Donald Rumsfeld is qutoed as having said that "the operation in Fallujah will take time". As to whether or not Fallujah will be a showdown Rumsfeld would not say.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said the operation launched to take the Iraqi city of Fallujah would "take time" but US-Iraqi forces would see it through to the end.

At a Pentagon (news - web sites) news conference, Rumsfeld shied away from a question whether the operation in Fallujah would be a "final showdown" and said that insurgents holed up in the city were determined to resist.

Other U.S. sources say that in time the tipping will begin to take place as Residents of Iraq grow tired of innocent people being killed.
