our President is considering a lavish trip to Africa......
It's more than 'considering'. It's on the schedule. So are the Germany and Ireland trips.
My question ... what is worth $100 million to us taxpayers for send the first family over there?
He could easily take an all-inclusive trip to Mexico for $449 for a week (flight included)... Now look, i just saved the US taxpayers a $100 million...
The elaborate security provisions — which will cost the government tens of millions of dollars — are outlined in a confidential internal planning document obtained by The Washington Post.

but he cancelled the safari. doesn't that count for something?
Former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush also made trips to multiple African nations involving similarly laborious preparations. Bush went in 2003 and 2008, bringing his wife on both occasions. Bush’s two daughters went along on the first trip, which included a safari at a game preserve on the Botswana-South Africa border

..FLOTUS and KIDS and Personal expeditions...all re-imbursed to gov., except for Secret Service, cuz they can't tell Sec Service to stay home...their presense is mandatory.
The FLOTUS and kiddos are going on the trip because it's a family vacation disguised as an official visit. Goodwill ambassadors or whatever. There is no way that Obama is going to reimburse the US Government 60-100 million to pay for this boondoggle, nor the family vacation to Germany and Ireland that are also this month.

THIS is a purely diplomatic mission to Africa; as the HuffPost says: to raise AIDS awareness.
Lovely. Spending 60-100 million of our tax money just to supposedly raise 'AIDS awareness in Africa?
1 - My tax money is better spent HERE in the USA.
2 - Everyone already is aware of AIDS. It's been around for 40 years.
3 - It's a family vacation with a flimsy cover story.
The president is also expected to spend time re-affirming partnerships with the sub-Saharan powers and emphasizing the importance of global health programs, including HIV/AIDS prevention.

NOTHING is worth it....with things as they are now, all presidential vacations should be canceled...
if we can't take a tour of the white house, or see a blue angels show, then the the president and his family can't go on vacations....
seriously, there should be a special committee in place that answers to the american people, and is responsible for approving or denying any and all presidential vacations, or recreational activities, that would burden the taxpayer with their cost.
going to camp david, or one of the other existing presidential retreats is one thing, because they're already there for the president and his family to use...but if you wanna go to france, or africa, or throw a big-ass birthday party...well, you gotta ask the people for permission to spend their money on that...and if you're doing a s**tty job, and they're not fond of you...well, just expect to not be taking any special trips...

So? In today's economy $100 Million is not that much. Africa is a dangerous place so he needs a lot of security.
Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency. Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts, giving 24-hour coverage over the president’s airspace, so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.

Did you want to vomit when Bush took more vacation days than .............. any other president 900 some odd days 30 some odd percent of his time in office. President Obama has take 70 - 80 days -- your avatar would be ashamed of your Hippocratic.
Even the article you are worried about says that this cost is not out of line.
