I personally believe that porn is not only demeaning and dehumanizing to women and humanity, but that it is a huge crime against humanity, and makes victims world wide. I want it illegal in video and in magazine form. All those smutty magazines burnt in a huge heap. I want every strip joint in the world shut down. As well.

And it would be about time.

Just looking at the comments on the BBC site and it is overwhelming in favour of a opt out system.
Why punish the people who do not want porn to be blocked? If you do not want porn accessible on your computer you should opt out.
I can't believe how backward this is..

Ban porn. It's just a naughty little titillation that can easily turn into an addiction.

I just think it's funny, because now we all pretty much know who here at ATS watches porn.

Oo I hadn't considered that. Now everyone knows I look at nudies.

I probably masturbate too.

I'm a sinner

Why only degrading to women?

just out of curiosity.

Women, the aware awake ones, feel endanger because of the abuse of women in their faces nonstop. Every single intelligent woman I 've met wants porn in every form there is made illegal. And all men who would view it, or couples, sent into cousneling for watching those (often abused from childhood) victims.

We feel massively threatened by it, its a danger danger to us.

The majority citizen, women are over half the population from 20 years of age on, feels incredibly threatened by it and demeaned and feels sorry for the victims, most want it gone, but its shoved in our faces, to keep women down and abused and objects, and put them in their place....!!!

Good thing you don't speak for all women then since there are plenty of people that make their daily bread from it, including women.

Whether you like it or not the porn industry is a big industry and creates a lot of jobs and people do the work because they want to.

The ONLY women who don't see this, are a few men pleasers, as some do when they're younger, and the victims.

So, sorry.

Iam all for regulation in the industry to make it safe for women (and men) and many of the producers do follow standards.
I know a few women who have made a pretty bob or two from making some movies, they enjoyed it and It helped them pay for university.
To say all intelligent women are against it is just wrong tbh.
You don't like it? don't watch it, this thread is about porn being blocked not If it is right or wrong If you want to make a thread be our guest.

The idea of an approved 'whitelist' of sites is being mooted.

Many of the isps have rejected this idea of an automatic opt in to web filters for so long because it's virtually impossible to do effectively.

Much easier to just tick the ones you can go one than to filter out all those you can't.

This is not about pornography, it's about control of the internet and we are free to access.

I'm almost certain sites like this will be deemed inappropriate for family viewing and will be unavailable to those who don't actively disabled their imposed filter (or use one of the many other methods).

I'm no fan of porn, but all I can think of is the "list" that will be made by the govt when this goes live.

Anyone on that list will eventually be on the depraved list and subject to incarceration(or worse) in the future society I see coming.

I just say, be careful what you wish for. Your freedom is treading on someone elses freedom.

Less govt intervention is the best.

Yes I did!

If other blokes want to watch porn which is up to them, fine, no problem but I do have a problem if my grand daughter watches it, she is simply too young. When she is older she can make up her own mind.

Uhh, then don't let her on the internet unsupervised. How about that? Oo

Too bad you can't handle that. You watch whatever floats your boat.

Can't - some prudes are trying to change the law. It's really absurd and annoying. For some reason they want other people to do their job for them. They appear to be incapable of doing it. And worse, they think that by blocking websites it blocks all the rude pictures. I don't think they know what they're doing..

This has nothing to do with good parenting

You're right. It's all about lazy parenting.

No one can 'parent' 24 hours a day and kids may not access the home computer but one outside parenting control. If you had read the rest of my post you would have seen I did wonder where Cameron would lead this 'inroad' into our private lives to. I suspect he is working on picking out the porn lovers for a police short-list which we all know they love. Anyway our Governments share information on everything, so I doubt they don't already know of who enjoys watching porn in the privacy of their home etc. Cameron is unpopular so he will grab at any issue to boost himself and the family is his big card.

Here is the point, once again. It will NOT STOP ANYTHING. Ban www.bignorks.com all you want. It's ridiculous to think that this will prevent your grand kids from seeing things. They'll just take photos and txt each other.

Absolute insanity.. Plus, I refuse to be penalised because you can't control your kids.

You're letting David Cameron play on your fears as a parent. Seems he will always come up with some 'spin' to take people's liberties away. He's one of the worst Prime ministers we have ever had.

edit on 22-7-2013 by PhoenixOD because: (no reason given)

Whatever you think of the plan, Cameron didn't dream it up, it's being doing the rounds for years. And to some of the responses on here, it wouldn't be something where you would have to agree access everytime, it's about filtering at the ISP level.

Not sure it is actually feasible though, it depends on some self regulation by the sites that host content.

Nope, I just got here though. I'm a woman and I'm not anti-porn. If people want to use sex to make money that is their personal decision, no one else's. Yes I know many women are exploited, so are men. There's also people in the business trying to make it exploitation free. A lot of people do it to support a drug habit, they will find other ways to use their body to get drugs if they can't do porn. A lot of people also to do it to pay their mortgages and it's no ones damn business why they do what they do. I also believe prostitution should be legal.

Same as you can't place an area of protected space around young children when they go outside to play, you can't do so with the internet either. Is porn your only concern with online material? Do you have any idea the amount of violent or racist or otherwise foul videos on youtube? What about horror clips or movies, that's a big thing with my son and his friends. Blocking porn won't block those, are you okay with your kids seeing those?

You will never, ever be able to relax while your kids are online... you can't and you shouldn't.

This is a ruse, a play on parental fear... a trap. This program will come with the means of blocking whatever the government wants blocked. Don't fall for it. Parenting requires diligence.

Your kids will see porn no matter what you do, they will always find a way to see what is so bad about the things you restrict them from, the human brain is programmed to test, to push limits. It's your job to help them process it, to tell them this isn't reality for most people, most people don't look like this and you shouldn't expect sex to be that way or your boyfriend or girlfriend to be extremely endowed.

Even Pakistan and Saudi Arabia allow porn ..... so this is not caving into Muslims again.... another limitation on freedom for the free ....

I didn't care when the took porn...

I didn't care when they banned demonstrations....

I didn't care when they told me I can't fly the Union Jack .......

Now that they took football (soccer) away... I am going to riot!

I have to laugh but it seems just like all of those who demonstrated for "Travon" ... but don't care and don't riot when they find out they are being tracked 24/7 by the government .......

there is a worldwide wave of oppression of individual liberties where sovereignty of a country is being usurped by groups like the EU. I wonder if the EU had any influence on it?

2 Households.

Household 1. I don't want you looking at internet porn.
I'm shutting off the computer. Read a book. Go play outside. I'm ending our internet contract with our service provider.

Household 2. I don't want you looking at internet porn.
I'm pettioning the government to step in to make sure NO-ONE looks at it without registering first.

Which house do YOU live in?

My only concern is that certain individuals might currently be using Online porn to " relieve " their sexual frustrations, and if it ceased to be available to them they might attack a live female instead.

The one that is not too lazy or computer illiterate to utilize readily available filters.

It is up to Parents to take necessary precautions or supervision.

Stave off the Nanny Orwellian push ...
