The spirit of this holiday is always far better than the actuality. It seems our independence is in transit and although nobody is truly independent, I hope that a spark of cantankerous "eff u" to power remains.

This holiday has always been, to me, less about Great Britain and more about standing up for the little guy. The empty patriotism and jingoism be damned.
