This didn't happen until your dad passed?

Well then... I think it is him trying to make contact with you.
Just you saying you had a "feeling" it was related to his passing is also a clue. Call it women's intuition, psychic ability, or whatever. But, usually, what we "feel" is a GREAT clue.

Your dad is checking in on you, maybe closing the door so you can sleep peacefully. Did he do that when you were little?

Just tell him you like the door to remain open, and if he is trying to get your attention to let you know he is okay, or needs to communicate, to do it another way. You can also ask him to come meet you on the astral plane while you sleep, if he has a message.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Rochester, Yes, I have had this happen to me as well. It was about 20 years ago and in a new dwelling so not figuring ghosts/haunting as cause. What it was is this, I used to always close the bathroom door at nite that was adjacent to our master bedroom. Odd thing started happening for a while...I'd wake up and the bathroom door would be open but the bedroom door would be shut instead. This happened a few nites now and then and then stopped.
It was very disconcerting. Hubby sleeps like a rock so I know it wasn't him..even asked him about it.

Another thing that has happened to me more than once, in the middle of the nite, I would hear 3 knocks on the front door. I'd get up, put on porch lite and no one would be there. We had a very, very long concrete drive way and no cars or people would be there. We lived way out in the woods/country and it was doubtful anyone was coming all the way to our isolated place to prank or whatnot.. I'd take my 45 side arm and check the yard and area and never saw anyone or anything.

Other "odd" thing...just before we moved from that property, the nite before, I heard scratching at our front door...sounded just like what our large dog used to do when she wanted in or attention. She had to be put down months before so that freaked me out. I checked right away...no animals on the porch or in the yard at all Did she visit us in spirit to say good bye?.

I have had the door knocking dealy happen just about every place I ever lived at with same result....even husband heard the knocks at times....weird.

One time, late at nite, our entire living room lit up like day...a brite flash...we both saw it. Got up and checked...no lights in the house had been left on to blow out, no transformer near our place, no lightning storm...never did figure out what that was. Take care, regards. J.

Reasons why the door might be closing on its own:
1. Hinges need to be changed
2. House is not level - even more than last time your engineer husband checked
3. Floor boards are off level
4. Your bedroom is on unstable land, might even be a sinkhole developing
5. Air conditioner vents changed angle and they are causing the draft to close the door when you turn the A/C on
6. GHOST or paranormal activity (which I totally doubt because of the age of the house)

Question: If it turns out to be a ghost or a shadow closing the door and ringing the bell, will you move or coexist?

Old house temprature changes causes wood to expand and contract.Lived in a farm house growing up we had one door that would open and one close by itself. Didnt happen all the time conditions had to be right youll eventually figure out the pattern Im betting humidity is causing it but could bee certain temperatures creating airflow as well.what i mean is having a fan going in our living room made the door slam.

If the door is only closing I would first look at normal reasons this could be happening. Even though the house has settled all the expanding and contractiong of the wood over the year could have recently altered something. I grew up in an old house in the Midwest where I had several different unusual experiences. My bedroom door would both open and close at different speeds and with no draft or pressure change. It was unsettling. I preferred my door closed so I just started locking it at night and that took care of it. I would say see what you get on the camera and use a door stop to keep it open. If it is a spirit it hasn't done anything violent, it may just want attention. I would also firmly address the spirit while in your room and say that this is your house and not to close the door again.

Considering all details and having had so many things happen to me that no one could possibly clear away as "house settling" or whatever. Due to the recent death I am convinced your Father wants you to know he is not gone as in totally gone. I would think that what I did speaking out loud at a place that had meaning to you both will give him the knowledge that you understand and he can move on.

I know it may not sound the same to you, but my kitty friend who lived with me 20 years died a really painful death. I felt very guilty along with my pain of loss because I had not taken her in to be put down and when she got so bad I could get no one to help her. I had to help her myself. The area of the garden where she died I did not touch for two years. I then went out one day and started weeding there and I started crying and remembering and I told her how sorry I was.

Suddenly on this warm day my breath started rising in clouds...I stood up and I laughed out loud and my breath just billowed up in fog like it was below zero. I said "kitty!" and it stopped instantly and I felt this feeling like she forgave me and did not hold the pain I put her through against me.

There is no explaining what happened I don't care who tries there simply is not an explanation other then beyond what we call natural.

Thank You,

I really only wanted advice on what could be creating this and why all of a sudden this happened this past week.

As I said in the OP - the only "spirit" i have ever known to close doors is my Father shortly after he died - and that did not happen in my house - it happened in his when I was staying in his house.

I can't explain why this started this week and was only looking for guidance from the community.

I suppose I will never know, as is the case with many mysteries in my house.

Best to you,

Rochester

I have had the same thing, well almost, happen to me, and much more I'd like to share with you and how I put a stop to the activities.

I lived in my grandmother's house in the mid-west for many years. It was built in 1865, had three stories, a full attic, and dirt basement. It is on the National Historic Register. My entire childhood was spent in that house, and never did I, nor my grandparents experience any paranormal activity, except for other family members. Most of my cousins were terrified to sleep there for various things that happened to them, including my sister. My grandmother spent many long years after my grandfather died alone in that house and used to laugh when people said it was haunted. She simply refused to believe it.

