"Hey guys, we're all straight!"

"That is so awesome!"

Yeah, I'm no sure what the point of that will be. How will straight people have this parade? What to wear, just normal everyday clothes? What will be the accomplishments and goals for the "straight" agenda?

Parades are boring dude no matter who is celebrating!

But seen as how this is only 'virtual', I will only be 'virtually' bored. Matter of fact, I could sleep right through it and still say I marched with the best of them.

Of course I never knew where I stuck my junk was cause for celebration but I'm down with the festivities. Will there be door prizes for the best float?

Replace the word straight with the word gay and you've pretty much pegged the accomplishments of gay pride parades.

So, I guess I'm not really getting your point here.

Seriously? You are claiming pride parades have accomplished nothing?

It was never illegal to be straight. It wasn't illegal to get married if you were straight. It wasn't hard to find a job just because you were straight, and a person wasn't killed just for being straight.

Gay people are celebrating these things they've overcome as a group.

I don't see the point of a straight parade, unless they had less freedoms just for being straight (marriage, job, etc.) and wanted to overcome them.

What's the point of a gay parade? Yes, they like gay sex. Big deal. I just don't get it at all. Why do they have to dress up? (or dress down would be more appropriate) Gay people wear regular clothes like everyone else so why do they have to turn a celebration into a borderline soft porn show? I'll tell you why.

Because they want to force their sexuality onto the public. They're saying "See, we're queer and we can act as lewd as we like cause there's not a thing you can do about it" "We want to shock you into accepting what we do behind closed doors out here in the street" "We want you to bring your kids to the show and expose them to the leather harnesses and dog collars which is typically reserved for gay clubs where minors are not allowed" "We want to expose our breasts and wear our shorty pants and make all the heteros gasp" "We want to say FU! We're GAY and here to STAY"

So meanwhile, they tell the homophobes, "There's nothing to be afraid of" Quite the contradictory message they send. Don't be scared of homosexuals, we're people too. But hang on while I whip out this dildo water gun and spray the crowd as I get my boyfriend to write munch on my back with an arrow pointing down.

The entire event is childish.

I already explained some of the reasons for the gay parade. At one point it was illegal to be gay and gay people were killed just for being gay. Gay people are celebrating overcoming their troubles. Straight people had no such troubles.

If people want to have a straight parade, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to. That is freedom of expression. It is just my opinion that it is pointless for the reasons that I've already mentioned.

I don't know about door prizes but just think of the virtual memories and your virtual friends. Maybe if I can find a sponsor we'll have some door prizes.

This is North America. Gay people aren't killed here or thrown in jail. If you would like to go down that road then I think black people deserve a parade more than gay people do. So where's their parade? They're the ones who really deserve one.

That has not always been the case. Even today some gay people are killed due to hate crimes.

It doesn't have to be an either-or situation. They can both have parades. Also there may be gay black people and then they can be a part of either or both.

A hate crime is a hate crime. The same people killing a homosexual are the same ones killing a black, a Jew, or take your pick. This argument doesn't make their cause anymore worthy of a parade than other minorities.

It all comes down to acceptance. The whole point behind gay pride is to desensitize the public so they need not be afraid. My son does this when he cranks death metal music in the hopes of exposing it to me enough thinking I will eventually like it. It doesn't work.

They can have their parade. Just keep their clothes on and act civilized. That's all. It is of my opinion they are hurting their cause more than helping it.

haha really? Are you calling me gay? That's hilarious. Stick to your day job and don't charge people for your pseudo psychoanalysis. Besides, there's one major flaw in your psycho babel. I'm not a homophobe. So much for that then eh? Sweetie.

The pride parades are a celebration of pride, until you walk in our shoes, or are part of the pride events, you are making assumptions based on personal opinions and misconceived propaganda

i thought this topic was for a 'virtual Straight Pride Parade' not taking about the supposed reasons behind gay pride parades

I wasn't, but why should it be funny? Lots of people are – including many who insist that they are too heterosexual to even consider the possibility.

Tere's one major flaw in your psycho babel. I'm not a homophobe.

You mean you have another reason for making homophobic statements like the one I quoted earlier? Why not share it and enlighten us?

Care to tell me what was homophobic about it? Dude, or dudette, have you ever actually watched a pride parade? If not then I urge you to just google it and select images at the top. I would post them here but I would get reprimanded for breaking ATS T&C. That's got to tell you something then.

If i'm wrong, I'm not an unreasonable guy. Please someone explain why the pride parade is one step away from an orgy fest. How does that help your cause? I really really don't get it.

You're right, I am getting off topic a tad. Consider it a sub topic. However, I live in the west end of Vancouver. The gayest neighborhood in Canada. When I got here 10 years ago I saw the parade for the first time and I can tell you I wasn't impressed at all. I saw things being done which would normally get you arrested. So in part, yes my personal opinion is based on that aspect.

I've watched Gay Pride events live as well as on television. Frankly, I find WWF more offensive.

Please someone explain why the pride parade is one step away from an orgy fest.

There you go again.

Two words: political theatre.

Not such an... exciting way of looking at it, I must admit.
