You are aware that blacks have been oppressed in south africa just like in USA?

To some extent it is natural for people to have bad feelings. In the old days the vitriol was very real for some folks. But as time goes bye it should be less and less unless the ptb want to keep the divisions alive longer than it should exist.

Nelson Mandela was locked up for a good portion of his life by the apartheid regime. He was a militant version of MLK but later became more tame. I am not terribly suprised by his emotional outbursts. Context is very important!

as you can see, it's so bad even the mod was like, eek, and removed it.
what's happening in south africa should not happen to anyone. anywhere. ever.
not here, not any color, not any religion or non religion.

Don't know why I watched it, that was disturbing, but it didn't really validate that mendella was actually supporting it. I admit, I have not really done any research on the man, but I was under the impression he was against senseless violence. My people were victims of genocide, and quite recently, I however could not involve myself in such barbarism. How could I condemn genocide against my people, then turn around and participate in it myself. It's sick.

Basically what happened in america is nothing compared to what happened in south africa. Well unless we go back to the slavery era and the civil war. Lots of death, hate and imprisonment in south africa. To this day I would say there is still much more racism there then here.

Sometimes a bit of humor is the best medicine.

This is meant to be a satire on the shallow ethnological studies and interpretations of African cultures made by 19th and 20th century Europeans.

This video had me rolling. But it does bring up some things to think about.

OMG

I agree with Bezzer's perspective again. This is the second time that this has happened. However to look at the OP again I really question whether or not the many whites can see the black perspective. Those who can have maybe undergone the experiment where white people were discriminated by their fellow whites because they wore a label that the dominate group did not. I think this experiment was pioneered in the Sixties with some school children.

So what do we have without the abovementioned experience? BAsically we have the same discussion that we had since the abolitionist arguements started. Large groups of whites say blacks are Blah blah blah. large groups of blacks say Bleh bleh bleh abouts whites. and positions get entrenched and people talk at each other and selective hearing rules supreme.

Franz Fannon wrote about the objectivication of the black male body as have several other writers but how many whites simply denounce this work WITHOUT EVEN READING IT.

How many Blacks have shot and killed whites anyway? Please do not drag out the idiots of the new Black Panther Party again because they merely posed and maybe threatened. The real facts are few black men would even dare to shoot a white person because they now the maximum sentence awaits them and their community.

No I am not optimistic.

Race is a way they try to seperate us. It's a nauseatingly old, tried out method, but not as old as say religion. Anyone with half a brain isn't buying it anymore....of course the world is loaded with idiots....psychic vampires...zombies.... There is only ONE race and that is the human race. We are ONE.

and nobody listened.

There are plenty of racist folks in this country.

My only question is this: why would you embrace a language and behavior that is known to cause economic hardship, then complain because your opportunities are limited? Poor English is a key indicator to an employer that you may lack the insight needed to do a job, unless you don't speak English as a first language. And you certainly need both hands and a belt to do any job. I have seen all races guilty of the above, by the way.

There is plenty of blame to go around. But you would have to be a fool to believe that only white people stoke the fires of racism. This isn't the 60's any more. As long as people have a reason to continue being prejudiced, nothing will likely change.

All I can do is be reasonable and accepting myself, and teach my kids to be the same. Outside that, not much else is within my reach.

BFG

I can only assume that you and many others who think as you do simply have never met and had a heart to heart with an educated person of colour. We do not all speak like we are gargling with golfballs. Educated lack people can write English and can also use Microsoft word to edit their writing.

Simply ask 99 educated black men to discuss their experience of race in the office and be prepared to be shocked!

no it's not about color. one day i was applying for a job and another applicant came in as well, asking for the form to fill out for the position. this was a white lady. she said "are you guys still hiring?"

the manager was polite, handed the person the form, and then the lady walked back out of the place. meanwhile, the manager says to me "i never hire people who don't speak proper english." i was a bit puzzled and said "oh?" and the manager said "you guys. that's not english."

i thought to myself egads if i get this job, this person is going to be a real stickler about every little detail... i wasn't so sure i wanted the job at that point, but i was hired. thankfully, i didn't say "you guys" because i've said that before in conversation. anyway, i dreaded my first day at work, cause i thought the manager would be nit picking everything i said and did, but nope, that was apparently just some weird pet peeve she had. she was otherwise, quite reasonable and not nit picky at all.

some people get uppity about the strangest things.

Race is an issue after over 100years because certain individuals are benefiting as individuals. Said individuals then participate in collectives which also benefit. It is happening on both sides but the power structure is predominantly white. Obama is largely a figurehead and is owne dby big business. as is all US western politicos.

People who don't speak english well usually work under the table contributing nothing to social security, unemployment, disability, pay no state and federal taxes, etc. Not to mention communicating with them is very difficult and hinders their performance. This is not a racial issue but some people like to jump the gun and call it that.

Its normally a problem with illegal immigrants causing these other problems.

well in this case, it was just a local inhabitant who wanted a job and used an informal word in her request for an application. i saw nothing wrong with it but the manager went all lopsided about it.

I understand the intention Charles,
But to lay out how hypocritical you think the situation is
because the African American man in your last video has a foul mouth is
not helping. I could find a hundred videos of racist slurs hate speech and threats
being spewed by white people. And to say it would be torture
to listen to Al Sharpton and Jackson is not exactly a dialog opener either.

My point is there may be better ways to start a conversation
than saying look how awful some black people act.

This president has brought about some of the most intricate ways
of expressing racism without coming right out and owning it.
Instead detractors say, he's a commie, a socialist, a fascist,
a Muslim and when they slip a Black Panther.

But if Obama's was a white man named Tripp Bristol and his predecessor
a black president, all we'd be discussing is how great the economy/stock market is doing
and how strong our recovery has been considering what that last black president did.

Why must the black community conform to the non-urban standard... dropping their terms and phrases, losing their accent?

They don't have to unless they want to become members of our society and be considered for employment by those that speak proper English (99.9% of us).

this is true. i think we could all use a bit more sensitivity in our approach to the topic. just wish mr. sharpton and company, would lead by example. imagine how the race thing sounds to young kids of various races. they hear that and say, "nooo, i am not a racist! he's mean!" and they grow up thinking people like him are mean. see you and i, we don't have big tv screens to be mean on. he does. he needs to use it properly.

Yeah I see nothing wrong with "you guys" but managers are known to be fussy. They look at grooming, verbal skills, read resumes, can tell if you are lying or honest, etc. It depends on the position, location of the business, and the experience of the person hiring.

To be honest I have not had a bad experience though.
