Well said girl. I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I see it everywhere I go and I see my friends and family living obliviously to what is happening all around us. Thanks for posting something worth replying to. This is my first post in a while here.

I also see our government attempting to demonize anyone who isn't oblivious to the BS to the point that the rest of the population see us as so. Just like how they are demonizing snowden who should be looked at as a man of high moral character who wanted his work to help bring forth change. Most people I talk to say the same old crap. "He's a traitor and should be killed", and I am not doing anything wrong so why do I care if they are keeping my information. Anyways thanks.

Why Americans continue to support a corrupt government.....

They don't. The Beast has developed a momentum of its own and is independent of its supposed master.

I can absolutely see why the powers that be, would consider using secretive surveillance tactics to identify potential threats.

dude the Americans are spreading it around themselves just by the way they act.

the only potential threats are to them and their system, and rightly so,
they don't care about anything else but maintaining their power through it.

I am speaking in generalities.

And I said that,
- some of the U.S.' enemies reside in our own backyard.

If you're talking about how the 'government' acts; abusing their power...
I understand that there may be a certain level corruption behind the scenes. But I don't consider the American government responsible for the spread of the anti-American ideology.

And of course that's where some of the 'threats' are,
- that's almost the point of what I'm saying.

But these threats aren't just designated to stop corruption, or to stop the U.S. government from 'abusing' its power. There are people out there who simply just want the U.S. to fail. They don't like the culture, they envy the people, and in recent years especially - stemming from countless New world Order conspiracy theories.

People follow trends, and if the trend is 'dismantling' the establishment... then so be it.

And yes, people can and will act maliciously - based on their imagination telling them to embrace an irrelevant 'for the cause' mentality.

People are so pre occupied with consuming and entertainment. I also feel like it's pretty hopeless to try and change things but maybe just for the enlightened bunch of us we shouldn't give up. I don't want to be lying on my death bed thinking about how I fed this corporate greed and never tried to do anything about it because it seemed impossible, I'd rather lie there and think well at least I tried even though nothing came of it. Perhaps even if our attitudes changed a little more we might actually achieve something. But we can't just go running off protesting and burning money without a plan as a previous poster said. We need leaders, smart leaders with a sense of decency. We also need an awesome plan, a really awesome plan so when people ask what are you trying to do we can show them well this is our eventual goal. But maybe people aren't at that level yet, how could we possibly stop everyone being so greedy. Give them something meaningful to do that makes them feel even better than an xbox? We need to change because our lifestyles cause other parts of the world to suffer.

You really do need to read up on your history!

Our kings and queens have had little to no power since 1649.

You sir were oppressed by the uk demcratcaly elected parliment.

Every post you make about england shows how ignorant about it.

Your just a bitter anglophobe. What happend a Brit ran off with your wife ?

Is The US a better place now, than if it had stayed under British rule and never gained independence?

That is the question you need to ask yourselves.

Of course it is!

England (Europe in general) is the birthplace of tyranny and corruption. That’s what our forefathers fought to get away from. For over 200 years we made our way just fine. It’s only the past several decades we’ve allowed our system to be corrupted. At least we know what freedom looks like...now we just have to get back to constitutional principles.

We need to take out the trash again and get back on track…

Or.... you are in part of the cycle every major global power going back to Ancient Rome and beyond has gone through. You are no more or less corrupt or tyrannical than any other that is around now or was in the past - to think otherwise is just arrogance. When you say the past several decades, I'm not sure how many you mean by that.

Well, the other reason why I won't be going all 1776 is because the ones who start that uprising are going to be UTTERLY crushed by the government and the brainless "entertainment" consuming zombies won't lift a finger to help.

So that is why I say the bad guys won - I am simply prepping for the time when these bad guys decide to pull the plug on this illusion.....and it is coming - looks like it is coming fast. All I can say is I won't be sitting there with a dumbfounded look on my face when a bank holiday comes. I will be getting out of dodge as fast as I can.

and the zombies, well - they can sit around and wait for the government to save them - boy are they in for a shock.

To be honest i think most of the masses are so complaisant they really dont care sadly, very scary. It seems its only the smart people that are left that are actually mad and want to do something.

Actually, if you stop and think about it, a lot of people on ATS are the ones that think they are under attack from one enemy or another, certainly in several threads that would be (non exhaustive list);
Muslims,
Jews,
Gays,
Mexicans, any other 'illegal' immigrant,
Socialists,
Communists,
Capitalists
Aliens,
Christians,
Atheists,
Anyone who is not American and wasn't born within spitting distance of where they live.

And I tried not to pull the 'race card' in there or go to the more extreme lists. You talk about the masses? Let those without bias cast the first stone.........

I believe the government knows this. Which is why we're frogs in a pot of slowly warming water.

Why cold blooded frog ?

It's a saying here in the US.

If you put a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will immediately jump out. But if you put the frog in cool water and slowly raise the temperature, the frog stays. Eventually it dies because the water gets to hot. The frog never noticed the lethal increase in temperature because it was done slowly.

During the "100 years war," peasants and soldiers at or below the rank of lieutenant on both sides. Were told that the reason the war was being fought was due to how each side made the sign of the cross on there bodies. By this I mean literally that each side favored a different shoulder, one should touch first (as in the "name of the father, son and holy spirit).

The thing is that on both sides they were told the same thing though each side supported a different shoulder to touch first. Implied with respect to the leaderships of both sides? They spent more time gambling as to the outcomes of battles than anything else and in reality the war was pretty much a farce.

Realistically speaking the United States of America as an entity is required to protect its own interest. Implied above of how interests when different from those of its own people are involved. Complicity with ones enemies
in relation to some interest outside the needs of there people is implied.

Such an interests in todays global market would imply that complicit is pretty much every leader in the world.

