The statement was made because of you saying you didn't need to read the OP.

It's not 1500 years old.

i've read... for now I have to meditate on this.

You raised my doubt's on praying to Mary... I read the other thread you posted and it had some logical arguments about praying Hail Mary... it was interesting ... but I should ask you .. do you pray Hail Mary? Why?

It was interesting to know how the Jesuits pray... the meditation part (stay in silence. reviewing the Life of Jesus).

thanks for this, it's a nice thread

No, I do not pray the Hail Mary. I did as a child because I was forced to pray the rosary, however, even then I sensed ill-ease at many of the ritual tenets of the doctrine I was being taught. I spoke with God in my mind and would come to Him with a truly sorrowful heart when I had done wrong.
We are told in the Bible that God's people hear His voice and a stranger they will not follow.
We are also told that the new covenant that was to be made will be His Law written in our hearts and on our minds.

I hated going to confession because it felt like I was simply spiritual cattle being milled through with the herd, sitting in a tiny room with a man that was not family nor close friend, nor knew nothing personal about me other than the wretched things I had done since the last time I had to sit before him mentally and emotionally naked. I was a child for God's sake, yes I was old enough to know wrong from right but even then I felt appalled that another human being was telling me how many Our Father's and Hail Mary's I had to pray that equated to atoning for my wrongs and penance for forgiveness. That is so obscenely wrong and not Biblically sound.

I remember not wanting to take communion if my Mammaw and Pappaw weren't allowed to take it also, simply because they went to a different church. I knew in my soul, that was just wrong, wrong, wrong! The Body of Christ is the Body of Christ, and all those who love and claim Him should be given the opportunity to share in the sacred remembrance of His death on behalf of ours.

Jesus said: "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."

It would appear that you are calling Him a liar.

Also, if you are hearing trumpets, have you considered that you might have Tinnitus?

Modern medicine can help.

You of all people should be aware that I was speaking figuratively, based on scripture:

"Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour." 1 John 2:18

"Blow a trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, For the day of the LORD is coming; Surely it is near, "Joel 2:1

"And I set watchmen over you, saying, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!' But they said, 'We will not listen.' Jeremiah 6:7

'He heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have delivered his life." Ezekiel 33:5

"but that in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled, just as he announced to his servants the prophets. "Rev 10:7

Accuse me of blasphemy against our Lord and jump on the bandwagon of e'rebody hatin' on the trumpets?

I'm disappointed Cronaut, I truly expected more integrity.

I stand by my integrity.

Jesus message was transformational and positive.

The doom porn view of of the world expects you to believe that God will punish us in to loving Him. Think about how ridiculous a concept that is. To build such an edifice around such a messed up idea as that is definitely not Christian.

We Christians are the adopted children and heirs of God!

We have been the most populous group on the Earth for 1,500 years. In this age of democracy and people power, we ARE the power.

It's about time we started living like that.

The doom porn view of Christianity has kept us passively waiting for His return. It is not Kingdom building.

I will make this world better if I can. His Kingdom come, on Earth as it is in Heaven!

Luke 17:21

That the tribulation will drive people to accept God (call upon His name), or reject Him.

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

I guess infiltration, incursion, artifice, duplicity, machination and subterfuge are several other terms of engagement which are lost upon you as well.

Um, those scriptures, the ones I put in my reply, yeah, those were outta the Bible too. When you read the whole thing, like from cover to cover, you see that God ain't so warm and fuzzy during times of His judgment.

In case you haven't noticed, everything ain't really comin' up roses around the planet right now. For crying out loud, there are even unprecedented storms taking place on other planets in the solar system.

The image of ultra-groovy-feel-good Jesus is just that, a plastic image. Jesus Himself said:

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. " (Matthew 10:35)

I was under the impression that you were a Believer. If so, then you necessarily believe that Jesus is returning. And He isn't returning as a meek Servant, ooooohhhhh nooooooo, the King of kings and Lord of lords is bringin' the thunder with Him this time. For God to be just, there must necessarily be retribution for wrong. For God to have patience, that means He suffers through circumstances in which it is tried. For God to be merciful, that means that God has to provide every opportunity for His creation to reconcile itself without incurring reciprocating judgment.

I'm not seeing us reconciling our depraved condition any time in the near future before we destroy ourselves altogether. God is God and we are not. We can either believe the Bible and search the scriptures to work out our salvation in fear and trembling (that's in the Bible too), or we can sit around arguing about it or just disregard it altogether. See, that's one of the incredibly merciful yet harrowingly grievous things about giving your creation the free will to choose to believe you or not. You gotta stick by it, whether they choose you or not.

That's pretty absurd. Revelation states several times that the judgments don't convert anyone but instead the people continue to curse God after each one.

What Bible are you reading?

I'm reading from a Bible that has a few very brief and confusing verses that some have taken to mean there will be a rapture.

Where the majority of "end times" interpretations relate to only the end of the book of Daniel, Matthew 24 taken out of historical context and the book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ (just look at the title and read it in reference to that and you'll see it can be interpreted differently).

When we stand before the Judgement, it is NOT the end times. It is the beginning of eternity.

In previous centuries the verses in Daniel and Revelation were not seen in a negative light but were seen as triumphant.

Do a little research into Preterism and Dispensationalism. Note that one of the first preterists was Eusebius of Caesarea in approx 270 AD. The first noted Dispensationalist was John Nelson Darby after 1800. This means that for more than 1,800 years, the Christian church was predominately Preterist. The dispensational futurist view is an artefact of the last 200 years.

You know that because of what Jesus said in Matthew 24, the majority of early Christians (before they were even called that) escaped from Jerusalem before it was besieged and destroyed. He gave them, what they understood was a clear warning, and they understood it, took His advice and lived. Not so the approx 1.5 million Jewish inhabitants that were slaughtered.

I never said anything about a rapture. Personally, I don't believe any of us are gettin' outta here before the galactic turd starts to hit the fan, so you may want to dress accordingly. You might want to start by filling up any empty oil lamps.

Would you care to know why for numerous centuries the church was preterist? That was the error of Origen then Augustine and Martin Luther never addressed eschatology just kept the Catholic version.

Been hearing about the end of times since I was a kid. I'm 55 and still here. There is always someone claiming they know the truth of the last hour and their date comes and goes and life carries on.

Well, you should ignore the date setters. You can guarantee that when a dude sets a date it will certainly not happen on that date. We were given the signs to look for to know it's drawing near, but who really knows how long the "last days" season truly is. Could it be 60 years, 75? 100? 400? No idea. But at the same time, those inclined to watch for the signs can see that that time is rapidly approaching. They players are almost aligned in the middle east.

Nice try.

Excuse me, I have to go ask Mary to pray for you.

It appears that each generation believes that the signs are there and the end is near.

Not really. That was true in Paul's day, but since Origen and Augustine the primary eschatological position of the church was Preterism.
