Well, at least we don't have to experience what the alternative would have been. Whose to say if the allies would have defeated the Axis without the US? Maybe you would have. Oooo, a busy thread, ok a few things to say.

The US won both world wars - false. The US may have shortened WW1 by a few months, but their contribution was not overly significant. In WW2 it's undoubtedly the case that without US help the UK would have been swallowed up by Nazi Germany. I much prefer the way things actually happened, and I truly appreciate the sacrifices made by many US families whilst trying to liberate Europe. Truly. That said, I don't have to agree with everything the US do, just because of this.

SeaBass - The US should just act responsibly within the international structures. Going to the UN to try and gain legitimacy for a decision you've already made is not the same as going to the UN to try to solve a problem with the help of all the other major countries. US actions over GW2 just appeared arrogant, and very unilateral. Particularly when this is pre-emptive war, a war which didn't involve a clear and present threat to the US. That kind of war is unprecedented and should have been carried out with a great deal of care. It wasn't. That's the problem.

Honestly, I like quite most Americans that I've met, I only dislike a few that I've personally spoken to, it's just American foreign policy that I dislike intensely. There is also an element of American society which is quite selfish, which I also dislike, which might be the fault of the individuals, but I'd say it was institutional. Ultimately I don't think the US has always done things for the right reaons. Removing democratically elected socialist governments and replacing them with fascist pro-US dictatorships gives the US a pretty poor record of nation building. I simply don't trust your country to do a good job now.

To a point, yes. You have to take the good with the bad - no society is perfect, even where YOU come from, CoLD. True, there is a lot of violence in the good old USA, but for all that violence there are 10X as many places that are pretty much "utopia". I am fortunate to live in one of those places.

You may think we're the "big bad bullies" of the world, but everything we do (that you think is bad) is for a good reason. Those dumbasses that protest every move our country makes apparently are not looking at the "big picture", the world as a whole.

America is made up of people (from all over the world) who weren't just content to leave things as is, but who wanted to see what's over that next hill, and who said "Know what? We could make this better."

From what I know (if you know otherwise on these, by all means, enlighten me), we were the first to mass use automobiles for transportation, develop airlines and air travel, develop telephone networks, the internet, radio and television stations, motion pictures, and a host of other world contributions to society in general. All this whining frankly makes me sick. The next time you want to hate America so much, think about how your life would be without us, and what you'd be doing right now without these contributions (playing cards?)...