When she passed on, and I took over the house, only then did I start to experience little things here and there. The first thing that happened one day; I was getting ready to cut my bangs, the phone rang and I laid the scissors on the sink and walked away. I came back, scissors were gone. They stayed gone for two weeks to the day, and reappeared on the sink exactly where I left them.

Second experience, I came home from work and found a very old antique looking letter opener laying on the coffee table in one of the living rooms. It truly freaked me out as I had never seen it before. I took it to an antique dealer who said it was from the 1900's. He wanted to buy it but I took it home with me. I decided to keep it outside on a tree stump, because it's materialization scared me.

Third experience, I was talking on the phone in my bedroom at 3 am one night with my fiance. Suddenly, I hear a noise, look over, and see the door knob turn and the door popped open on it's own. I laughed at first, I think out of nervousness or surprise. You have to understand, I know you will, it was a very old wooden door that would swell up in the summer time, and you would have to force close it or force open it. It would stick in the door frame. So something, did push it open.

Fourth experience, My sister and her husband came to stay for a week. Her husband woke up at 2 am and said he couldn't sleep. I was on the phone again at the time, so I gave him an extra blanket and he was on his way. About an hour later I hear him running up the stairs in a panic and he told me with huge eyes, he heard something being dragged across the floor nearby him. He said it was quite loud and he could hear foot steps going by him. He was so afraid to stay in the house, he flew back home and left my sister for the remainder of that visit.

Fifth experience, I was cooking dinner and I kept feeling like I was being watched. My back was to the door as I was at the stove. I heard a scuffle noise, I snapped my head around and bam, the broom fell over and scooted across the floor toward me. This was pretty much the breaking point.

Sixth experience, I kept hearing violins, like a wafting sound on the air that would come and go. The sound was coming from one of the living rooms. I went outside to investigate and found nothing, hoping it was a neighbor. Came back inside and sat down to do bills and heard a woman weeping. It was coming from the stair case in the foyer. Instinctually I said "I'ts okay, don't cry. Everything will be fine", and the weeping stopped, followed by more violins.

I decided to start doing more digging about the history of the house. I had a basic knowledge of who built it, but I felt there was much much more. I found out that the family had a daughter who was 17 and engaged to be married to a man who went to fight in WW I. She waited and waited for his return then found out he had died. She lived the rest of her life without marrying and died in the house from TB at age 27. So the weeping I am sure was coming from her. There were many dinner parties with a lot of important people that ran the town, such as the mayor that would dine there often with this family so I'm guessing that is why I heard the violins play.

My last experience in the house before I moved away truly made me break down and cry. My cousin came to stay for a weekend and visit with me and I decided to show her the attic. We played up there as kids together and since I was moving she wanted to see it once more with me. Cont

Cont Part 2

We smelled a faint scent of roses all throughout the attic. It was like an old perfumy rose smell. Over in the corner we were looking through our grandmother's old trunk she got as a wedding gift in the early 40's. My cousin felt a loose board under her foot, and when we lifted it up we found an old bible and rosary. The rosary had oxidized greatly. The rose scent in the room, then left. I don't know why but it made me cry. I felt like we had found something that needed, or was asking to be acknowledged.

My last days in the house, the activity picked up with noises, walking, crying, etc. I bought sage and salt and did a ritual with both and never had anything happen again. I don't know, but it was very simple. The sage seemed to calm everything and the activity came to a standstill.

Sometimes, digging deep for the history of the house will help you find out what or why something happens. Maybe that spirit is reliving something it always did, which , walk into the room and shut the door. Maybe they had a penchant for keeping doors shut. I would investigate further.

Could be the house is off kilter due to settling.

However, I suggest you never watch "The Entity" or "Poltergeist" if you're going to spend a lot of time there alone.

eta: I've also seen older houses have doors shut when a stiff breeze blows up outside due to them not being very tight, also if you have central air it can happen when the system cycles on.

I agree, on not watching those movies. Not a good idea. I will not watch shows like that or paranormal shows when I know I will be alone. It just gets to the mind if you get spooked.

I did live in an apartment six years ago that truly had something horrible go on there. Sometimes, you just have to move away and give up too.

