The British spy agency GCHQ has access to the global network of communications, storing calls, Facebook posts and internet histories – and shares this data with the NSA, Edward Snowden has revealed to the Guardian in a new leak

"It's not just a US problem. The UK has a huge dog in this fight," Snowden told the Guardian. "They [GCHQ] are worse than the US."

Whoa. This is news? I've posted this on any biggish ECHELON thread for years. It's UKUSA. We share and swap data to bypass our respective privacy/search laws.

By treaty, UKUSA data can be acted on despite other laws to the contrary. So if we really "want to see that data", not that we didn't already, we can just ask the UK to toss it over the wall, and then by treaty law it's actionable, 4th amendment or no. All you need to cover your butt's a paper trail that the UK "provided the information".

I keep saying this on these threads but none of this stuff is news other than the name "PRISM", everyone knows that NSA and GCHQ shear information, its been in the public domain for years. What do people think the NSA and GCHQ actually do?

Sure it was unclassified BUT it was never advertised by the msm. Only people involved in telecommunications and computing had a clue to the shear magnitude of the spying problem. Why the hell would nato countries spy on each other baffles me, unless of course the real threat was always the people and not political systems.

I also know about aliens living and working in underground bases from alternative sites that specialise in such stuff. When do you think this will become mainstream? 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 years from now? Maybe never???

Just because something is classified or becomes declassified at a later date does not mean that something does not exist. I get pissed having to pass my speculation as opinions all the time because msm is lazy or controlled.

Most of the UK military and security is closly tied with the usa.

The UK may as well just become the 51st state!

This isn't anything new and has been around since after WW2. The Five Eyes share all kinds of stuff with each other and has been publically acknowledged for ages.

Not that the level it has gone too isn't disconcerting but this isn't anything new or breaking, unless you were completely unaware of this going on.

Actually, it's the other way around. GCHQ's TEMPORA is an even bigger operation than NSA's PRISM. I quote from the latest Guardian revelation:

"By 2010, two years after the project was first trialled, it was able to boast it had the "biggest internet access" of any member of the Five Eyes electronic eavesdropping alliance, comprising the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

UK officials could also claim GCHQ "produces larger amounts of metadata than NSA". (Metadata describes basic information on who has been contacting whom, without detailing the content.)"

Spying on enemies is different than spying on everyone. Why is everyone a defacto target then? You used to need a warrant for domestic surveillance but after patriot act the lines have been greatly blurred. In effect nato countries have been spying on each other to bypass local laws which is still unethical, immoral and unnecessary.

Its the fbi job to obtain warrant for surveillance if there is a suspected crime, not the uk or australia.

We tapped the oceanic fiber optic cables several years back.

In the beginnings of Echelon... The UK could not perform surveillance on the royal family or MP's so they outsourced to the US and Canada. This was all part of Echelon... Seems things do not change so much as they stay the same.
