Good information. It proves that the 'up to 100 million dollars' figure is probably spot on.

What did Obama do for US citizens as he had promised before he became the president? Did he promise to withdraw money from national budget for his luxury indulgence? The end of Obama's Dynasty is not far.

Star and Flag! This excrement makes me want to vomit, no matter who is in the White house.

Did you want to vomit when Bush took more vacation days than .............. any other president 900 some odd days 30 some odd percent of his time in office. President Obama has take 70 - 80 days -- your avatar would be ashamed of your Hippocratic.

Even the article you are worried about says that this cost is not out of line.

It's more than 'considering'. It's on the schedule. So are the Germany and Ireland trips.
My question ... what is worth $100 million to us taxpayers for send the first family over there?

He could easily take an all-inclusive trip to Mexico for $449 for a week (flight included)... Now look, i just saved the US taxpayers a $100 million...

Funny, but very true.

If only they could see the bubble they live in.

He feels your pain, America. Really, he does.

This family acts like someone who's never had money and hit the lottery for a gazillion dollars.

Now what was that saying about fiddling while Rome burns..?

Africa vacation is only the half the plan...
All summer and fall at Martha's Vineyard...Google "extended stay Michele".
Sound's like they hate the heat?

Hey, he is going home for a change. It would be priceless if they flew him there and then dropped him like a bad date.
Wait till he gets in the limo and then inform him that his sequester cuts forced every part of the team back home with the plane and that the Carrier has ran out of fuel in port before it left!!!

This is what Obama deserves!!

The elaborate security provisions — which will cost the government tens of millions of dollars — are outlined in a confidential internal planning document obtained by The Washington Post.

So all the military expenditures including the manpower, air cover, ships offshore, bulletproof glass, housing, food, etc. are going to cost "tens of millions of dollars". I guess the hotel bills are going to be around $70 million dollars.

Why is everyone quoting the $100 million figure when the article itself states the "internal documents" they have show "tens of millions of dollars'?

but he cancelled the safari. doesn't that count for something?

Former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush also made trips to multiple African nations involving similarly laborious preparations. Bush went in 2003 and 2008, bringing his wife on both occasions. Bush’s two daughters went along on the first trip, which included a safari at a game preserve on the Botswana-South Africa border

At least it is more then his predecessor.

The FLOTUS and kiddos are going on the trip because it's a family vacation disguised as an official visit. Goodwill ambassadors or whatever. There is no way that Obama is going to reimburse the US Government 60-100 million to pay for this boondoggle, nor the family vacation to Germany and Ireland that are also this month.

THIS is a purely diplomatic mission to Africa; as the HuffPost says: to raise AIDS awareness.

Lovely.
Spending 60-100 million of our tax money just to supposedly raise 'AIDS awareness in Africa?
1 - My tax money is better spent HERE in the USA.
2 - Everyone already is aware of AIDS. It's been around for 40 years.
3 - It's a family vacation with a flimsy cover story.

You seem to only read part of the sources you provide.

The president is also expected to spend time re-affirming partnerships with the sub-Saharan powers and emphasizing the importance of global health programs, including HIV/AIDS prevention.

No it is NOT "purely" a diplomatic mission to raise AIDS awareness. Stop making things up. It is bad form.

Oh pahleeeze .... he's taking his family on an uber-expensive trip. Or should I say 'trips' ... He's also taking them to Germany and Ireland this month. There is NOTHING that the first family is doing in Africa that is worth 100 million $$ to the American people. Not a darn thing.

NOTHING is worth it....with things as they are now, all presidential vacations should be canceled...

if we can't take a tour of the white house, or see a blue angels show, then the the president and his family can't go on vacations....

seriously, there should be a special committee in place that answers to the american people, and is responsible for approving or denying any and all presidential vacations, or recreational activities, that would burden the taxpayer with their cost.

going to camp david, or one of the other existing presidential retreats is one thing, because they're already there for the president and his family to use...but if you wanna go to france, or africa, or throw a big-ass birthday party...well, you gotta ask the people for permission to spend their money on that...and if you're doing a s**tty job, and they're not fond of you...well, just expect to not be taking any special trips...

If you don't want your president to go abroad on official trips, petition the White House, it's as simple as that. The Africans certainly aren't grumbling, they are hoping it will be a follow on for American tourists to visit what should be the richest continent in the world...well it is but that's another story.
Your best hope is that all the personnel are mostly already paid government officials. Security, military and intelligence, and not the hanger-ons who lurk around the NSA, security, and the military..Ah, feck it, my head is starting to hurt when I see where all the cost is coming from.

I usually hate to use this abbreviation but...

LOL

Billions of dollars spent everyday on pointless wars and a gigantic war machine that kills innocents everyday. Another billion dollars sent to Israel every year so they can yet kill, more innocents.

But F it. We don't care about little brown people. We care more about the President taking a vacation more then our Tax payer money funding pointless wars.

This is nothing new though right? America has averaged a war every 20 years, this is all just part of the "plan".

Let's just shut the whole thing down - have a civilian judge and jury try these criminals and decide what kind of punishment they should have - civilians could all go to washington d.c. without any kind of protection.

obozo's foriegn policy ineptness isn't going to do any thing but cause more problems for us - over there, in europe, anywhere he goes.

Ground him until a jury decides.

As I understand it, the trip is official, if you don't want your president to do official trips, petition the White House.
Much of the cost is a paper exercise for budget purpose as far as those who are already employed anyway.
What you may need to question is if all the services are not in house, and if so, who or what are they?

And we have another Obama supporter

WOW ... 100 million isn't much? I guess that's why they closed down the White House tours and blasted it all over the airwaves as if it were the end of the world?

100 million keeps white house tours fully funded for 80 years.

This isn't about dollar value. It's about principal. If this were Bush we were talking about, this thread would have been created by the likes of you.

Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency. Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts, giving 24-hour coverage over the president’s airspace, so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.

once one strips away all the illusions everyone is brainwashed with once we enter this world, it is soon realized only a gangster of epic proportions travels with such extravagance.

what a joke!

this is only an act to keep intact the illusion that this man and his family are important. in reality, they are just as important as your or my or your neighbors family. just people. its the illusion that is of utmost importance. if they were truly that important, they would live in the WH generation after generation after generation. but no, the families change at least every 8 years (unless you're a bush/clinton/to be continued)

absolute joke! guess who the joke is on...

With that attitude no wonder America is 16 trillion in debt.....and yes, the way the US government is blowing cash, 100 million isn't all that much.

B-b-b-b-but Bush. *sigh*

Please stop using that argument. Yes Bush was a bad president but simply using the "Bush" excuse does not excuse Obama for doing the same thing.

--------------------------------------------

Obama going over to Africa isn't really going to do much. Talk a good game, see the sites, nice vacation. China on the other hand is building homes, hospitals and factories - now they have some skin in the game.
