The 2 pillars holding it up are 3 blocks wide.

Th first row on top is 8 blocks wide.

On top of that the row is 6 blocks wide.

The top row is 4 blocks wide.

Why does it not line up correctly?

The top 4 layers are in the wrong place... Shifted to the left too far...

I don't know about this being an "optical illusion"... More like bad brick laying

Ohhhh...I get it!

Its a real optical illusion.

Edit: Actually now that I understand the riddle and upon closer inspection the top four blocks are not as wide as other "blocks" below it. If you use a ruler you can see that the top four are "short" a portion of one block. That offset is continued on down so that the build up of the slight fudginess makes it "offset".

Or something like that. Let the mathemeticiansss explain it better.

It's not an optical illusion, it just looks like one!

3 blocks wide in some places. 3 1/4 in others. No consistent measurement in the bricks or mortar. Non-sensical all over. Just an eye-estimate of the varied brick-length should be enough.

Two threads on this? Are you slow? Or maybe I am? Or maybe Brick-Tourettes Syndrome? God bless its little heart as we say in the South---when we're being kind.

How so? I think you'(re) wrong.

P.S.- don't get me wrong...I like skater girls even if they can't do simple math. Even moreso.

It has everything to do with math...at least as far as brick length and mortar go. One example; right side 1st and 2nd row up. There are many examples, however.

Jesus the answer is simple why are you going on about mortar?

It doesn't line up correctly because whoever did it screwed up. Or one person started it and the second person screwed up.

Seriously no one can see this?? The stair ( for lack of a better term) on the right starts lower therefore there is enough space for another star to the left of it, shifting the top to the left by one brick width.

You may be looking for something deeper or more substantial, in which case, ignore my reply.

After looking it over carefully, my eyes tell me that the arch/gate would be symmetrical if:

you take away 1 block from the left end of each of the top 3 rows, or
you add 1 block to the right end of each of the top 3 rows.

The doorway is centered with the width of the walls (columns), so the asymmetry lies in the upper part of the arch as I described above.

Could you just please reveal what you're getting at and be done with it? I'm not even sure what the question is, and every answer I've seen so far only adds to the confusion.

What is the question and, for god's sake, what--if there is one--is the point?

It doesn't line up properly because there are three empty squares on the top right side, and only two on the left. I think perhaps some bricks fell off the right side creating an extra empty square.
