Please bear with me this is a new idea(or maybe not, for me it is). I'm starting to believe at sometime or another (vague I know) we as a collective entered a paradigm shift, or a shift in dimensions if you will. The shift I'm talking about goes like this, humans finally woke up and began helping one another. Even when one person in dispair, these days you'll see a group trying to aid that person. I'm not saying this is every single human being, but it is far more widespread than what I've seen previously. I'm not sure if this happened around 2001, but it was maybe a tiny leap then, and a bigger one now in 2013. (After y2k, after 2012, when the world didn't end). It's almost though people are too eager to lend a helping hand, it's almost suspicious and one even things twice about letting this other person help me, crazy I tell you.. but they aren't, usually. More and more people genuinely want to help.

Please don't bash me and say there are so many suffering people, anyone can start improving one person at a time. Day by day, through your own actions, you can make the world a better and more harmonious place, just help someone in need. When you are that person in need, someone may help you because they were also helped in some way. I guess sort've pass it on, enhance this shift we've been undergoing, that's speculative about the shift part but still, just help someone. Through helping someone, all that time meditating on love, while important, could directly be manifested by helping someone.

They are? I live in a small village so I can't really know.

If people started helping each other instead of attacking one another, then it's a great news!

I believe that with the increase in popularity of the internet, many people who were previously bogged down by lifes drudgery have found an easy source of information, and through that increase of information have learnt far more about life outside of their own workaday drudgery. This translates to looking outside the tv, msm and their local church for answers. With the widening of intellect in many cases there is a widening of empathy for those in worse situations.
Anyone who lived through the excesses and shallowness of the 80's will remember how uncaring and self centred many people were.
I think there has been a gradual increase of awareness of a change in our reality since that time and believe a shift in our consciousness is occurring at this very moment.
I think we are only part way through but time will tell, in the next 10 to 15 years where we will be at.
By the same token, many arent experiencing this shift in consciousness and are still living in the same selfish way as they were in 1985, I think those people are too far gone and are not ready for what is coming and may find themselves left behind.

When Jesus and Buddha spoke only a few could hear because there was no internet.

I know that people help each other now, and there might be better ways for this to be spread around today( you know) with the aide of the Internet and that, but people used the technology they had in the past to do what they could. One of my first memories of my father was him leaving on an airplane to go on a trip to bring food to another nation( i can't remember which one) but this place had people that were starving in the 1960's.my late father was a minister, and the way I see preachers now, it seems as if he was a rare breed. He was always helping people, and worked as a preacher at two churches because he made very little money at what he did, and needed to support us.

My mother would tell me how her own mother would cook huge amounts of food during the depression to help her neighbors out, she would tell them that she had accidentally made way too much food for her own family to eat, because a lot of them were so proud, but she knew the families needed her help.

So people helped people in the past, but without the communication speed of internet, it was just in smaller circles around them.

Correct, which is why more people are aware today. This is the information age, until the invention of printing by
Gutenberg very few people could read let alone get access to a book such as the bible. The fact these books are still in existence is due in no small way the strength of the church and the power it wields over peoples minds.
Call it the fear of God if you will. Now people have far greater diversity to new ideas and better still able to think for themselves which is why our spirituality has increased and why the powers of the church have waned.
Dont get me wrong, I am not against the teachings of the church just the heavy handed way its teachings have been spread over the journey. Think of how many diverse cultures have had Christianity thrust upon them.
How many cultures has Christianity destroyed and the way Islam is going and its belief systems how many cultures will be destroyed in the future.
I reiterate, the awakening of many people was through reading books in the 20th century, now a true awakening is upon us through the advent of the internet, of course there is still a great deal of negative garbage on the net.
Information denied for most for many years is now readily available you just have to search through layers of filth and nonsense to get at it.
I still think this is why there seems to be a worldwide awakening of many peoples spirituality, access to information.

You are right people have always helped each other, My dad always told me a story about his father giving a shoeless person the shoes he was wearing during the great depression. Luckily my Grandfather was a Bootmaker and had a shop full of shoes, but he still took them off his own feet.
It is just that now with the world getting smaller through technology more people are aware of new ideas or old ideas that they had no access to. On a global scale information is changing how we think on many levels and by seeing terrible events on the news, it has changed our thought processes, I think more people have become empathic to other peoples misery which is changing humanity on a broad scale for the better.
I have an 18 year old daughter who is far more tolerant to the differences of others than I was at her age some 30 years ago.
She has taught me much about my racism and homophobic tendencies which I am grateful for. Lets hope when these kids get control of the world they are better caretakers of it then we have been.

