Do dreams have meanings?

I just got up from a weird dream. Maybe it's the stuff I have been both reading and watching in causing this dream. Can someone help me decode what this dream means? I just felt this dream scared me a little.

The dream begins when I'm at a college lobby and then I head to the parking lot. As I walk around there is just a sea of people and in the parking lot as long as a runaway from an airport. In the parking lot I see two cute girls in a car relaxing and listing to music. We joke around as I flirt with this cute redhead with pixie haircut, a black bow in her hair, pale white skin and freckles. They were driving a brown vehicle.

After we said our good byes I walk down the street. It seems to be my neighborhood. But different. I walk down the street and notice a huge mutant cat. Maybe wild. But it looked like a giant mutant black cat. I had to walk by it to get home. I notice the redhead was selling girl scout cookies. I wouldn't no. As I observe her my legs start to give out and the cat jumps into the road. I walk slowly behind it. Hoping I will not become its next meal. Thankfully someone coming home drives the cat into their driveway and his pet dog scares him off.

But if I thought the giant mutant cat was bad, I was wrong. I manage without my legs working to get to the intersection. After passing a giant dirty dish with water in it. I can see people racing instead of driving as it dawns on me. This is a result of the capitalist lifestyle we live in. The people are driving like maniacs to and from work. And the for some reason disabled me can get no love from them. I force myself in a suicide move to cross the street. I keep thinking if this wasn't for consumerism and our capitalist society the country would be nicer. The cars would just zip by like crazy and I thankfully cross the other side. To my horror people are torturing animals and people alike. And I have this face of horror as I saw a future world of a communist revolution with me standing high and mighty in a large colorful red room. I then awoke soon afterward.

This was the dream as good I can remember it. I do not dream as much as I used do while I was younger. But I always have been able to feel everything that was going on in the dream. Which I never understood the reason why. Kind of like a virtual reality gone haywire. I know it is weird, but I want to understand what this all meant to me. I'm not a communist or a socialist at all. To be honest I only know so much about both. But I identify as a capitalist. Because I would love to become a successful businessman and help people through making the economy better. Anyway I do not know if dreams have meaning or they could be define. I just thought I would share this and ask for an explanation as to what this all meant.

Just a little context, if you will forgive me asking:

Are you male or female like your avatar? If female, are you queer in waking life (flirt with girls) or was it only in the dream? Did you go to school, and if so, what did you study?

Don't let the avatar fool you. I'm 100% a man. No, I don't work or go to school. I'm currently ill with a bad cold and abscess. Yes, it's nasty and has cause me to lost the ability to walk correctly and at long times. Thankfully I'm healing.

Thanks, I just wanted to get an idea where you were coming from.

To me, I think your tapped in to the fact that something is very, very wrong with the modern world. I have had similar dreams, involving colleges. There's something in the collective unconscious... In my dream, I (male) was hitting on a girl, this hippy chick, but she was trying to bury herself in the ground, trying hide under plants from this technological horror. But I had this crystal I designed, which would glow different colors with different tones of sounds: It was a nano-material that converted the energy in sound into light. I thought the hippies would think it was cool, but it was also somehow toxic. Part of this toxic nightmare that lovers of nature were trying to bury themselves in the ground to escape, and I knew in my heart they were right, we were poisoning the world.

Then the judgement, the singularity.

The end reminds me of the name of a Chinese work: Dream of the Red Chamber
en.wikipedia.org...

That sounds really far out. I always liked nature and caring for the Earth. But the way how science could save the earth more than identifying as an hippie. I don't know if you're an American, but I hate consumerism. People are like locust and I just dislike it. Because it feels like we don't care anymore. All we seem to care about is buying junk and making the meaning of currency to be a joke. I always say people are yahoos. Including myself.

Yeah, I'm really science positive too, but in my dream science wasn't the poison in itself... it was how we were using it...as a substitute for life. The girl I was hitting on would have liked a flower, but I HAD to bring her nano-tech. Like we're trying to fill a void in our souls with the wrong stuff. I think that's what it is with consumerism too... We are doing all this because we aren't really getting what we're wanting. We want love so we buy a car, things like that.

Here's another question: Do you consider yourself atruistic? Like the kind of person who cares more about the collective or others, and has a hard time doing things just for your own benefit?
edit on 13-6-2013 by tridentblue because: (no reason given)

Yes, I agree with you about that. I wish we can change everything with the snap of our fingers. But we have to use elbow grease to make it work. Just make sure it's good for the environment.

I would say I care more for myself. Because I grew up seeing people with problems and who were rude to me. Basically I saw the ugly side of humanity rear itself more than one occasion. That doesn't mean I don't like people or want to lead them to a better future. It's just I want to find the perfect way to make the world a better place. I have seen way too many people with problems like drugs, alcohol, etc. That caused them to have sad lives. I would do anything to escape that fate.

I think dreams speak to your basic state of mind, sometimes they're a communication from your smarter self to your conscious self. I solve a lot of technical issues in dreams.

But mostly I see them as a way of your smarter self passing hints up to you. I get a lot of job anxiety dreams that I see as a hint to just chill out over work. Part of the time I get dreams that are hints that things I fear are deflecting me from what I need to do, or that I'm possibly screwing up in my family life. Or that I'm afraid that I am. It's usually emotional data that I tend to ignore, although some times it's very cagey technical stuff.

So yes, in a way I think dreams have meaning, but mostly it's communication between parts of you that don't do that very well.

So what do you think the perfect way to make the world a better place is? Any thoughts?

The best I can come up with is that people treat themselves and others with respect; organize the world better, simplify life, etc. This is all I could think of currently.

Thanks for all that you've shared.

Dreams are POWERFUL stuff. They are about more than the sub-conscious. Once I was trying to be psychic with my girlfriend, we did some random tests with each other. As we went to sleep, I tried to send the idea of a blue donut to her mind, hoping she'd say something. She didn't. But the next morning she woke up, saying she didn't sleep well because a little kid in her dreams was trying to give her this blue donut!

Your dream does speak directly to me, but it references a bunch of really direct historical information most people wouldn't know about, so I'm not going to say what it means to me, because it probably is suppose to mean something different to you. But I do hope you will keep posting your dreams.

Peace!

I think I understand where you're coming from with your comment. I can see that it means I absorb emotions and in my dreams they became some weird virtual reality. Hopefully that is what you're talking about.

You'll never see this reply, because of the way ATS is, but oh well.

Yeah, I think that's exactly it. I think waking conscious mind discards a lot of data in order to run fast, in order to come up with real time responses to things in our environment. But its when we sleep and dream, that the mind is able to put the real time stuff aside, and get to work on things that take time. So in many ways, its where our real genius lies. I think it chooses what it will have the waking mind remember too. When you get a dream like this, its that deeper mind communicating through art to the waking mind. In his case, he seems to be picking up on the realizations that our current system is unsustainable.
