so why don't we pull a 1776

I think the primary reason is we are schooled to rely on and believe in government's ability to care for us. We are no longer taught to be self reliant, or honorable in our actions.

That is exactly what we need to do, not just in America, but in all the developed western nations, and make it a cooperative, collaborative, international revolution of peaceful civil disobedience. That is the way to go, and absolutely no violence, no destruction of any kind, no burning down of buildings! When you succeed in your revolution you will need the buildings you might have destroyed.

Before you can even begin this, you have to inspire others to your cause, and even if they won't join you in the streets for your consistent and continual marches of protest, you can still gain their sympathy and empathy. It is important, so don't lose that inspired resonance, because you will if you use violence.

However, be under no illusion, you will suffer, you will hurt, and it won't happen overnight. You need to set firm and uncompromising goals that will inspire others. In effect, you need a mission statement that firstly inspires thought, discernment, and resolve. The goal will need to ignite the hearts and minds and set them to perseverance and fortitude, because the march is going to tread a very long and arduous road. You will be assailed in every direction, in groups and especially individually. There will be incarcerations, disappearances, even deaths. You will get your heads clattered and battered and your noses bloodied.

Your greatest weapon is to stop participating in and serving the system, and the more that stop doing so, the greater and more damaging the effect, not just to yourselves, but to the PTB. Strikes and marches, withdrawal of patronage to particular businesses, learn to count on each other for support, feed and clothe and bail each other out. When you march, make it loud and make it musical, and family friendly. If they apply curfews, ignore them, gather in your thousands and march loudly, musically, and deny the authorities the power they think they have over you. Withdraw your consent to be governed in this way.

Everyone of you is a leader, because everyone of you has a voice, and that voice has to speak to (as support for) the law enforcement agencies. You have to get into the conscience of every individual officer and show them that you support their role, but not the orders they follow in order to keep their job, or the false view of the country they perceive to be protecting. You have to show them that by their 'following of their orders' they are supporting the encroachment of tyranny in their country.

There will be spies and spying, betrayals and traitors, and people not as resolute as you. There will be agent provocateurs whom will be inserted to cause discord and disharmony, to make you think it is all a waste of time and futile, and however long it takes to win, it will take that long.

The revolution will be all this and more. If you are willing to accept this and take that path as one nation and one voice towards the one common goal...you will win.

Let me explain. The average American is apathetic....why? Because he/she has access to mind-numbing entertainment. We care more about Xbox versus Playstation than we do about Snowden. In fact, I submit that the new American dream is, for many people, simply a hunt for the next form of entertainment. Thus the obsession with Hollywood stars, pop culture, etc. These folks are so consumed with consumerism that they can't be bothered with national scandals and world events.....who cares if the NSA spies on folks as long as the latest version of Halo is about to be released?

Yeah I pretty much agree with what you say and the exact same statement can be applied to the UK.

The amount of people who live in self-chosen ignorance and apathy is disheartening to say the least.

Even trying to discuss issues of a social or global nature and you just get funny or blank looks as if you're talking about some incredibly complex, intellectual subject.

The average American celebrates the 4th of July, but has no idea what it is they celebrate.

I don't have any first hand stories from people I know regarding the reason for the American revolution.

Maybe because their memories died with them, and things get twisted over time, lies are spun in place of true history.

Nobody lives long enough to remember how bad things can be, or do anything about it anymore in these times, we're just too busy with other stuff.

Busybodies in their bumper-cars, .....

This is a great, original post! I often spend little moments thinking about "the herd". 300 Million cattle, distracted, fed, "busy" and idle simultaneously...Our heads are spinning from career aspirations, relationships, private fears / open fears fed by endless input both intentional and unintentional...Controlled chaos. Is it really possible that it is all a machine? Are we fed the distractions? Capitalism is the real "machine" behind the endless distractions. Don't take that as an anti-capitalist statement.

But, seriously, the origin of this post is "Why will continue to support a corrupt government" and the examples and comments abound clearly show that it's a hopeless situation...Right?

I present to you, two thoughts: 1. What human being is capable of letting themselves starve to death for sh!ts and giggles? 2. If we keep going this way, industry and jobs will be unavailable.

The first is a question to those that assume there is a group of a handful of people that control the world. If this was true, the fight to keep us all productive and well-oiled would be TOP PRIORITY for the elites. Like any business, no human being would willingly watch their food supply and power fall apart for no reason. "No reason", meaning nothing for them as they approach their 80s and deaths and nothing for their children. Nature is more powerful than a single human's will, since TIME is also in nature's tool bag of destruction. There is no human in an intelligent, thinking position, which is capable of watching us all fall. Anyone that can does so for a short period of time and eventually is replaced in line.

The other statement relates to the first indirectly - The distractions are in place, but the largest of them all is our careers and earning potentials. Hands down this is the biggest deterrent from a revolution. If the jobs disappear, there is no money for entertainment and it all falls apart...We start looking for a fight.