Hm.

I guess I kinda perceive that such altruist thought and behavior has always been around, but more so in some areas and cultures than others, at different times.

In my native land, America, the focus of value in our culture became very individualistic- the american dream was that any individual would have the possibility and power to develop the life they wanted, based solely on their own merit and choices.
This was a contrast to the way Europe had evolved, where having material wealth, for example, was more dependant upon who your parents were (the social class you were born into), than anything you did.

So in trying to create this dream, collectivism, community, group adhesion, was de-valued as something which was an obstacle to that individual power and freedom.

I kinda think the individualist dream came to a climax in the 1970's,and after began an "unraveling"..... punk rock and "no future" expressed it well. The problems of individualism at an extreme became clearer -narcissism, neglect of the young, elderly, weak or sick, individuals becoming multinational corporations which end up limiting the possibilities for all other individuals, and suddenly, the possibilities began to depend more upon who your parents were, and what social class you were born into! We reached a full circle.

My generation (X) we could see it, but had no hope for escape or change. All we could do was strive to survive and let the whole damned thing fall apart. We were the chaotic stage.

Our children however, with the help of internet, seem to have more hope, they've had creative visions of possible futures and possibilities.... "Avatar" is of their generation... they've interacted with people all over the world, they've gotten a sense of humanity we all have in common and how to network.

I think it is just a normal part of social evolution- the pendalum swings from side to another in time.

What I find interesting is that where I am now, (France) they have been on the other side- pulling out of socialist emphasis (which for non-Americans, is NOT Communist ) and more to individualism,
They tend to worry that the internet is a factor of people losing their social conscience and becoming isolated !

While we talk of people coming together with this tool, they speak of an evil drug that keeps people from spending time in the village square each evening socializing, and away from helping their neighbors in need.

I guess it is like any tool- all depends on how you use it. A hammer can be used to destroy things or to build them!

My 35 year old son sounds a lot like your daughter, he is always out trying to change the world. He was influenced highly by his grandfather, and they were very close. It is strange when I look at images of my father when he was young, and my older son they could be twins. The similarities are so alike, that if my father had passed before my son was born, I would say he was my father reincarnated.

Anyways he was the first to inform me of human trafficking in this country, and he was working with a group trying to change it, he also spent time on the street, a few years back, trying to gain the trust of homeless people so that he could help them. As a mother, I worry so much at the ways he goes about tackling the things that are so much bigger than he is.

Correct, which is why more people are aware today.

Awareness is what you are. But people think they are a person. Awareness is ever present seeing the present appearance.

Reading skills are not needed to awaken - however, after awakening there may be a need to find others who have - youtube is good and no reading skills are necessary.

Helping others from a space of overflow once you direct all energies to your center is part of reality, before that it is simply another distraction taking you away from your center.

The only way to truly impact the paradigm is to work on your own inner connectedness to the universal divine plan.

In other words, as you become enlightened, it is like a ripple from a stone thrown into the pond of life.

Namaste.

Some people just know, and when they know, they know they know. You have stated this knowledge beautifully.

I've been thinking about this and I must respectfully and sadly disagree with you as I observe the following: I notice that in times of crisis, strangers will help people out and rally to the cause, if it is a public or outdoor happening, such as during tornadoes, fires and floods, or perhaps helping to change a flat tire on a well-traveled road.

However in my corner of the world, I see people taking advantage of everyone else, such as someone charging the people next door for a lift to the store they were heading to themselves in the first place. In my building to my knowledge, I am the only one who does not do this, and I find this ratio pathetic.

The merchants who did not give a darn about their clients before still don't from what I can see. For example, when an elderly person requested a place to sit down for a moment because of sudden weakness, the merchant and staff did not help, and continue to not provide even a small stool. The people in my town are friendly enough to a passing stranger, but a newcomer to a group activity is not welcomed into the group.

I still see a great preoccupation with gossip and slander and I find it greatly increasing in both the media and in our Harper government.

Kindness can be found still here and there, but one has to look for it. Are there still rants on ATS about mean and cruel posters? I would certainly say so. So I guess what I am saying is that I do not see a general paradigm shift towards improved behaviours.
