British civilian killed in Iraq.

A BRITISH civilian was killed near Basra in southern Iraq, the defence ministry in London said today.

"We can confirm that it happened today and that the next of kin have been informed and that we are providing consular assistance," the ministry said.

"We don't have further details for you. I am not able to confirm any further details. (This happened) in Basra area."
