I came across these scribblings in an old & forgotten notebook earlier tonight & for some reason I felt compelled to share it. So here you are - a
rather dark yet ultimately hopeful poetic observation of the human condition by a young & troubled kid who used to think too much.
Well, I still think too much, but I'm 23 now and wrote this when I was 18 or 19 and just out of highschool. A lot
has changed in my life since
then, much of it for the better (and some of it beyond for the worst) - yet I still found this particular piece of writing hauntingly timeless. It
certainly makes you wonder... where does it end?
Anyway enough rambling for now. Think of it what you will
& thanks in advance for your time.
Greed has made us bitter, and our compassion's gone away;
All that remains in its stead is a hole too deep & dark to brave.
So we fill it with drugs and sex and violence instead of the light of life;
'Til the day we see it all meant nothing as we get old and cold and die!
He who kills or dies to enforce this doctrine is a sorry case indeed;
Another tragic sacrifice upon the altar of broken peace.
The body count grows larger, blind hatred spreads like disease;
It robs the youth of their right to a peaceful future.. as it has for centuries.
You call that freedom?! You want to call that peace?
I call it a cage made out of coins with a key just out of reach!
If you're born poor; you die poor, and you sacrifice your rights...
While our overseers live in excess with more beds than there are nights!
Last night I saw a young man asleep on the street inside a dark doorway,
Wasting away to nothing like the minutes of the day.
Surely another drugged-up dropped-out misfit forgotten & left to rot...
Until he's put to rest in a quiet grave beside the rich man's lot.
Ah, but such is life... or is it really so? I do not claim to know!
I'm more concerned with living here, and now, before I'm forced to go!
Truly; life's not so bad or sombre if you can rise above the storm;
It's a cold & lonely struggle - but the search will keep us warm.
One day this will be over, and humanity will be free;
This senseless soulless evil will be overcome by love & unity.
But until that fateful day, there can be no rest for me;
For one must be Awake to discarnate this Earth victorious & Free.
Know thyself, and thou knowest me!
The only way forward is through peace & unity!
Thanks for your time friend
Take it easy (or don't take it at all!)
PS. - I haven't a clue where the appropriate forum for this is so if I guessed wrong then my apologies
