n Islam taqiyya is a form of religious dissimulation, or a legal dispensation whereby a believing individual can deny his faith or commit otherwise illegal or blasphemous acts while they are at risk of significant persecution

By that, it is meant that if you were being tortured and forced to change Islam as your religion, you're allowed to lie. Back then, the Quraish tribe tortured the early Muslims and forced them to go back to Idol Worship.
