The similarity of Batmans methods in catching the joker to PRISM

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but I just coudlnt believe the similarities, when compared with current events. In the Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne created a system using a load of television screens and other equipment to pick up phone calls and communications that mentioned the Joker, and got Lucius Fox( Morgan Freeman to man the controls). Fox then said that he would refuse to do it as it was ethically incorrect to do so. Batman then told Lucius that his name was the password to destroy it as it was only in desperation, to catch the fiend known as the joker that he turned to such invasive technology. Freeman then agreed to do this this once.

Snowden has blown the whistle on the very same system being used on the worlds people to locate and identify threatening people. At the time, nobody seemed to give Batman a hard rap, as he had his own little version of PRISM. He deemed himself to be enough of an authority to implement PRISM, to use ti for defence. the only differences between him and the NSA is that A: He had it destroyed immediatly, and B; He actually used it to catch a demonic terrorist.

In the movie, he was in dire straights, Gotham city was about to be sacked by one man and he turned to this technology. The climate of fear and terror in the world today, is hardly at similar levels in the first world today, so in my opinion, the yanks have let their paranoia get the better of them with PRISM and went too far.

If they felt they needed such tech, they should have just went to the people with a case for it and had a referendum and never went the fascist route.

I believe that people are fundamentally good and most guys in the NSA like anywhere are there to do a good job. In this case, protect their people. They just misjudged how they should have approached it, and went to far with it.

Any countries that they are at war with though, this tech should be fair game, but not their own people for christs sake.

You seem to be giving the government the benefit of the doubt, which is not a bad thing.

There is already long established process in place. It has to do with probable cause and obtaining a warrant.

The problem in this legal procedure is that it requires oversight. Meaning that the government's actions would be exposed to some other entity which would review their activities.

We can only assume that the reason they went the "fascist" route is because they dont want any oversight, why? Because they're engaged in much more than simply trying to "catch bad guys". Its clear that they want to operate in complete secrecy circumventing the rule of law.

The phrase "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear", clearly doesnt apply to government.

Slaves arent entitled to privacy.

You really should add *spoiler alert* at the top of your post because that kinda stamps on the movies main premise.

I do agree with you though, it would be far better eaccepted if they were to have "come clean" before they got dirty. However some new technologys, the people should have a choice, but if they do not understand the tech are they really the right people to say if they need it or not?

Thrers a fine line between being 'fair to alll, and 'doing whats best'.
