This forum-the Debate Forum, is frequented by some of the greatest minds on ATS. The time, energy and research we put into our debates set a standard for other members to emulate when they create threads on other areas of the site and how to conduct themselves in a respectful, yet assertive manner.

My respect goes to all of you that hold yourself to that higher standard.

An opportunity presents itself in which we can take the debate to a new level and a way that may help put more life into the ATS Debate forum....something we would all like to see.

Specifically, I'm talking about having debates on ATS Radio.

Eventually, this could be done live on air, but I think it would be best to do a pre-recorded show so that we could fine-tune everything before we take the step to being live.

So consider this your call to action!

What we need is for you to "sign up" in this thread if you are interested and to talk with your fellow members on topics you would like to debate. Or, if you like, challenge a member to a debate as well. We also need to discuss the actual format of the debate and how to structure them. Timing, how many responses.....etc.

Once we get enough people signed up we can begin to choose topics, finalize matches and produce the Debate show itself. We will be flexible with schedules and personal requests as long as they are not unreasonable.

So get involved! We need all the input we can get and we need to take our debates a step higher than ever before.

Use this thread to:

1.sign up for an ATS Radio debate
2. discuss topic ideas
3. discuss debate matches with other members
4. challenge other members to a debate

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope to see many members taking the opportunity to become part of something big!

That would be different!

Great suggestion, SS!

Let’s see how many takers there are and I might enter the Debate Arena once again.

I wish I could take credit for the idea, but it has been suggested by others. I'm just the man throwing the idea out there.

Hope we get some more interested members. You and I may have to have a rematch! I'm still a little salty about that loss in the socialism debate.

Based on the lack of responses to your thread I'd say we may be the only two people who would consider it.

I guess that's not surprising. Most prefer the safety of the 'pack' and aren't confident enough to go one on one in a debate. That's why the debate forum is full of the same dozen people debating each other on different issues over and over again.

Talk about putting your money where your mouth is!

And yes, I am an opinionated l'il bunny.

Since I have never actually frickin' won a debate
might as well try this venue.

Well there you go. We have made the first step to an outstanding debate show.

Seabag Vs. Beezer: Who can grow the fastest beard!

You may win this one bunny!

Never fear. This thread and concept will gain momentum and we will git er done.

Topic ideas?

Something current, something topical.

Like, "Is television a passing fad or will it gain hold in the social fabric?"

That's not fair for Beez!! I'm undefeated!!

We'll see how it shakes out. It would have to be structured like the debate forum with points and rules. If there isn't a winner and loser then I don't want to play. If I wanted to argue just for the sake of arguing and have no chance of winning then I'd just shut the computer off and go ask my wife if she gained weight.

Now that's a debate! My wife may throw something at me if I asked that!

Of course there would be winners and losers, Seabag. A debate would be pointless if we didn't crown a winner. Perhaps we could have the audience vote in the show thread, or I could make a decision myself in a completely biased and uninformed manner.

To get the members involved though, I think they should decide and maybe the mods can add debate points to existing debate forum rankings. OR...we could start a new point system in which the points are only good if you have the juevos to debate on the show.

Everyone...please throw in your input.

Well, remember, the current debate forum had 'draws' until I pitched a fit like a baby. Fortunately you and others backed me and the mods gave us a tie-breaker third judge.

And I'd have no problem with you judging. I still have your pay pal account on file.

I agree.

Especially about the beard part.

This'll take some doing.

Congratulations to Seabag for winning the first debate....that has yet to occur.

Damn paypal!

So we have signed up so far:

Seabag
Beezer

Topics:

Is television a passing fad or will it gain hold in the social fabric?

My opinion is that it will not take much to get this organised and running. No offense to the Mods, if they are busy we can run this ourselves and post a thread with points and rankings.

Not trying to step on toes...but we gonna do this!

I'm in, though I don't think I'll be able to present much of a vocal argument... I tend to rely on baffling judges with my wordy prose, lol.

Maybe we can have debate teams, like a panel on one side, panel on the other.

GOOD!!!

Based on your debate performances, we'll all need a handicap going against you!

YAY!! I just wrote a thread about this a month ago, and of course no one responded

I LOVE this idea! So I would like to throw my hat in the ring for this one

Heads up, I can only do this when weather permits due to satellite internet.

Peace, NRE.

Thanks

Oh I have tons of ideas. I love Beezers idea of a panel, but it might be hard to get a few members at a time like that till this jumps off.

But as far as individual debates it can be similar to the ones we do here now, you can link to the show topic, and have votes/opinions about the debate from the show, which of course will bring more listeners, but also announce winner during the beginning of the next show as well, with a few of the "anonymous" comments from the thread.

Also a little award show and re-match would be great. We can have returning champs, go against who they choose after a certain number of wins as well. And maybe a mega champ at the end of the year.

Sorry if I went off on a rant here
my love for some sports (boxing) and promotion work got the best of me.

Peace, NRE.

Oh yeah, you can also do a "best of" show. As I am sure you know there will truly be some classic things said on air, and it would be great to hear them all in one segment.

If you keep one main thread just for the winners and their topics, members can come in and see who they think they can match with best based on their responses as long as the link to the show is under everyone's win.

Since (I am assuming) you will be hoping for members that are also out of the debate forum loop so that they can enter, they can make sure that they let you guys know whether they want only "on air" debates.

Ok thats it

Believe me I could be here all day adding to this.

Peace, NRE.

Please add all you like!

We need to figure out how we want to do this that works best for all members.

This may start as a one/two debate show and then after we get the first show done, people can listen in and decide if they are up to the challenge.

Once we get some more input.....we can finalize rules etc and everyone is welcome to be part of that process.
