Amash Amendment "No" Voters Received Twice as Much from Defense Contractors

Just as I suspected, the representatives who voted no to the Amash amendment, as a whole, received twice as much in political contributions from defense based corporations.

According to the figures put together by MapLight, the NO voters received $41,635 million while the YES voters received $18,765 million. Theres a few Yes voters that were in the top 30 who received over $100,000 that we should recognize. Bet they wont get that much money next time they run. These included:

Joe Courtney D CT-2 $130,500 Yes
Gerry Connolly D VA-11 $122,000 Yes
Jack Kingston R GA-1 $109,500 Yes
Addison Wilson R SC-2 $100,100 Yes

Hats off to these guys who were willing to risk losing big money and potentially the next election to stand up for the constitution!

Another striking thing about that chart is that no representatives received any money from groups that supported the amendment.

In an article from Wired it was noted:

The investigation shows that defense cash was a better predictor of a member’s vote on the Amash amendment than party affiliation. House members who voted to continue the massive phone-call-metadata spy program, on average, raked in 122 percent more money from defense contractors than those who voted to dismantle it.

Pretty telling. Thats the way it is in Amerika. Also from the article:

“How can we trust legislators to vote in the public interest when they are dependent on industry campaign funding to get elected? Our broken money and politics system forces lawmakers into a conflict of interest between lawmakers’ voters and their donors,” said Daniel G. Newman, MapLight’s president and co-founder.
