I just could not help myself and am posting quotes from an article (see title above), reposted from Salon, on Alternet today:

Last week, preeminent conservative blogger and Fox News contributor Erick Erickson was busted hawking a pricey but dubiously valuable financial advice newsletter to his readers ...

The truth is, peddling shady products to your most loyal listeners and readers is the rule, not the exception, and Erickson was just unfortunate enough to have someone notice him, and not the dozen other talkers or news outlets it could have easily been. From miracle health cures, to get-rich-quick schemes, to overpriced precious metals and seed banks, talk radio hosts and conservative news outlets are making a killing by trading their platform and credibility for the hard-earned cash of their unsuspecting listeners.

The most obvious example is gold, the precious metal conservative talkers encouraged their listeners to go all in on during the Great Recession....

And the article goes on to detail specifc incidences.

This isn't new yet I can't help finding it morally reprehensible. As a non-christian, I find the fact that 'good christians' are often the ones pushing this stuff - on TV, radio and especially the internet.

Liberal talk radio does it as well - it's not just conservative 'pundits'. It's just a fact of life in these rarified circles. But I wonder how people live with themselves - I do suppose one will do anything at all to support their family.

It's sad when people don't take pride in their work (however humble) only in their paycheck.

Well I just wanted to share and see if others have anything to add.

So left wing political news groups (Salon, Alternet) are bashing the Conservatives for 'hawking wares'. While I don't like it from anyone, the implication is that the left never does this. Don't think I buy that.

It's how entertainment stays in business. Even ATS is doing it, it's called advertising. Personally I think it should all be outlawed. Been saying it for years. Just lends to worthless, mindless memories of crap that you never needed and will never do you any good.

It's not Christians or non-Christians who sell 'junk' to idiots. It's people, with no race, sex, or religion.

It's not news, and everyone's interpretation of 'junk' is different. For example, I wouldn't pay to have lunch with Kim Kardashian, but I bet if such a thing were auctioned off, it would be a bidding war. Buyers are entitled to buy what they like, even if it's something someone else calls junk.

Well the Left sold or should I say forced us into Obamacare, it's already financially in the Tank, Doctors are leaving the profession, Insurance Rates are going up, wait till that Payroll Deduction kicks in, that'll be fun.

No I don't understand that the 'left' in leading the nation right now - it in fact is not and never has. The mess we are in, as you call it, have to do with 30 plus years of Big Business Capitalism (fascism) - the left in this country has never been strong - we call it the labor movement - and the RIGHT has been after labor for a century.

That is not even close to the truth. Reagan had the deficit paid down and when Clinton took office the debt was completely paid off. We had a zero balance then along came Bush. He was a complete disaster. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse along comes Obama. Bush done his damage, but nothing compared to Obama. So don't give me that 30 years crap because it is just not true. The deficit we have now has been made in the last 12 years that is what is the most sickening thing about it.

By the way Obama done more damage in 4 years than Bush Jr. done in 8 years. I almost hate to see the damage in the next 3 years. I'm not sure we can survive it.

And yes it is the left that controls this country right now!!!

Like most Americans, you wouldnt know a genuinely socialist policy if it jumped up and kicked you in the throat. Its ironic, because it is the primary complaint against Obama, even though his healthcare package is basically another money machine, and about as socialist as the Bilderberg group. I never understood the whole "Buy Gold" thing. If paper money is going to be worthless, why will they accept it?

My point, in posting this thread, was that "Snake Oil Salesmen" have an abundance of "Marks" these days regardless of who is running the "Scam".
