Oh my, David Cameron, has somebody annoyed you recently or something. Kick the devil off your shoulder now.

GM food, ban it now, do us all a favour.

Fracking, just say no, now, do us all another favour.

You do not want to feel like the next TB, deeply hated for the crimes against the nation.

Be the decent guy, be the guy people say ''wow, maybe politicians aren't all anally retentive bs merchants out to pocket everything they can from corporations whilst shafting the people they were 'elected' to serve''.

Be the good guy.

Thatcher said she was not prepared to further subsidise the coal industry, which provided an income for literally hundreds of thousands of people, when she could buy cheaper coal from Poland - which was heavily subsidised by a Polish communist government - an ideology Thatcher allegedly vehemently opposed yet was prepared to buy from in order to decimate the coal industry in her own country.

This is the same Thatcher who Cameron et al wish to deify.

Then thatcher sold off our energy suppliers,

Which 'we' owned yet never had a say in.
Any profit made by these companies stayed in the UK - now it is syphoned out of the country.

saying the cost would never rise above inflation.

Was anyone really naïve or stupid enough to actually believe that?

Now everyone pays out of their arse to keep warm in winter and the fossil fuel used isnt even British.

Unless you are a pensioner who has worked all their life, paid tax etc but now can't afford to put the heating on in winter whilst billions are wasted or drained out of this country.

God damn the conservatives, i hope they choke on their last penny.

Amen to that.
The sad thing is the alternatives are not much better - which was shown quite evidently under Blair and Brown's governments.

But we digress.

Again, it is theoretical risk and nothing like this has occurred so far....so don't panic. But it appears a rather 'odd' thing to do as it appears so 'uncontrolled' and the possible opening or cracking in other parts of ground a touch concerning.

Don't panic Mr Mannering.....

No no no what utter BS

This could never happen in the UK the geology is very much different to places it has occurred in Africa which are located on tectonic plates and seismically active grounds, plus there already has to be a threat of such a thing before the fracking or mining begins for it to be considered to dangerous, i don't believe there are any such cases within the UK, this story will likely no doubt be used as a scare mongering story to the British public tho

Similar incidents happened at Lake Nyos in Cameroon Africa
news.bbc.co.uk...

And a similar danger exists at Africa's Lake Kivu, Rwanda's north-west border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo

BS

How exactly?

The fact is the Shale gas industry will create over 50,000 UK jobs, trillions of cubic meters of shale gas are estimated to be under the UK

Everywhere you look in fact seems to be coated with a huge amount of BS facts & what ifs

1. Fracking does not cause ground water pollution

2. Fracking does not cause earthquakes. Even the silly author of the article admits that.

3. Global warming is a bunch of liberal crap. The world hasn't warmed for the past 17 years. Only the grantistas believe it anymore. Anyway, the use of Nat Gas from fracking has reduced carbon emissions in the US.

4. In the US, fracking has caused the price of gas to halve from the price paid in Europe.

5. Fracking generates a lot of tax revenues for both the local communities and the government. Even with reduced tax rates for fracking, that is still income which will be lost if there is no fracking.

6. There will be lots of jobs for fracking well operators and estimated 50,000 in the UK and thats just to start with, which will generate income for individuals and tax (personal income tax and VAT) for the government.

So, the uneducated author wants the UK to forego all of these benefits due to some unproven claims of ground-water contamination and his false theology based on global warming. erm JOG ON

Not to mention Josh Fox who bangs the fracking is dangerous drum to line his own pockets has been proven time & time again to be an outright liar and misleading people

Secondly... do you oppose the move for Shale gas in the UK because you hate Osbourne or that Osbourne might make some money?

Thirdly... are you under the impression nobody makes money in fossil fuel extraction?

Are you just not up to date with how the old boy's club works?

For starters, a lot of them attended the same private schools (Eton etc) They all know each others families. Camerons daddy worked in the banking industry for gods sake. There all chummy with each other, you need only look at the past 30 years of politics to see the same pattern:

Certain people donate to parties, when those parties get into power, they come through on their side of the deal, for example, halving the percentage of tax on shale gas to 32% - How much do you want to bet that the owners of these companies that will be extracting the shale gas donated to the tory party or lobbied certain members in order to get better terms? Is it so unthinkable to you that corruption exists at every level?
When thatcher started privatizing state assets her husband made A LOT of money. Politicians are on the inside, they invest in companies and make policies that will make those companies successful.

Another example would be george bush invading iraq - He just so happened to own an oil company! Wake up for god's sake.

Secondly... do you oppose the move for Shale gas in the UK because you hate Osbourne or that Osbourne might make some money?

What does it matter to me when the price of energy will still remain extortionately high?
As for job creation, well i suppose that's good for Britain... If they dont decide to import their labour

And yes, i oppose any politician making money from any economic policies they set. When they privatize the NHS, many politicians will be making a quick buck and the rest of us will be paying for it. Its in their interests to privatize state assets because they have personally invested in the companies that will take it over. Same thing with royal mail, Whatever companies slice and dice it, vince cable will have invested in the one or two of them that will make him a nice little retirement fund.

