Not buying it. Island dwarfism
is a fact. Many animals, like dwarf elephants on Crete, shrink
in size because of fewer resources.
The hobbits may have started like us, or a Homo erectus like ancestor, and then shrunk because of scarce resources. This does not imply a pathology,
but rather an adaptation to the environment.
