The Caltex terminal near Port Botany in Sydney's south will remain closed for the rest of the day as efforts continue to clean up a large fuel spill.

About 130,000 litres of unleaded fuel spilled from the Banksmeadow terminal overnight.

Great work to stop more unleaded fuel from coming out, but in the time where Sydney is seeing petrol prices from $1.59 > $1.79 /lt cannot help but think this will aid the rise (in their eyes - petrol companies) even further.

Great to see measures to prevent these things happening actually work. Possibility of losing 2million litres :O

Could've been a major disaster, especially the fumes lingering around the approach to Sydney airport.

Yeah my first thought was 3 days ago seeing on the news that fuel is going up 20 cents a litre in the next week. Back to Banana shortage and increased price hikes.

Well down in South Australia the "industry" was last week and this week talking of fuel prices hitting $1.70/L.
The prices vary across Australian cities and the outback greatly.
Around the middle of the week prices were hovering around 1.39/1.41/L..today they've jumped to nearly 1.60/L.

I think it was an independent politician or the RAA(local automobile association), basically pointed out that fuel should not be anywhere near 1.70 any time soon based on current trends and market supplies and all the rest of that stuff, and that basically the industry was mentally preparing people for the eventual increase, so they can sooner increase prices artificially and make bigger profits.

And this at time when one of the former bosses of the local electricity company that maintains all the infrastructure has come out and said that we are paying WAY too much for electricity and that prices are fixed artificially by the companies/industry to make bigger profits.

We are being ripped off left right and center. That's why it's important that at grass roots levels, the community start supporting the independent outlets for everything they consume!!
If we pour our money into these small independent operators, say supermarkets, corner store delis(the few left), independent service stations etc, then their businesses will be sustainable and able to cope with the pressure of the big corporations trying to muscle their way in and buy(force) them out.

It's the ONLY way.

Even accounting for exchange rates, AU$1.70/L is 10% cheaper than your kiwi cousins are paying at NZ$2.25/L

(even) codex is eventually designed to stop people growing their own food etc..

let them corner the market on physicality all they want..