Thirdly... are you under the impression nobody makes money in fossil fuel extraction?

I am under the impression they make TO MUCH money. Running into its billions i believe?

Would you mind answering a question for me? Why did the price of gas rise in the UK after the mines were shut down and gas & electric boards privatized?

I beg to differ, yes there are no alternatives to those who hold the centralised power, but considering the situation more strategically, on a local government level, getting bums on Parliamentary seats, and people willing to organise and rally support, then alternatives do exist. One such example is the Socialist Labour Party, headed by Arthur Scargill who fought so tirelessly, if fruitlessly, against Thatcher on behalf of the miners.

I am sorry for the continued digression, but, while I appreciate that this country needs sources of energy, it is only by actively standing up for ourselves and using the power that we possess, that we can prevent short cuts being taken that risk lives and livelihoods. That means, looking to those who are organised, and giving them our support. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of believing that the central power is the only force in this country and believing that it has all gone too far, that we might as well just go along with it. Central power can only over-ride local and county legislation if no one puts up any resistence. Just look back at the miner's strike and the role the Sun had in turning the populace against the Miner's cause. Divide and conquer. Now all they have to do is say it is so, and everyone turns their backs for the sake of a quiet life, no matter the long term consequences.

Currently, alternative, clean forms of fuel, are being ignored because there is not enough support for them. We are dependent on GMOs because of over farming, and largely because of a dependency on food imports, which is further being exacerbated by prime farmland being turned over to the production of bio-fuels. We have an environment that is ideal for the implementation of numerous forms of clean power but we are worried that it may blot the view. Silliness all around, and no long term consideration of the over all implications.

We have to consider something far more important than money or power shortages when it comes to fracking. We have to consider WATER. Britain's water companies have already given warnings that water may be seriously polluted by fracking in the UK. The UK is a small island. Once the water table is polluted, where is your life blood, WATER going to come from?

Wouldn't that be too little, too late?

Or would it be like Jarrow in 1929? All those people marching from the North down to London only for Ramsey MacDonald to say he was too busy to see them...but at least they got their bus fare home

You dont want nuclear power, no fragging, no incinerators no wind turbines "on moi land" and yet the population of our country grows at a staggering rate.
We dont have enough housing, we have yearly water shortages ( so it seems) crop failures ( weather innit) high unemployment and our kids have a bleak future.
Through all of that we are supposed to find a suitable, ethical energy source that will not only power our nation into our next generation of citizens but the generation after that etc, etc.
What do people suggest we do? Fart into containers and donate them to our local power stations?
Wind turbines, using the sea/water as energy is utter bunk. We cannot BUILD enough to provide the energy for a nation of 60m , if not in the future, a 100 + million citizens.
You dont like the future plans for finding energy? Dont have children, do your bit to keep the population down because that, Im afraid, is the harsh reality. Our population is unsustainable but peoploe assume that it is their RIGHT to have children then whinge about the legacy we are going to be leaving them. Utter #e.
Fracking may well not be the answer, however, our water supplies are drawn from different levels to where the fracking will take place ( unlike America) and this country has Earth tremors on a daily basis. Whether it will increase such tremors to any significant or noticeable degree is pure speculation NOBODY KNOWS!!!!!
My neighbour works offshore on Wind turbines. He is as happy as Larry a whole industry built on a fat lie that has created his and tens of thousands of jobs and a multi million, if not billion pound a year turn over. Do you not think that fat cats have not got rich on that? Does nobody think that these huge companies didnt get tax breaks to set these turbines up? How naive are people?!
For christ sakes, wake up!!
edit on 19-7-2013 by LFN69 because: x

England has water shortages because the privatized water companies sold off the reservoirs and surrounding land to property developers. Absolute insanity to bring in 200,000 people a year when there was already a housing shortage.

I am educated and I do deny ignorance.

There are valid concerns about fracking, fact. There are known, undeniable risks of fracking, you cannot say they wouldn't happen, you are not the determiner of chance or possibilities.

Aim your insults elsewhere.

A key concern for water companies’ is that fracking could cause contamination of the drinking water aquifers that overlie shale gas reserves by allowing gases such as methane to permeate into drinking water sources from rocks where it was previously confined.

Contamination can also be caused by chemicals used in the fracking process entering drinking water aquifers through fractures caused by the process or, potentially, by poor handling of wastewater on the surface.

So your argument is basically: "If you hadn't been born and brought your energy requirements into the world, those nice people in power wouldn't be forced to use environmentally disastrous methods of energy production."
I suppose when Monsanto finally gains full control over world food production, you will be ready to accuse people of supporting the GMO takeover, by eating.
The truth is though, that the planet continues to use fossil fuels as it's main source of power, purely because it makes a few individuals very rich indeed, and not for any other reason. Those individuals have the money and power to influence goverments, suppress alternative technologies and maintain the status quo for their own selfish and short term interests.
