Long John Silver's Big Catch has been named America's worst meal according to Center for Science in the Public Interest.

Coming in at a whopping 1,320 calories, and with more trans fats than you should eat in two weeks, Long John Silver's Big Catch has been declared the "Worst Restaurant Meal in America" by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI).

The calories are the least of my concerns with this meal. Just take a look at the sodium content...

In addition to high caloric content, it had 19 grams of saturated fat, almost 3,700 milligrams of sodium and 33 grams of trans fats. The meal includes fried fish, hush puppies and a side of onion rings.

According to the Mayo Clinic a healthy adult should limit his/her intake of sodium to 2,300mg per day or 1,500mg if you are 51 or older, suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes or kidney disease.

Mayo Clinic

Folks, this meal alone contains almost twice the amount of sodium that you should be consuming per day couple this with the 19 grams of saturated fat, and I think they are correct in their conclusion that this is the worst meal in America.

Now before I am labeled a communist or a socialist, let me just say that I think people should eat whatever they please. It's their bodies and not mine. However I think we should be investing more in educational programs about eating healthy and making the right choices when it comes to our diet.

I honestly believe that fast food chains that sell this stuff are a bigger threat to the well being of the American public than any kind of assault rifle or the 200 million guns out there.

lol Big Catch I think "Deadliest Catch" is more fitting of a name for this meal.

Read the article............ Long John blah blah is just an American Copy of the old British Fish and Chips takeaway.....

A battered fish with chips, although you Yanks like to toss a couple of onion rings in and try and claim it's your onw.......YAWN

In reality, eaten everyday, then this type of food will clogg you up however eaten irregulary then there is nothing wrong...

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION people.....

If we believe everything we are told then we should all be sucking on a carrot or piece of lettuce whilst whistling our national anthems............ in the real world, enjoy food but eat sensibly and deny some cock-sure journalist the pleasure of trying to control our lives....

I don't think the article comes off as controlling. I think this study is helpful advice and let's people know about what they are eating when they eat at places like this, and hopefully that will make them think twice or cut down the number of times they eat at establishments that serve this kind of food.

Seriously though you would be better off pouring a bottle of salt down your throat than eating this, it will spare you the saturated fats.

mmm.. I love LJS..

i havent had it in awhile, so apparently i can binge a few days a month and be good to go, I want my insides lubed up anyway.

one of my favorite fast foodies. KFC used to be my fav but none of them serve baked beans anymore.. they wont get another penny from me.

gotta go find one near me..

i usually went to Long John once a week when i was 20's. i would order 2 big meals and some sides. pig out and the next day when i hit the gym, I had all day pickup game energy..after 45 min card and 2hrs weights.

In my 20's I could drink until the morning light sleep a few hours and do it all over again. Sad that my body don't work like it used to...

I love Long John Silvers. It is one of my favorite guilty pleasures.

In moderation, usually about once a month, I'll gorge myself on their food. It is DELICIOUS. The batter they use makes pretty much everything they coat with it -- fish, chicken, onion rings -- turn out scrumptiously good.

The first lady tried to do this remember? And look what happened they cried she is trying to tell us how to raise our kids!!! It never dawned on these people that she just doesn't want their fat little tubs of lard to not have a heart attack by time they are twenty.

Eh not really, if you eat that many grams of sodium and fat in a single meal, to not cause health concerns, you'd basically have to eat nothing for the rest of the two week period. Eating that meal is unhealthy.

How can you possibly say moderation? Did you even read the numbers involved? That's beyond moderation, that's crazy. The real crazy part though, is most people would agree with you. "Oh, I can eat that once or twice a month and be fine!" Sure, you'll be fine for the immediate future, because you can't instantly see the damages being done to your body.

If you eat that meal "once and awhile" and don't carefully monitor your intake for every other meal, you will NOT be fine. That's a plate of organ issues, skin issues, and heart disease.

But here's the freedom loving part of me. I believe everyone should be able to go buy that if they so choose, because, it's natural selection at work.

It will make them fat and lethargic for one, and those people tend to use those motor carts while shopping so there's always the comedy factor of watching them try to reach items instead of standing up for 3 and a half seconds.

It will create untold numbers of problems with their kidneys and heart. It will clog up their arteries and make the males unable to achieve an erection, meaning declining numbers, which is fine by me, again, it's natural selection at work.

And those who still wish to partake in some sticky naughty fun, do so by taking drugs that stress the heart, a bloated cholesterol clogged heart just on the edge of failure. Again, natural selection.

And the most important part.... those types of people rarely eat unprocessed "food" so I won't be stuck waiting behind them in line at the farm or farmers market.

Win win win really.

That douche Jamie Oliver tried it too, wow that was some funny TV right there.

Think about the quality of food being fed to kids via school lunch and breakfast programs. If you don't know, check out that food revolution show, and remember that's only the stuff they cleared to air. Long story short, we'd be better off feeding them cardboard and ditch water. Now consider their lazy parents stuffing their faces with LJS or McDees every night because they are too tired to cook and it's "too expensive" not to buy crap.

and........ you have the exact obesity epidemic the US is suffering right now. Fat little kids who really never had a chance, their food is processed crap that is high in calories, usually much more than a whole days worth, as well as sodium and preservatives. They wash it down with sugared milk or softdrinks, then sit on their asses playing xbox.

There is a reaction in the body that doesn't take place when you eat those high calorie processed foods. Your brain doesn't send the message that you are full, but you should be, because you've already eaten enough calories for the whole week. And with kids specifically you've got basically an addiction response, eating fast food like McDonalds actually gives them a similar high that other addictions provide.

Ha ha ha ha

I hear you on this and yes you are right to make the points you did but remember that we are not all the same.

Some people have a higher metabolism, some people have stronger hearts, some have cast iron livers able to de-tox everything whilst others have to be careful because of hereditary issues.......

Eating Fish and chips (as per battered etc) once in a ''blue moon'' will not kill you..in fact the human body is designed to embrace many different food types and in varying quantities.......... Hydration with water after or during may allieveiate some of the sodium but for you to TELL people it is bad is really taking away their freedom of choice........... something which people are becoming more resistant to ...........

To win the battle of education you first have to allow some ''flexibility'' and not demand or condemn people for eating this type of food......

Let people live and make their own informed choices and not ''tell them off'' if they dont agree...
