You cannot expect the common individual to understand our history when we do not teach them. To be honest every holiday and event we celebrate by consumerism and commercialism. No wonder people see memorial day, labor day, etc as events to BBQ and not reflect the sacrifices of people.

I say if anyone would like to celebrate learn our history. Don't just party and be lazy.

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

WOW!!! This is unreal how incredibly stupid people actually are!! Even when the answer is given to them, they can't answer the question!!

Jesse Ventura was one of the founding fathers, huh?
.....My god people are stupid!!

People need a drama or reality tv show to give them the answer......WOW I am just about speechless watching this!!

The 4th of July is a simple Holiday with a simple meaning to me.

It's about this........

It's about the real America that forms our nation and people. It's not about political speeches or the few thousand out of hundreds of millions that form the Political and Scumbaggery class of our land. It's about those hundreds of millions who have spirit and character and drive to do and see better.

That's my two cents.

Not watched the videa, but I'm guessing it's been edited - so if they asked 1,000 people and 10 gave daft or ignorant answers, we see those 10 and not the others?

It's not likely in any way representative of the US population as a whole. Is it ....?

I swear at the beginning it sounds like he is saying " 1976 " instead of 1776. Anyone else hear this?
Will add more.

O I see this was completely made to be giving out false info and see if anyone corrects them. But if they almost all are drinking, so most aren't going to know what he's going on about.

It was a very one sided video, I mean you stand on one pier in either FL or CA and talk about false info but looking for others, most young people will look at you like you're doing a comedy skit.

I do agree with many Americans not knowing much about their history, but the video is a bad taste way of saying it.

Since many Americans would rather play video games I would Suggest the Game Assassin's Creed 3 takes place during the American Revolution

Well i gove you that. Then again he found 10people, probably on the same day.

I grew up far away from the US, english is my third language, never set foot on US soil but i still would have known the correct answer to the questions what, when and who from.

I hope if you ask all americans the results would get a bit better, but still if i watch fox news, i believe the numbers of people who have no clue are massive.
And all these folks have the right to vote...

I watched The Patriot just once. I still can't make up my mind if it was supposed to be a comedy film or just a complete work of fiction.
Maybe someone can answer the question for me.

Oh, and the same goes for Braveheart.

As everyone in Britain knows, the 4th of July celebrates the day when the civilised world told the religious nutters who'd prevously sailed off to the 'new world' that frankly we'd had enough of them trying to make tea using cold seawater, so henceforth they were on their own .......

Fictionalized history. Sort of has the same meaning as "based on a true story...."

I have no problems believing that. Most Americans are uneducated, ignorant, and blissfully unaware of anything except the latest celebrity scandal. Its rarely taught anymore in school in a correct manner. I was shocked at my daughters lack of knowledge after her graduation, and even the teaching in her school. A huge, get them in get them out mentality.

Exactly! What fun would it be if they showed a video with intelligent people answering a simple question correctly?

It's like the gallup poll when they say most of the population feels a certain way. It's generally nonsense because they typically poll maybe a thousand people or even fewer. When there are 100 million adults in America the opinion of 1,000 or so is hardly a fair assessment of how the average person feels.

That being said the video is still pretty funny.

Yes, this guy asked a bunch of people, then edited out the ones that gave real answers.

I could do the same with TEA Party people and edit out the ones that don't sound like raving rabid lunatics.

There are a number of recognition days that cause small cracks in our national observances...

Memorial Day - Here we recognize those who died defending liberty and this nation. Some people prefer solemn behavior, others enjoy outings and cook outs. My preference is to exercise those rights they died for... I can think of no better way to honor the sacrifice.

As for July 4th? Independence Day? How do we recognize those Founding fathers who fought for that independence? How do we celebrate being the nation that we are? Well, as we are all individuals and there is no law that says we cannot think as independently as those founding fathers... it all comes down to personal opinion.

There was a well known American writer from Missouri who once said that American politics was more like a tavern brawl than a gathering of learned statesmen.

Guess that pretty much defines us all
