Who do you think would have Won?

I just thought I would post this up for some fun friendly debate. It is something I have often wondered ever since these two men came onto the big screen.

If we were to go back 25 years and put Steven Seagal and Claude Van Damme both in a legitimate fight ring, who would come out the winner? I say 25 years ago just so we have them both in pretty good shape for this match up, and im talking a true match, not one just for show.

Whatcha think? Who's going to walk away?

They both of different styles of fighting, different training, different levels.

Segal is up close lots of knees short jabs, grab moves....Van Damme is a Karate fighter with more power in his legs.


I'm going with Van Damme on this one but my husband says Segal.

Segal's fights aren't fights really. He waits for his opponent to make the first move then destroys them. The Hollywood movie fights are just that: Hollywood.

I have never seen a range fighter (someone who uses kicking) beat a grappler. Just look at the Gracie family.

I reckon that Chuck Norris would have jumped in and punched both of their lights out for the night with just a simple flick of his index finger

So... in a fight between a man who performed sex acts on himself in a gay porn movie in the seventies (JCVD), and a man who has been accused of spousal abuse, and may have fabricated elements of his life, including a hinted at CIA history, who would win?

I think a better question would be, who would you rather try to beat the crap out of? Personally, I would go for JCVD. I have watched virtually all of JCVDs action films, and all of Segals also. Of the two, JCVD appears to be the slower . His every move has a tell, and most of the really big tricks in his bag have a fair sized wind up. Where as, Segal's movements during action sequences are precise, efficient, deceptively quick. One of the things that make his moves efficient is that they look slower than they are, and contain an element of misdirection.

He is the more technically qualified martial artist, in terms of how many ways he can kick a butt, therefore, I would rather go a couple of rounds with JCVD.

If both guys had a noggins of sense to share between them, one of them would have done this :

Don't like either of them, personally, but given the parameters of the "what if", I'd say Seagal pretty confidently. He'd wait for JCVD's first attack, cripple his legs, then beat him to a pulp. I think JCVD would get in a few good punch shots, but given Seagal's style of fighting, I have to think a close fighter like him is going to own JCVD. Seagal also fights dirty, and is great at improvised weapons.

Van Damme! Segal looked like a bully!

Segal ran away from the fight proposal anyway!

JCVD has to always pause to make some really weird face....Seagal would use that time to punch him like 5 times.

I just wish they could have beaten each other death and been rid of them both I hate this genre of movies!
