JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A security guard shot and killed an Israeli man on Friday at one of Judaism's holiest sites in Jerusalem, the Western Wall, which was immediately shut to visitors, police said. The guard opened fire after the man, in an adjacent restroom, was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is greatest", police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. Rosenfeld said the guard opened fire with his pistol because he suspected the man was a Palestinian militant. "The fact he shouted Allahu Akbar, that seems to be why the security guard drew his weapon and fired a number of shots at him," he said.

Perhaps it's just me...but for an Israeli to be shouting one of the best known 'last words' of a martyr? I'm thinking suicide by cop on this one. He knew the reaction it would bring. He was an Israeli for crying out loud. He had to have known. Much of their past has seen those words from someone with a suicide vest which wouldn't necessarily be visible to anyone, so the best and only option is to shoot and kill as quickly as humanly possible ...just hoping it's quick enough and the next sensation isn't simply a blinding flash and nano second of blinding pain.

Yup.. I'll vote Suicide By Cop as a deliberate action until more is known...if ever, given the location.

More like;
Stub your toe, Allahu Akbar.
Cut your nieces head off, Allahu Akbar.
This kebab is cold, Allahu Akbar.

as I think hats are illegal under Sharia.

Wow every time i read a story similar to this or really in relation
to religious based killings i always play a little mental game,
imagine with me if you will, instead of religion this was say
football and the guy had yelled, i love the oh i dunno titans,
the next stall over is a guy who happens to be a bears fan,
well he opens up with his gun and that's where i go every
single time. its all a bunch of grown up playing pretend and
they murder people for their so called belief......

Man i never imagined that the pretend i played as a child would be this
real in adulthood, they cant even be sure their god exists
and yet its worth killing over.

To be honest if that were me

I'd have drawn my pistol immediately out of reflex to hearing those words being shouted. Conditioning I guess.

But I like to think I'd have assesed the situation better before pulling the trigger.

Just my two cents

That sounds like an abomination of desolation to me. Death of a man on a holy place: abomination. Clearing out the room: desolation.

Run to the mountains, locals of the place, that's a sign.

To the concrete bunkers in the mountains, aaaahhhhhhh!

Can you hear the soldiers marching?

I don't know man. Yelling Allahu Ackbar is a damn good way to get instant lead poisoning. If he hadn't yelled it I might think twice, but yelling it out would almost instantly prompt the "SOB has a bomb" reaction.

Wow! Talk about conditioning!
So, everyone now seems to think that uttering a line praising god is justification for murder? Should we also blow away anyone shouting "Praise the lord", which is in effect the same thing? Or is it only when a brown person says it that the conditioned reflex kicks in and the bullets fly?

He didn't utter it, he yelled it out at a crowded religious location. Sounds like he knew what reaction it would get.

ETA: if people commonly screamed "praise the lord" right before turning themselves into a weapon you bet your ass people would be a little jumpy when people started yelling it out randomly.

A designated Holy area, man there yells God is great, security guard shoots him dead.
So what would happen if he had shouted God damn?

Disgusting. Call me whatever name ya want, but I'm no longer supporting Israel anymore. I have had it with them.

Well it could have ended differently.

"Hundreds dead today at the West Wall Jerusalem. The last words heard shouted by a lone suicide bomber before the massive explosion "Allah Akbar"

Well that sounds racist to me. You're saying that only brown people say Allahu Akbar.

Hmm and also, when is the last time .. Any time.. you've heard someone say "Praise the lord." before blowing themselves up, or attacking innocent people, or when rioting?

Ahh but then, there is little logic when it comes to religion.

What exactly do you think would happen if I went to a Muslim holy place and started shouting things about another religion being greater than theirs? My head would suddenly become separated from my body for being an infidel. He wasn't screaming "God is great" he was at a Judio-Christian holy place screaming Allah is the greatest. Probably not the best idea considering his location.

No offence but it isn't rocket science.

The situation: Israel middle of summer
If he was wearing a heavy coat and holding something that could be seen as a trigger device....shoot
If he is wearing a T shirt and jeans and not holding any form of trigger or 'HOT' weapon...approach with caution
You can easily make that assesment in the time it takes to draw load and aim.

Like I said just my two cents

Just a case of "first impressions"

You want to walk around in a hoody and look sus. Then expect to be treated like a crim. People are not going to automatically assume you are a hip hop fan.

You want to dress like a pro, and wear red lipstick to signal you are in heat. Then don't expect drunk guys to be respectful.

You shout out Allahu Akbar in Israel ( and I would say most western countries ) then expect people are going to assume you are a terrorist. As opposed to just really high and happy on God.

Not saying any of the above is right. But we are animals, and we do judge on first impressions and then hopefully some kind of critical thinking process.

There is right, and then there is dead.

He was apparently inside a stall. And you don't need a heavy coat to hide a suicide belt you can wear them under jeans or a t-shirt. And what if he was on a remote trigger and the person holding the switch was waiting for him to go to the restroom and arm his belt before walking back into the crowd? Regardless he knew what reaction he would get, it's like throwing rocks at a wasps nest eventually you'll get stung. His location is what made his actions so suspect. Not the brightest phrase to yell out in a Holy place of another religion, especially in an area known for the dangers of suicide bombers who yell the same thing right before they turn themselves into a big mess along with everyone around them.
