Robinho was scheduled to play in an away game for Santos against Criciuma in a Brazilian championship match on Sunday afternoon, but club president
Marcelo Teixeira said the player would return home and would not play.
The young star shot to prominence two years ago as he helped Santos win the Brazilian championship for the first time in its history.
He was even compared with Brazil's most famous player, Pele, due to a physical resemblance and the fact he plays at the club where Pele spent most of
his career.

The kidnapping occured 'shortly' after media reports that her son had been
linked to a lucrative deal with Real Madrid. Brazil is notorious for kidnappings by criminals in order to gain a large ransom.
