, but it has swelled on Yahoo
The image must have had to crawl uphill to Yahoo as it is two weeks old
Is it still there now ?. Yup but not considered to be worth a comment on spacetek sites
