Interesting details emerging of an incident which occurred this week via The Black Vault:

An unidentified object hindered the flight of two Russian passenger planes over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan early on Wednesday, reported VOR.

The article goes onto mention that the object had not been cleared to be there. So now you're thinking top secret test or the "other" thing, right?

“This could have been a drone, a military plane or something else. This has yet to be determined. However, no one else except for the two passenger planes was supposed to be in that area,” the source said.

Edit: If this is a drone, should be grateful that it was picked up and avoided

Any descriptions of the craft in question? Surely if they assume it could be a drone then someone must have seen it to make that assumption...?

Doesn't say how it was detected: Radar? Visually?
Doesn't say who detected it: Traffic controllers? Pilots?

The incident is four days old at least, with no further information on it. It's unlikely that any more information will be forthcoming at this point. Although I would hardly say it "hindered" their flight as the article is saying. They simply had to alter course slightly to avoid it apparently.

What day was it that Snowden was in flight last week?

Just curious if there is a correlation, maybe? As to why a drone might be in the area of passenger planes? Drones are not deployed just for aggressive attacks, they have surveillance uses too, no?

The flight everyone said Snowden was on came across the Atlantic. This took place in the Sea of Japan, nowhere near his flight. Even if they were there because of him, they'd be more than useless, as there was no way to confirm he was on any plane, and they couldn't do much to stop the plane.

Ah, well. It was just a thought.

The first question that sprang to mind. Was Snowden leaving Russia on this particular day...