I will reply in absolute sincerity, putting myself out there for ridicule, but I don't care because I know these experiences well, and they are real. I don't care for them at all, but have experience with them. I happen to come from a family of 'sensitives' and there have been many many incidents with 'discarnates' over the years. I will come from that point of view, as that is what you're obviously suspecting yourself. In my experience unless it's a recently passed loved one (who often will linger for several days before truly 'passing' over), discarnates can be drawn or activated by intense emotion or upset. That's why teenagers so often have unusual experiences. Apparently some entities draw energy from emotion and turbulence and are drawn like a moth to a flame. Some of them don't know they are 'passed' , some do and have refused to move on or are afraid to. My daughter has been a particular magnet for this phenomenon, as she is very sensitive and emotional. When she is in a turbulent phase they not only will plague her but even the people she associates with (people's cars will stop running if she's in them, keys will disappear, electronics will not work, etc). All this prompted me to study the subject and I seemed to be put in the position several times of 'helping' some of them cross over. It's actually a very dense universe full of life/energies, and it's amazing we don't see more, aside from the orbs and these occasional experiences. Most people who are truly 'transitioned' to the other side, not earthbound, won't be bothering to do parlor tricks, unless they are getting your attention for a very purposeful reason, to reassure you etc. Discarnate entities are still stuck in the lower level emotions and attachments, whether grief over lost love, or fierce 'love' of some physical object or a place, or fear or anger. They can't read your mind as a true spiritual entity would be able to -- if you allowed it that is. If you want it /them out, you need to speak out loud and firmly. You can pray for them and ask your guides/angels to ask permission to their angels /guides to help them cross over if they want to. In any event be firm that there is nothing for them here, that they need to move on, even escort them out the door literally. Doing a cleansing ritual like smudging or chanting, sprinkling salt, and asking for divine assistance will help. Was able to get a couple particularly troublesome folks to go doing these things. As another poster said, if you know the story of the individual, or have intuition about it, you can use symbols and rituals they would relate to. Look up Mary Ann Winkowski's writings on this topic, she has helpful information for anyone who wants to understand this. And another thing, learning about this phenomena drives it home how important it is not to be too greedy, negative or vengeful, or overly attached in any way, because I can't think of much worse than being an earthbound entity, stuck in an endless loop.

when i read it, 2 things came to mind:

air pressure outside.
different dimensions leaking over on each other.
i mean, what if there's a version of you in the other dimension, that keeps closing the door and is wondering the same thing you are right now. if there are countless timelines, your timeline might possibly be extremely close right now to another one, with the exception of door closed/open preference, or, it might be extremely different but shares the choice of home in common.
there are so many possible explanations, it's rather hard to say

my 2 cents: put a door stop on the door, or install new hinges, get a dog and have is sleep in your room, or move.
I have moved for husband's jobs repeatedly. It is an adventure. I wouldn't even know I was haunted with teenagers, dogs, husband.... hang a cross up in your room. I think I have a door that does what you say, and I thought the hinges created tension causing this, it was after I put brand new hinges on the bathroom door that it started closing. I consider it a blessing I don't have to see dirty clothes on the floor in there and smell plugged toilet daily by the children.

you do, they use something in you to manipulate reality for you, you can disable it, im not sure exactly how mine did. It's a kinetic field and something to do with time. pretty amazing i thought, yet scary.

Interesting! I mean it could be just because the door usually closes on it's own? I have a door that just opens on it's own in this house. Due to it's hinges or.. something wrong with it! haha.

But on the idea of ghosts... My aunt lives in an extremely old house. The oldest part of the house dates back to the 12th century. That being said, it has housed many people and animals over the years! Most notably, monks. There is a priest hole in the house that has been covered up and is now used as a safe.

The point of me telling you this is because.. it seems that if whoever/whatever still occupies the house in spirit it does NOT like the doors being fully closed. I have witnessed the door being fully closed and then just opening on it's own for no reason. Other things have happened in that house, and it's absolutely fascinating. But i thought the door thing would interest you a bit

The house itself has a lovely feel to it. If there are spirits there, they mean no harm. I have never been scared, even if it is a big old, creaky house!

I had that happen to my bathroom door after my bathroom was remodeled, my husband swore I was shutting the door but I wasn't. We let it stay that way for a while. The door would swell sometimes( I think temperature) and not do it. My husband finally did something to it to fix it and it no longer does it.

I am not trying to ridicule you ( even though I will probably be for this) but as I get older, I wouldn't rule out ghosts as readily as I might have before. Because our brains work on energy( for example, our brains have been found to light up in certain areas) that, and a mixture of science states that energy cannot be destroyed, it can however be changed, Has had me form my own spiritually/scientific conclusion that perhaps the lights do not actually, ever fully go out. If you feel no malice, and you have exhausted all physical options, then you might be dealing with a friendly spirit, one such as your father.

Why it might be happening now? What comes to my mind are dates. You mentioned you Father passing. When? Was the date(s) your door closed meaningful in anyway? Anniversaries, birthdays, death, important dates?

Did you go to a cemetery or funeral home or any place an entity could basically attach itself to your aurora and now occupy your house?

I think the video camera is a great idea. I know it's work to set it up, but those of us who are similar to you and don't write much, would like to see the video if anything is caught on camera.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your response Bedlam,,

No, our house has been "off level" for many years. The doors that are effected by this are blocked by doorstops. My bedroom door has never had any leveling issues prior to this week.

This is completely new phenomenon and I am at a loss to explain why this happened now.

You could get a "spirit level" and measure the angle of the floor, door frame and door. Even a digital smartphone on might help to see if there are any tilts. Webcam / video camera is the next best thing. Are there any air-vents behind the door?

I used to have amber colored ooze come out of my door in Edinburgh. Something to do with the heat maxing the oil expand. Freaked me out.
