For further information about that check out a book called "The Sign and The Seal" by Graham Hancock. Personally I think Hancock lets his faith and his religious fervor get in the way of his postulations, and he only has a degree in Sociology, not Archeology or even History. That being said, he does put forth some interesting ideas, even if he muddies his own water further down the road.
