"Military and Intelligence Sponsored UFO Research: Was Science on the Agenda?"

Professor Michael Swords has been at it again and for folks interested in the U.S. Government's 'handling' of the UFO subject down the years then there's some really interesting reading at the links below taken from his talks at this year's annual meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration.

The subject in question being "MILITARY and INTELLIGENCE-SPONSORED UFO RESEARCH: Was Science on the Agenda?", the discussion really does contain a few gems and covers topics such as the behind the scenes goings on at the Pentagon, Project Sign, Project Grudge, Project Bluebook and the Robertson panel as well as the 1947/1952 UFO flaps and the Green fireball sightings over secret Atomic labs like Los Alamos and Oak Ridge.

Also mentioned is the U.S. Military's JANAP 146 regulation and the research conducted by NICAP, Dr Hynek, Dr Mcdonald and the Battelle Institute's study of official UFO case files -there's also government UFO documents concerning official studies and photographs of the Generals, Officers and scientists involved so it's nice to finally be able to put some names to faces.

* For those who haven't heard of Professor Swords before then he was also co-author of THIS recent publication which goes into more detail about the topics raised and does a great job of showing just how extremely seriously the UFO subject has been taken by the world's governments - he also conducted some remarkable research on this case which still remains completely unexplained.

Still cruising across the military intelligence handling of UFOs problem.... here is a thumbnail on where we are in mid-1952:

1). The Air Force, despite public comment to the contrary,was quite concerned about these violations of American airspace about which we apparently can't even detect in a timely manner let alone do anything about;

2). The Pentagon was now full of highly placed officers who were taking this issue very seriously; this included the Assistant Director of Intelligence, who had seen a UFO himself, and the spooky Stefan Possony, the psychological warfare expert with an office desk right in General Samford's own DI spaces;

3). Hypotheses for the nature of these objects in the reports were: a]. they don't exist; everyone is making mistake after mistake; b]. these things are ours, but someone isn't bothering to tell The Pentagon about them, despite being directly asked; c]. these things are Soviet very high-tech devices of a completely unsuspected development, the breakthroughs required being very difficult to conceive; d]. these things are Soviet, but of technical capabilities less than what some of the reports might envision; they are tricky but more conventional than we think, and are likely some vast Soviet psychological warfare scheme; e). these things are exactly what they are reported to be and therefore beyond the current capability of Earth technology.

4). In 1952, despite some Pentagon analysts wanting to believe "a", the two prominent guesses were "d" and "e";

And here we are still years down the line waiting on them openly discussing the very real phenomenon of UFOs.

How exactly does a government who have openly lied and tried to just forget about this stuff still have trust from the people? Boggles my mind sometimes, and not just that but they're illegally spying on us?

The term "for the people" doesn't apply here.

Nuclear powered aircraft. There's a thread on here with a highly respected man with credentials out the wazo saying exactly that! The Russians got the tech first, go old recruiting. Nazi's at the time had ufo shaped objects in the works. Then America gets it, some way or another and there you have it. This scenario covers sightings during the time frame but what about sightings before then?

Good job on bringing that up, another +1 from me. More and more documents make me exclude that UFOs are a coverup story of conventional technology and that it may be something not even from Earth.

Ofcourse science is on the agenda.
And not only theoretical science but actual recovery of advanced technology.
Why do you think they went to the moon and now mars? To get their hands on technology.

Same goes for the Kennedy assassination.

Stuff still locked away for National Security

If it doesn't affect people's day to day lives, it just isn't important to talk about. Even though if the truth came out about many things that have been labeled "conspiracies", the world would probably change so quick it would be a blur.

Maybe the Kecksburg bell was the US Government version?

Also what's up with these Rune, or Hieroglyph symbols,
said to be on the German Bell UFO and the Kecksburg PA
UFO?

..... why copy the Heiroglyphics?
Hieroglyphs show up in UFO lore a little too much to dismiss
right away IMO.....or, at least until Jim Oberg gets here.
Which ever comes first.

Maybe these symbols point to the recovery by the Germans of an ET Drone UFO?
Or even that it was built by channeling alien technology
through a psychic medium of sorts. You know," Goebbels' style" ?

I'll end with purely speculative drivel,
just like the rest of my post.

The CIA's use of UFO's as counterintelligence
against Russia for psyops purposes,
says to me (in a not so obvious way)
that, the USA too, felt genuine UFO's were scary,
much more powerful, and much more advanced
than anything they'd ever known.

It really is some high up intelligence mate and I'm sure the people involved really were fascinated by the phenomena -as Richard Thieme mentions in this interview about government documents, it's hard not to conclude 'the ETH was on the table' and Capt Ruppelt also stated that, as well as the U.S., the authorities were also receiving a large number of credible military reports from pilots involved in the Korean war:

"In June 1952 the Air Force was taking the UFO problem seriously. One of the reasons was that there were a lot of good UFO reports coming in from Korea. Fighter pilots reported seeing silver colored spheres or disks on several occasions, and radar in Japan, Okinawa, and in Korea had tracked unidentified targets."