I mean a much as one would want to follow the media frenzy suggested in the idea that the US is in conflict with the interest of its own people?

Brings to question everything.....

Any thoughts?

as far as i can tell, everything is pointing to the same thing: revolt, please revolt. even the politicians are asking us to revolt. and what happens if we do? all you need to find that out is look at how many governments are involved in the war in syria. do you honestly think any person in their right mind, would willingly invite half the planet's military to come to our soil and blow up our neighborhoods? are you daft?

First of all thank you ATS, for providing a orifice for raw information on these boards here on one of the last real free information outlets.. The internet..

Now as far as your opinion on the state of the United states Federal Government in 2013, big differences back in the 1700's and now, for instance technology the United states Government, in no shape or form FEAR the people, at all, If the people all stopped what they were doing and rioted I assure you the Army will neutralize the threat, no doubt in my mind and the media would make it sound like the people that are rioting are terrorist etc. its a no win situation. In addition our economic system world wide is so delicate it just takes one little thing to completely break this system, that is why the Governments make the citizens so dependent on the system with entertainment propaganda etc. etc. driving to the grocery store to buy food instead of hunt for it sounds allot better then revolting to the people. The US Government has been broken or breaking since or after Nixon.. I just think revolting in the USA is obsolete, if you want to change something in United states politics you need to do something that has never been done before to make a change and get the result your looking for. That's my opinion I do not think the NSA, should be aloud to screen all my calls and everything I do, under the vise PROTECTION FROM TERRORISM, yet I do not think it is as severe as people are making it complaining, I also think there are portions of our Government that has a despotic supremacy over the other portions which creates the dichotomous news stories we are hearing.. That is what needs to be fixed once and for all, its against our constitutional laws and its a pitty almost half of our citizens have no idea what there rights are as a citizen.. Sadly Education is the key, people will not care until they fully understand what it is they have to lose, just ask the next east German, or Hungarian about freedom, and ah hell, bread lines...

Over and out..

I don't want to come off a bloodthirsty warmonger. I hate war and conflict.

I honestly don't know how to solve the problem. We (the people) elected Obama IMO because he presented himself as an agent for hope and change. I don't want to turn this into an anti-Obama thread, but the only change I've seen has been for the worse. As for hope...most of us are just hoping to keep a paycheck.

My point is, I doubt that it matters who we elect as President. The government has become a living entity, metaphorically speaking. It will defend itself, as all living things do. Hence the massive privacy violations and the like.

if we revolt, it will collapse too, so what's your point?
that we are screwed either way?

The people were dissatisfied with their government and wanted a change. In all three cases, revolt broke out...and two countries succeeded in overthrowing the government. The USA became a new country, the French got rid of the Monaarchy...and the Scots were slaughtered at Culloden

In all of those examples, it was rather easy to point out who the enemy was, and wasnt. Thus, it was rather easy to decide who you had to kill.

But to ask Americans to attack "the government" is a bit vague, considering how many tens of millions of people could be said to be part of "the government".
Does Ron Paul get murdered as well? What about the woman who works in the calligraphy department at the White House? What about your local park ranger, he's a "government" guy.

And people change jobs, which could not be said of being a Scot at Culloden or part of the Monarchy in France. You're asking people now to hit a moving target.

The women who is part of "the government" today loses her job the day before the riots start. Does she still count, or not? What bout the guy who unfortunatly gets a job in "government" the day before the riots start. Do we kill him too? What about the old pensioner next door who used to be a "government" guy for many decades?

Its like asking people to rise up against "the bankers". Its too vague, for exactly the same job changing reasons.

makes even less sense if you think about it in the context of the meaning of america to begin with. we were supposed to work jobs, have a military, have homes, have food, water, obey laws, etc. now all of the sudden its a bad thing to do or have any of those ? something very odd is afoot. even if we are generally dissatisfied with the current direction of our political system, that doesn't mean we get up one day and kill everybody. it's lunacy.

Syria has become a focal point in a conflict that has existed since the Cold war. Russia has only one military base outside its own country and that is n Syria.

The nightmare is that complicity exist and this war is more about Syria being a pawn in some senseless attempt, than anything else. The thing about US involvement in Syrian affairs. Is that there is actually no logical reason to consider, that after it is all over, the new Syrian government would default to a US ally.

That may sound horrible but as I understand it Russian soldiers operate missiles currently in Syria. They are prepared to fire upon aircraft supporting those who began the protest against the then government.

Myself I find it hard to believe that Presidents Obama and Putin are treating these matters as anything else but a crisis, that needs resolution.

Any thoughts?

I'll throw this in the ring although it is not a new thought.

What is your average American to do? Specially? They put down the game controller/remote/whatever and walk out the door to begin. What do the do?

Write their representative? They do not have a representative or more accurately that person does not represent them. Matter of fact, they do not have much of a government unless you count the parts which gathers and spends money you have no say in.

Protest? Who even cares. More people with signs, with their permit, on the edge of town.

Fight fire with fire, amass a gazillion dollars and wrestle the helm right again? Good idea but that is an elite club not fond of new members. How long does it take to save a gazillion dollars anyway?

Blow something up? Who gets hurt? Your average American. What are you supposed to blow up anyway? You are now just a lone not-job and your actions further erode the freedoms of others. Almost like that was of the plan or something. (BTW, don't blow something up)

Go to the press? We have seen how that works out with whistle blowers.

Revolution? The power players are still in place even if we replace the whole government. The Constitution is a good thing but it cannot create something immune from corruption. Asides from the makings of a good action-thriller, I am not sure how you go after the lever-pullers in the world.

So instead of saying Americans will continue to support a corrupt government, perhaps say until a good avenue comes along, they do not have much of a choice but to ride the bus.