The "powers that be" are not interested in these things. I believe it is possible that the potential for them to be, is against nature.

All things are temporary - There is no real apocalypse waiting for us - Although, it's fun to think so once in a while.

True enough Muzzle.
A general strike could break the back of any regime if we acted together.
Therein lies the rub.

The problem i see with The US, is that it was established by a group of people and it didn't evolve naturally like most countries do. That group of people where from the elite classes and business world on the whole. I don't think that i need to expand further.

Yes, strike!
Charles Boycott!

Brilliant!

Just don't go anywhere for them to billy club ya for it.
No signs or any of that. It paints a bull's eye on one's self for them to more easily target practice.

Approach poor enemy brute force strategy with cunning counter-strategy of attrition.

Edit to add: I don't like the idea of organizing though. It seems counter-productive and a time sink. Instead I think merely educating people about history itself is suffice to compel them to make their own unique correct choices for themselves.

Now consider the US today. We KNOW our government is corrupt and rotten to the core. We KNOW our government manipulates us to keep those in power, in power. We know the average person is simply a pawn to the elite bankers and officials...so why don't we pull a 1776?

Three reasons: apathy, entertainment, and the Internet.

Those 3 do not even matter, and aren't even the real issue. It has nothing to do with apathy or entertainment or internet. It has to do with fear. Fear of dying, fear of our children dying, fear of going to prison. Fear is why we do not, and our government is holding all the cards. If you've ever been a parent then you know the need for your children to survive you, to continue on after you're gone, the need to feed their bellies when they're hungry and clothe them when they're cold and provide shelter from the elements. A another civil war would dramatically impact the ability to do those things. Our children wouldn't be able to receive the medical care they need, the food, medicines all the basic necessities you take advantage of today would disappear inside 2 weeks and then all hell would break loose. That is why we don't revolt.

The weapons our government has now, is a lot different than 150 years ago when people were still using muzzle loading muskets and canon balls.

Brilliant post!

But you may also realize that there was another thing in common with all these revolutions of the early industrial era: they were all co-opted and recycled by the upper caste of bourgeois capitalists. Then the industrial capitalists themselves became the same despotic aristocracy, who maintained their power by running the governments and through hereditary protection of assets.

More than a 100 years later, after the first revolutionary Internationals, came the first socialist revolutions, with the first World War. A new caste of "enlightened" elite then took over those popular uprisings and recycled them to their agenda... to fulfill the "Fabian" model of transitional socialism, as opposed to the revolutionary communism of the past, the one based on open social conflict and council-based organizing.

Now you can see that the major problem was the inside management of dissent, the political recyclers. Actually the America people have got all the power to kick the Wall Street gang and their minions out of the country... it would be tough, but possible. But if they follow mass manipulators of dissent, Left and Right, there's very good chances they WILL remain into slavery, probably for a very long, painful time...

No church was ever built on the ruins of other temples.

The Christian (or Masonic) religion in America was imposed as the new faith, over a land where pagan, atheistic faith have dominated for thousands of years before the European settlers came.

You may believe in the Gandhi fairy tale as you please, but the reality is that POLITICS ARE MADE WITH VIOLENCE. Laws are made to be enforced through violence and terror by cops and prisons, and construction of the American society is still being done through the destruction of the native wildlife and stolen native lands.

A world without authoritarian, violent regimes, is much desirable, but destruction is necessary for construction of another world and violence is necessary for its defense. The new world cannot be brought in with unicorns, kumbaia, and wishful thinking.

nah i think there are a few reasons:

1. we have learned to make changes in other ways than killing each other.
2. we don't want to end up like the arab spring countries. doesn't take much to extrapolate what would happen
here if we had an uprising.
3. we tend to like our neighbors and prefer not to see them sprawled out, dead on the street just because we may not see eye to eye on any particular topic

I agree with this. A lot of the people who get what is going on are higher consciousness or intellectual types who don't like to go to 'killing each other'. It is an imbalance since many of us are unwilling to do what the government is more than willing to do - murder and deceive.

Today I read a comment that is probably obvious to all of you, but hit me hard. It referred to "our terrorist government" and I thought that is really it in a nutshell. Our government really behaves like a terrorist - false flags, willing to murder children, fanatical destruction of truthtellers, cannot be reasoned with, lawless, no one to blame because they hit and run, etc. And what hit me like a ton of bricks is that is the reason they think all the regular citizens are terrorists - it's because THEY are terrorists. They are projecting who they are on us. And we don't accept that role. Even though we would be more than justified to respond it kind, we don't and we (for the most part) won't.

People would have to stop praising soldiers and police and act like they are bad guys instead of heroes. That's not going to happen. I bet you're cringing right now reading this. Ask yourself this though... who is going to inflict violence upon you at the governments request? Your hero bro! I'm not suggesting this is a good idea or anything but if you really wanted to know who you need to stop praising there it is. It's no simple task in front of you I sure as hell am not wanting to experiment. A jack boot to the face awaits you.

Echtelion:

Yeah, I suppose my way of thinking is not macho enough for you. It's too intellectual. Having read your post it is quite obvious that your contribution (as entitled to the opinion you have) is entirely filled with error. You cannot fight this issue with violence, but by all means, go ahead and put yourself on the line with other morons who think they are going to smash the opponent ranged against them.

You need to get your head around the first principle of what it is you are actually up against, and that is, an ideological war. The battlefield is abstract, and you are seeking to gather like-minded people to help inspire others to perceiving the issue the same way. Your fighting for abstract rewards, concepts such as the retaining of 'freedom', 'liberty', privacy, and individuality. Your standing up for how you are perceived by those that would seek to exploit you as a serf and as a slave for their sense of grandiosity.

Your thinking and possible actions from it would send everyone the way of the Dodo. You are not helping with your neanderthal mind, your hindering. If you line up with weaponry against them, they would tear you apart within hours and be back at base for breakfast. Meanwhile, you would have everyone tarred with the same brush as you, and you would undermine the support and cooperative endeavour we need to break the back and energy of the tyranny coming at us.

I don't believe in unicorns, fairy tales, or wishful thinking, I grew out of all three before I went to my first school. The singing of kumbaia has the wonderful effect of bonding people together, so don't knock it, it's more powerful than any gun you can hold. Gandhi perceived the merits of non-violence through its removal of making oneself a target by being violent. You fight these bastards by presenting something they cannot attack (even though they will) without showing themselves to be the aggressor and the bad guy. Again, this is publicity that brings others to your cause.

I would suggest you stay sitting on the sidelines, keeping quiet, and watch the real heroes do their thing. They don't need your kind of help.

Respectfully OP (this is my opinion), I think this is a bit too general of a statement.

I agree that a lot of people won't change.

But I'm also a firm believer that many will too.

Speaking from experience, here. I converted 100% from brainwashed and carefree to awake and paranoid.

I personally believe that America will divide, and when something drastic happens, its going to involve division.

Look how many race-based, gender-based, religion-based, nationalistic, liberal, conservative, and etc etc extremist groups exist.

There are too many different subcultures in the American culture (a huge chunk of that being awake activists) for all Americans to fall under one general category.

And there's never a reason anyone should give up when trying to open eyes.

Perhaps apathetic is the wrong word. I should have used..,,distracted.

As has been pointed out in this thread, it's not that folks don't care, but simply don't know what to do. In addition to the daily grind of job and taking care of family, most of us have so much going on in our lives that we either lack the time, means, or motivation to do anything else.

What's really funny is that I was able to see my own ego - an argument. Apathy is the right word. After thinking about it I couldn't have ever thought of a better word.

Trust me they do not care at all. The meaning of this post is that I am the opposite of apathetic - specifically the cause for giving attention to society in day to day terms meaning attention to those passing you by in the street as long as they are not in the New York mindset I mentioned being from point A to pint B.

I will show them what is right and wrong. What is true and false. What is real and fake.

Maybe the hippies had it right after all.
Complete apathy will bring peace because frankly when you're doing nothing you're not paying taxes and there's little chance of war breaking out.

The way I see it is this:

We are still alive right? Might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

If they really wanted to destroy and depopulate us how would they do it?
Oh yeah convince us all to do it to ourselves that way their hands are partially clean.

So actually by not revolting, the collapse event becomes unlikely.

I find things improving the longer we survive peacefully. People are getting really smart and figuring all sorts of amazing things out. The Internet is just awesome, but so is just thinking in your mind and reading things well educated people authored.

All of these things seem to make life better for everyone. Knowledge, learning, growing intellectually, morally, and spiritually.

Controversy is awesome. As long as people just stick to arguing that is, haha! The Internet keeps it impersonal so now we can really get to the meat of the deeper issues about virtually every topic known to mankind.

Libraries are free if you return the materials on time. Or you can hang out there and read *or use their Net*. There are some cool bookstores and coffee shops left that promote literacy as well.

These are our strengths, they are what makes existence better for anyone willing to put their minds to it.

Without a focus on education our society will be doomed.
There is no problem that cannot be solved. Even the corruption preventing our prosperity has remedy.

Thus the attrition strategy.

If the NSA can spy on everyone than obviously a few billion is a lot smaller than we imagined.
That means our lives, we aren't just little drops in the bucket. We are medium to large sized drops. Our ripples are bigger than we think.

That bucket will get pretty dry real quick if people stopped playing the rigged game.

How do we win a rigged game? Don't play.

All governments are corrupt. Do you think China, Russia, Germany, France, or any other countries are any less corrupt then the US government. In fact I would claim they are actually more corrupt, they just are not scrutinized as much as the US Government is.
